Steelers | Roethlisberger dealing with high fever

Mon, 18 Sep 2006 16:30:34 -0700

ESPN reports Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (appendix) had a 104-degree fever Monday, Sept. 18.

I assume that would take him out of the game -- but haven't heard anymore details.

I'm in a spot where he had to start -- I have Batch in case, but any more info would help. And hopefully this post might save someone else a start (although unless you have Lefty/Batch I guess it's too late).

Blegh. :P

Anyone else notice how well guys play when they have the flu/sever colds?

I've actually recorded instances where guys have gone off in between vomiting on the sidelines. Faulk, McAllister, Horn.....(guys on my team in the appropriate year).

I've ALWAYS played better when sick. My theory is that you have less energy as you might have when fully healthy, so you have to be more focused. Less wasted energy.

I swear if it's not the toe's, it's the knee, or the apendix, or the thumb for the thousandith time, Ben always has some hang nail, what a wimp

Noted football genius Joe Theismann just said that Big Ben may OR may not finish the game tonight. FYI

Doesn't a 104 degree fever require hospitalization? I can't see him playing with a fever that high, so I have to assume it's an exaggeration, or it reached 104 degrees very briefly before dipping back below 102 (which I've been told is the level that can lead to fatality in adults).

This can not be an accurate report. 104 degree fever for an adult is dehabilitating. He would not be standing, never mind throwing the ball around pregame.

I don't know where this came from, but especially 10 days after an appendctomy (sp), there is NO WAY a doctor would let him on the field if this were true.

I should have started with a disclaimert that KFFL has seemed to be a bit shaky of late.Sounds liek whatever he was dealing with, he's past tho.

This actually came from the ESPN pregame show. The lady announcer reported it. Forgot her name.

There you go then. But it appears he's starting. Of course, whether he stays in or not....

I'm not saying they didn't report it. I believe you guys. I am just saying that I don't believe the accuracy of the report. Perhaps his fever is embellished a little bit or perhaps it is a misdirection, but 104? I am just not buying it.ETA: if it were true, they this would be the ONLY thing that everyone is talking about.
