'big money' leagues (1 Viewer)

Footballguy
so, basically every thread on this board I've noticed somebody manages to work in how they're doing in their 'big money' league, or what they're doing in their 'big money' league.

it could be a thread about what some guy had for lunch and it wouldn't take more than 1 or 2 replies.

anyway, I was wondering what constitutes 'big money'.

this thread is all about big money leagues, so post away!

mine is $200 entry, $2 per transaction in 12 team league. Season point total winner gets 10%, SB winner gets 70% and second place gets 20%. The pot ends up being about $2800. I guess when someone says big money they usually mean they're most expensive league to buy into.

$150 buy in. $10 per trade. $10 per free agent pickup. $5 per loss. That's big money to me.
how many guys and is that 10 bucks per transaction, or per guy on the trades?how many in the playoffs and who wins the bulk of the money?

This does not bold well as this should be a pole. I'm a little fish (surely you could tell from my 5 digit member #), my big money league is $110 to get with 12 guys. Payout is $500, $300, $150, and $75. No transaction fees but you can only blind bid with a fictional $50 for waivers every 3 weeks. Injuries suck hard in this league.

My 3 biggest leagues are:

WCOFF Main Event - $1750

NFFC Main Event - $1300

WCOFF 10K League - $2000+ Real Money Bidding for Draft Spots (between $1 and $7000 spent for 1st 2 picks this year - we spent $100 total for Bush and Benson) + Real Money Free Agent Dollars (up to $1000)

All teams are 50/50 splits with friends/partners and it is really fun to draft at these events, especially the WCOFF Main Event in Vegas - unlike any other draft.

I'm in some of the same leagues with Leroy. Well, just the first one and then four other Sat leagues. By the way, Leroy knows his stuff and is a stud.

$250 buy in and $10 a waiver or trade. 12 team redraft. Main money is side bets. Most us have 7 - 10 side bets per week head-to-head - either $10, $20, or $30. Weekly high point winner gets $100 and 2nd gets $40. Regular season winner gets $250 and the rest of the pot is split 50/25/15/10 for playoffs. Waiver pot usually adds between $750-$800 to the overall pot. Nothing huge - but with a good season can net over $2000 total. Not huge but can buy a nice flat screen with it.

Hopefully you get invited over once in a while to watch it. :football:

I'm in the that same first league as Leroy and Radballs and was in the third league last year. That third league is the biggest money league I've ever seen. One guy's team this year might end up cosing him $7-8,000.

$15,000/each for the year end pot... most are a chief officer of a publicly traded company, VC/priv equity fund (one from LBO shoppe). Draft on a different continent each year as the owners are now spread out over the years (although Europe the last 2 years happened due to schedules). Side bets abound. Money weeks... everyone throws in a grand ... best score grabs the weekly pot. And get this.......... pick ups are $5. Goes through the Super Bowl.... final 4 teams expected to attend, although weddings/etc...excepted.... someone expected to pick up in the procurement of a suite amongst the final group at the Super Bowl (odd coincidence it tends to be the same ppl year-over-year) ... rest of the league invited to join in. Best bet seen.... who will score more (last year) Desmond Clark or Daniel Graham for $5K.

$15 for pizza at the draft is as outlandish as I get ... an eight grand layout to me sounds plain nuts. I suppose it cuts down on the excessive drinking during the draft though, no?

Its all relative though isn't it. I'm sure everyone can afford to lose the amount of the money they spend on their team, be it $20, $200 or $2000. Conversely, there's less excitement if the winnings are chump change to you. Would you want to play in a $2 league?

Now THATs some big  !

12 man league. $10 per transaction off the wire. $10 per total trade (both teams pay $10). 6 teams make the playoffs. The bowl winner wins 50% of the pot.

I know some people who are struggling to make their student loan payment but still drop big $ on fantasy football, so that's not always the case. But that is the exception, clearly. Most people who play in big money leagues do so because they enjoy it, the money invests them in the outcome, and it doesn't affect them advesely. But people get invested in different ways. I don't need to lay out money to be invested, but finances are part of it for me. I'm a professional statistician and data miner. The people in my league know that, so in a way my professional reputation to make good data decisions is what keeps me invested in the outcomes.

my modest income limits my ability to responsibly spend money on something that has such a high "luck" factor...there certainly is some skill involved, but you are essentially betting on horses here

why do I do it??? It's FUN!!!!

I spend about $250 a year on football :

a $50 league

2 $35 leagues

1 $25 league

$3 a week on pick 'em

$20 for a death pool

$25 for a FBG subscription

and usually some playoff and super bowl pools

under $300 for sure...enough for me to have fun but not too much to make me sick to my stomach if it all goes away

as a percentage of my income....I may actually have more invested than some of the "high rollers" who have posted their investment dollars

We don't use money but bet small animals, mostly exotic pets, an occasional body part like a pinky, and orphaned or street urchin children. No one wants to win.

$15,000 to get in vs. $5 for pick ups. That's awesome!

I'm in one where you have to own your own country to participate. Everyone wages 1 million acres of land (~$10MM)

However, FAs are free if you are willing to go in front of a firing squad at 300 yards.

I can't even discuss trade ramifications publically.

OK, that was a joke. ) I'm in the NFFC Main Event for $1300, and the NFFC Draft Champions league at $650.

$300 buy in with $5 per transaction trade/waiver pickups. The overall champ usually walks away with ~ $1000. It's a comfortable but competitive league.

Total score league. $1000.00 buy in. 10 teams.

NFFC Main Event - $1300

NFFC Auction - $650

3 Local leagues - $120 each

2 Sportsline - $99 each

Doing pretty well in all of them... priceless.

Thank you FBG :)

That's exactly it. No different than going to a casino, you gamble with what you are comfortable losing. To some, it's no big deal to drop $5000 in an hour playing blackjack. To others $100 for the whole night of entertainment is all they're willing to spend. My "money" league is only a $75 buy in but with all of our crazy roster move rules and fees it usually costs each team between $150 and $200 for the season. Winner gets half the pot, 4th gets their entry fee back and 2nd and 3rd divide the rest 65/35 (12 team league). Most of the guys in this league go way back so it's really just gambling among friends.By contrast, my brother in law is in a league that had a $1000 buy in and all moves are $100  I think his league is a 10 teamer. The guys in that league are all hard core gamblers (one of them bet $5000 on the coin toss in the superbowl last year)

amazing. i assume no deadbeats though at that price.and i thought that $300 (league 1) and $250 (league 2) were steep.incidently, all add/drops are free in both leagues as they are built-in to the entry fee.-biz-

My $25 dollar league is all personal friends. The bragging rights are more valuable to me than winning a couple grand could ever be.

The biggest I have been involved in is a $5,000 12 team league with Company Executives. I was not an owner but helped my CIO win the league.

He gave me $10 G's cash for my consultation as a tip..... easiest money I ever made.

I drafted his team, ran his team , with no risk involved (except maybe my job) against some pretty bad players... candy from a baby..!!!

Unfortunalty , due to company changes the league only lasted that one season.

My biggest money league is $150 buy in. $5 per unlimited transactions. $40 to weekly high points.

Rest split at end 60-30-10.

Mine is $100 entry. I'd consider this the minimum to keep it interesting. I'd like to step up to a $500 entry league next year, I'd consider that big money.

Just to show how relative money is. Back in the late 80s the day the dow dropped $500 in a day, I was on the train with a bunch of stock and commodity traders. I was pissed because I had just lost $2k. They were pissed because they had personally lost millions that day. Actually made me feel better the rest of the trip home.

LOL this sounds like complete BS.

I was just wondering if he meant they alternate continents, or if they rotate through them until they end up in antarctica.

I'm not buying it either. He does, however, have a fantastic avatar. Who is that?

Based on what was written above I'm sure the answer will be his wife or his girlfriend...Biggest money I play for is $100 entry fee, been that amount for years, for the past 12 years we have gone to Vegas on opening weekend too draft and get together. Bigger prize is too get your name on the traveling trophy and bragging rights for the year. League has been going since 1982 with newest owner coming in 19 years ago. Too me that's the reason I play fantasy ball, those friends will last forever and we'll probably be drafting still another 25 years from now if we all live that long.
