Big Ten Basketball 2022/2023 - Return to Power (1 Viewer)

Holy Christ the NCAA and it's family is a dickmitten. 9 game suspensions for Perea & Jurkin, basically because their AAU coach's ex-wife made donations to IU 20-25 years ago. A total of $185 over 7 years, so now he's considered a "booster", apparently for life.

So any of you who ever bought a bumper sticker for your favorite school, don't go NEAR any prospective recruits, EVER, apparently.

ETA My link
I agree completely. What really gets me is that the coach was also Perea's legal guardian after he moved to the US. That is like saying anyone who has bought $25 dollars worth of college merchandise has voided their kid's (born or unborn) eligibility for an athletic scholarship at that school, forever. These kids were not even born yet when the controversial bumper stickers were being sold. Great work NCAA.
Guess they should have just gotten cozy with an agent like WWW instead. That seems to be A-OK.
Exactly, Indiana gets beat up for text messages and and bumper stickers; while thousands of dollars and assistant coaching positions are being doled out on a regular basis under the NCAA's watch.

I'm sure it just seems like it - but MSU always loses these early season big games.

It doesn't just seem like it. I'm pretty sure Izzo is like 0-58 in them.ETA: I shouldn't say that because the Mateen Cleaves teams always won them. But it's been a while I think.

State played extremely lazy. I like what I saw from freshmen Harris and Valentine. They should be good contributors all season. Pretty rusty first time out, but they always start out slow it seems.

Indiana just added a top 10 recruit, Noah Vonleh, to their 2013 class. 2012 and 2013, back to back top 5 recruiting classes.

Pick it up right back off where we started last year with the Big Ten/ACC Challenge predictions...Iowa at Virginia Tech - Virginia TechMinnesota at Florida State - MinnesotaNC State at Michigan - MichiganNebraska at Wake Forest - Wake ForestMaryland at Northwestern - MarylandNorth Carolina at Indiana - IndianaVirginia at Wisconsin - WisconsinPurdue at Clemson - PurdueMichigan State at Miami - Michigan StateGeorgia Tech at Illinois - Georgia TechBoston College at Penn State - Penn StateOhio State at Duke - DukeBig Ten wins, again.7-5
Your underestimating Iowa here. They will be very good this year. I think Iowa beats Virginia Tech.

Geebus.... look at the teams in these 3 match-ups. #1, #4, #5, #6, #8, and #11 according the current AP poll. :boxing:

I'm looking for MSU to bounce back big tonight.

They are hanging in there with what looks to be another very strong Kansas team. I've always admired how tough of an early season schedule Izzo sets up for his team.

Big win for the Spartans tonight. Gary Harris looks for real. Appling come through in the clutch. Looked night and day better than the UConn game (although still need to reduce the turnovers).

Like what I saw tonight.

Absolutely. Appling was huge in the final minutes. Great win for the MSU and the BigTen.

Don't forget tomorrow starts the early signing period.

Indiana's 2013 signing class is over-signed by 3 right now. Obviously, Zeller is gone after this year, but something else has to give; might find out tomorrow.

Good to see Appling take over like that. He's been a little tentative the past two years, but now it's his team and he knows it.Really like both Harris and Valentine. Very intelligent players, especially for freshmen.

when has that ever stopped Tommy Spray Tan? Sign em all.. someone will magically come up ineligible next summer and some senior will decide that indiana's just not the right fit any more despite tweeting only weeks earlier about how excited he is for the upcoming season. no worries.

So, um... Hi?
So what's the MD basketball outlook in a post-Gary Williams world? They were ok last year, right? How are they this year?
Things look good, IMO. The freshmen class is strong this year, and next year's class looks really good as well. This year's team is probably borderline top 25-ish, with next year's team even better unless they have some unexpected defections to the NBA. Two seniors this year, neither of which is irreplaceable, although the center Alex Len might bolt this year. You guys remember Smotrycz, I'm sure. He'll be eligible to play next year.

Purdue fan?

Oh, and first question... how do we pronounce B1G, exactly? Or do we still just call it the Big Ten?
Big Ten. We're kind of old fashioned in the Big Ten. It may take some getting used to. For example, Randy Edsall will have to get used to saying things like, "Nothing matters but the BIg Ten Championship. We just want to play in Pasadena on New Years Day."Oh - and everyone hates Ohio. You will too. It kind of brings us all together.

Well, first Randy Edsall will have to get used to saying things like, "I'd like to finish with a .500 record so I can keep my job."

Fixed.

Really ugly win by IU tonight, they only played well for about 5 minutes of the game with Hulls and Oladipo pretty much carrying them. The Georgia team they played was really not good and just drug IU down to their level in a sloppy game.

Hadn't had a chance to see IU play this year. Obviously only one game, and they were playing in NYC so first time on the road for the young guys, but the Freshman all looked rough. Yogi threw up some bricks when he was wide open and didn't look good handling the ball. Dude is quick though and if IU is shooting well he's going to have a lot of opportunities to drive to the hoop.

Looking forward to tomorrow's game against UCLA or Georgetown.

I wouldn't like somebody that beat my ### every year either.

I thought the whole second half was pretty solid. Oladipo was incredible, attacking the basket and Hulls was his usual self hitting the threes and dishing some nice assists. Good defense, taking some charges and getting the rebound. Zeller did not have a big ball game, but he was in foul trouble and they did not need him.

The first road game is always rough, but yes it was ugly.Ferrell and Hollowell were completely taken out of the game by the bright lights. Zeller still looks like he is fighting the flu. Sheehey was ice cold. Creek was a non factor. Watford played well but I would have really liked to see him go to the basket once Georgia was in foul trouble. He is still and forever way more comfortable just pulling up for jump shots. His rebounding is much improved this year though.Ugly, ugly win.

It was surreal to listen to Knight call the game. It probably doesn't seem like much, but if you have followed him it actually was a pretty big step towards reconnecting with the university.

I am sure Tom Crean would love this. Crean is doing a great job of taking advantage of IU's tradition and incorporating it into what he is doing there. I am a huge, huge Knight fan. Make all kinds of excuses for him, always stick up for him when he steps in it, but Knight needs to get over himself and go back to Bloomington.

Have been a huge Knight fan since I was a kid. I think he usually provides great analysis, but I thought he was just OK calling this game. Still, a couple nice moments. The Hoosiers sucked for too big a chunk of that game, but Hulls and Oladipo were strong. Remy Abell continues to be a really good player off the bench.

Terrible news for Michigan State -

Seth Davis ‏@SethDavisHoops

RT @joerexrode: Izzo on Harris: Best case, sprain, out a couple weeks. Worst case, out a long, long, long, long time. Upset, not optimistic.

####That game was one of the worst ref'd games I've ever seen at Breslin.

That really ####### hurts! That kid made the offense go, and played decent defense for a freshman. Crap!
Love this, though..."During a late time-out, Izzo said he looked at Appling and said: "It's time, big boy. You wanted the stage, you got it. So bring it home."" And he did.

Georgetown is going to give a lot of teams problems if they can continue to shoot the ball as well as they did last night.

Tell you what, though, I'll take "just OK" from BK over Dookie V's manic shtick ANY ####ing time. That was painful.

Great game until Georgetown ran out of gas in overtime. The Illini look great against USC and now get Butler in the Maui title game. Paul, Richardson, Abrams, Bertrand... They are loaded with ball handlers, shooters, and on the ball pressure. Butler will be interesting since they play the tough type of style the Illini will have to play night in night out in conference. Their bigs will be tested all year and need to hold their own for a tourney bid.

Michigan's first challenge is 930 tonight against Pitt. I am very interested to see how these freshman play.
