Big plays called back due to penalties? (1 Viewer)

comfortably numb

I like to know of any big plays that were called back due to penalties.

Things like that never get mentioned on that stat sheets, but it shows some players could have busted some big ones, and had a big game if not for a holding penalty on the otherside of the field.

According to NFL Gamecast, Braylon Edwards had like a 70+ yard TD catch nullified by a holding penalty early in the game.

How about the "pass interference" call on the Giants last night that pretty much ended the game?
Please eloborate.Who?Where?When?
Eli Manning completed a pass for a first down, late in the game, that was nullified by an offensive PI call. Looking at the replay...if this was pass interference, then I'm going to have to quit watching football, because apparently, you're not allowed to look at the people funny without getting a penalty.

Not the biggest play of the game by any stretch, but RB Kevin Jones had an 18 yard run off right tackle called back because WR Roy Williams had ants in his pants on the complete opposite side of the field (illegal motion). It was the longest run of the game from Jones and would have made his stats look more respectable.

Now this I agree with. Normally PI is called against a receiver when they push off with their hands and the arms are extended. In this case the receiver and defender's elbows brushed each other. It was a bad call.

I didn't see it but I believe Antonio Bryant had a 50+ yard TD called back due to a holding penalty.
Yep, and it really pissed me off too.Blitzing LB basically pancaked a guard, and as the guard fell backwards he sort of pulled the LB down with him. I don't think the LB would've made to Smith before he let the ball go, though. The pass interference on Carter at the end of the game last night was an utter joke.

Good, Keep em comingThis is what I am looking for. Not the biggest play, but a play that would have occured had it not been for a meaningless act that would not have effected the play.

3-2-TEN2 (14:29)

C.Pennington pass short right to J.Cotchery for 2 yards, TOUCHDOWN NULLIFIED by Penalty. PENALTY on NYJ-D.Ferguson, Offensive Holding, 10 yards, enforced at TEN 2 - No Play.

Whitner would have had an INT return for a TD if Clements didn't block a player in the back (needlessly from what I understand). That would have been 2 TDs on the day for the Buffalo defense.

Edge had a 15yd carry to the goal line that may have been a TD (or at least 1st and goal from the 1inch line), called back for holding.

I was listening to the game on sirius radio, so heard it but didn't see it.

Derrick Johnson had a sweet 5-yard tackle for loss negated by a 12th defender not getting off the field quite in time. In other words, he was Manning'd.

Oh, you mean offense...

Cleveland game

browns around mid field on 4th and 1, went for it and Jurevicious caught a 23 yard pass for a first down

Holding penalty

browns then punted on 4th and 11

74 yard TD from Frye to Edwards on the first play from scrimmage called back for holding
If the holding did not occur, do you think the play would have gone as it did?
No. It would've been a sack. Frye was easily contained by the Saints D-line for the majority of the first half. The rest of that series went: stuffed run

sack

sack

punt

It should've been

sack

sack

sack

punt
Pygmy is correct -- Saints DE Will Smith was getting ready to level Frye, but was held. Also, corner Mike McKenzie fell down in coverage, so it was a busted play all around.

1st play of the game! He was WIDE OPEN. Wasn't a great play or catch really.
Good info, Edwards ended up with 2/23Could have been alot more.
He also had a pass bounce right off his hands that was picked off with under 2 minutes left in the game. He would've gotten 10+ yards easy on that had he caught it. If you're an Edwards owner (and yes I am one) it was frustrating to see how close he was to having a real productive game. Instead he was pretty putrid from a fantasy perspective. Sorry for the hijack.

He seemed to have a lot of passes bounce off his hands. I'd consider this bad news rather than good news, ala D-Jax from the last few years.

Wow, so he would have had 2 TDs. Pennington seemed to look his way alot -- is this guy for real or once the Jets offense settles down will he vanish for the most part.

Jake Delhomme threw an INT that was nullified because of a bogus hands to the face penalty on John Abraham. Panthers looked BAD yesterday.

Packers/Bears

Ferguson tripped at the goal line on about a 45-yard pass in the second quarter No call.

Surely the Packers would have scored something and cost the Bears D a shutout (and the accompanying point)...at least I think they would have scored...

You know Joe does something similar in his "Random Hits" weekly recap, right?

ETA: Sometimes it's better to just not know…

Just a complete breakdown in the Saints coverage. The Browns probably win that game if the play doesn't get nullified.
