Big Ten Basketball 2022/2023 - Return to Power (1 Viewer)

Duke/Wisky tomorrow, though -
I'm as excited about watching that as anyone, but the quality of a conference is proven by it's entire makeup; not just the top teams. That's the measure of how tough a full schedule in that conference really is.

Boeheim and Beilein trading time outs to finish a close game is a masters clinic in college basketball coaching.

Glad to see the Bucks fight back in the 2nd half. Young team, on the road against a top team that pressures the ball, could have easily folded. Russell looks to be the real thing.

Nebraska :deadhorse: FSU

Rutgers :deadhorse: Clemson

Indiana :deadhorse: Pittsburgh

Minnesota :deadhorse: Wake Forest

Michigan :deadhorse: Syracuse

Purdue :deadhorse: North Carolina State

Takeaways from tonight....

Louisville is vulnerable.

Purdue is vastly underrated.

Gopher guards are flat out dangerous.

Spike Albrecht can still hit the big shot.

Good win for Michigan.
Yes, but Syracuse flat out gave that away.
Yes and no. Syracuse had some bad turnovers late, but Michigan blew a 10-point lead late and missed the front end of two one and ones in the final two minutes. So despite both teams playing well in the second half, they both trried to give the game away.

Michigan played poorly and was fortunate to get out with the win....I'll take it. Syracuse crapped themselves (a tad more) and gave the game away with those turnovers at the end. This team is pretty fun to watch.

Purdue is vastly underrated.
Octeus was a huge find for this program. Too bad he's only here one year. Having Haas or Hammons on the course for the entire game is huge for this team. They are going to be fun to watch.

What was up with that call at the end of the game last night? I've never heard of such a thing in that situation. The one about establishing themselves in the court of play before touching the ball or some such.

Sam Dekker needs to get right for Wisconsin to approach their expectations this season, and his very lofty individual pre-season hype. Rumors of a high ankle sprain bothering him in the Atlantis tournament, but he still played 3 games in 3 days, approx. 30 minutes on Thursday and Friday. We already know he won't play D, but last night he was very timid, scored 5 points on just 5 shots in 24 minutes. Wisconsin has nothing to be ashamed of overall, losing to a red hot Duke team, but Dekker is a concern.

Well over 50% from the field and three was insane....no idea how it was only three at half.

Which game? If a player goes out of bounds, I think he has to get both feet back inbounds before touching the ball.

Virginia is really, really good. Maryland has generally played pretty good defense so far, and just couldn't stop them last night. I left that game feeling that Maryland can still be pretty good this year.

Sparty looking pretty mediocre. Not excited for how this team will compete in conference play...
Lots of changing roles for returning players and getting more time from guys who were very small role players last season. Growing pains. 2015-2016 will be much better. Going to be many ND-type games like last night for us this year.

I think there're a bunch of teams that will compete in that 2nd tier behind WI in the Big Ten. Michigan, MSU, OSU, MD, NE, Iowa - they are all just kind of bunched up there.

For Michigan, Ricky Doyle has started to develop as a big. He looks pretty darn good so far for a freshman. If he can become solid to good and Donnal can provide the other minutes there, Michigan should be pretty good.

It doesn't look like any of the other freshmen besides Chatman, Doyle, and Donnal (RS) will get much, if any, playing time.

Oh - and Spike rules.

And Duncan Robinson just broke Stauskas's shooting record in practice. Excited to see him next year.

The job Beilein has done in Michigan is pretty amazing. Turning guys barely ranked in the top 100 (Burke, Stauskus, Hardaway) in to high NBA draft picks. And now LeVert who was not even ranked in most rankings, into a guy who could go mid 1st round. I am not sure who is doing any better with developing talent right now.

It was in the NCSU vs Purdue game. I'm not sure I could find the video now (if it ever existed) and I'm not going to pack pride to get the low down. This seems like something right up their ally. But a NCSU guy was OB while a teammate had the ball. He came back in bounds as the ball was being passed to him and a foul was called for him being the first to touch it after being OB. I think I have that correct. I've seen this call made when a person saves the ball and it's sitting there on the floor waiting to be picked up etc, but not in a scenario like this.

Yup, this is probably exactly correct.

It's so enjoyable to watch a coach support his players, build their confidence, and then turn them loose. Beilein's guys just get better every year. On the flipside of that is Izzo. He gets results also but only once his players have jumped through a bunch of mental hurdles.

Fixed from my point of view.
What are your expectations for this team?

They are relying on alot of freshman and sophmores and that will increase as we move along and they get more comfortable. Hopefully Thad can get D'A to stick around.
Maybe finish 5th in the conference? Guess it depends on how well they develop together.

The football Badgers gave up as many points in the first half as the basketball team did in their win over Marquette today.

I can't believe this is the same Michigan team that beat Syracuse just one week ago and lost to Villanova on a great defensive play.

This is pathetic. They've not hit a shot in 13 minutes. Literally.

Well, I don't know what happened to them, but I guess we can write off Michigan as being in that 2nd group in the Big Ten.

One senior and one junior right? REALLY young. This shouldn't happen, but I'm not shocked that it is.

Michigan will be OK. But they will get destroyed by a good big man. This team has more holes and is not as talented as the last two years.

The conference has losses to Eastern Michigan, NJIT, Incarnate Word, North Florida, Eastern Washington, Rhode Island, Charlotte, and St. Peter's.

Ouch.

I'm not really sure why UM went from good to bad overnight. Didn't catch the two losses. Hopefully, the switch will flip back as quick.

Lots of breakdowns on defense....LOTS of breakdowns.
And I assume a ridiculous level of poor shooting against EMU?
coach praised the emu zone, said they had trouble designing looks all night. The rare times there were clean looks they didn't fall.Njit just couldn't miss. Had a second half cold streak that doomed us. Kept getting back into it but njit hit everything no matter how well it was defensed.
