Big Ten Basketball 2022/2023 - Return to Power (1 Viewer)

Started reading this thread and couldn't for the life of me understand why people were talking about Maryland. That one's gonna take awhile
They've overtaken us. We should rename this thread "Terps and 13 other schools"

I kid, I kid. UH, RC and others have been a welcome addition.

Nice win, Hoosiers!  Tough one, Sparty.  Oof, Terps...  Unfortunately, I was out last night, so didn't get to watch any of the games.  Kinda wish I had been able to catch Indiana and Mich. St.

To answer Moe's question, I just talk/write about the Terps more because I'm a fan and I know much more about them.  This year's team should have talent, but it will need to gel a little better than it apparently did last night.  Tuesday against Georgetown should be telling.

But, hey, most important - B1G Hoops is back!!!

I wasn't trying to be critical, I just meant my brain doesn't default to Maryland in the B1G yet for some reason

Got them ast 25-1 to win it - crazy to bet against Duke but I was looking for value.   B10 will be very tough at the top but I like IU's upside.
I think before last night at South Point, they were 33-1.  I did decide to bet Oregon at 20-1 since that seemed like too much value to pass up.

Happy to get the win, but the Terps looked pretty bad.  Terrible shooting, mediocre defense.  Only thing that saved them was Georgetown melting down at the end.

Nickens can't hit water from a boat.

It was basically the Trimble and Cowan show for most of the game, with a little of Jackson thrown in.

Hoosiers pummeled the mighty UMass Lowell River Hawks. This team is deeper than last year, more athletic.
Blackmon looks very dangerous from the perimeter.  I know he had a reputation as a pure shooter coming in, but his range/confidence/accuracy seem at another level early on.

The Terps had three frosh play significant minutes and they should only get better as the season goes on.  Nickens will soon be relegated to just a few minutes per game.

And the Terps D was really good.

He looks way less frail as well. They said last night that he gained 6" on his vertical after the surgery. Robert Johnson looks great, the transfer guard looks great. I have a man crush on OG. No reason they shouldn't be near top of  Big10.

Crean, you weirdo, my hats off to you.

Unfortunatly the worst team on earth, Boilermakers, also look great :pukeinmouth:

So its hard to recognize this Michigan team.

DJ Wilson is playing great and he gives M a completely different look. Michigan has never had this much height under Beilein. And hiring Billy Donlan as a sort of defensive coordinator has been a huge addition.

Results are great so far. We will see how it goes.

Don't look now but Minnesota is looking pretty good at 5-0. Much better than last year.

Amir Coffey is the real deal and Lynch has been a true Center.

Hopefully .500 in the conference with upside.

 I P F W
Certainly looked like the better team last night.  IU's guard play was awful on both ends of the court. I felt like Blackmon was trying to do too much by himself in front of his hometown crowd, especially dribbling into traffic.

IPFW (my alma mater back in their D2/D3 days) will make a run at the tournament, as they should be the top team in their conference. They got knocked out in their conference tournament finals last year, I think.

Too early to react at this time in the season.  Team's are still trying to find their way playing together against real opponents, coaches are working on their rotations, etc.  After New Years is when the time for worry begins.

Big Ten   3

ACC      3

Illinois big 2nd have to beat NC State

Badgers handled the zone beautifully.  Nigel misses free throw to miss triple double.

Oof, Terps.  Is it a problem that a team whose offense is geared to take a lot of three pointers can't shoot threes?

Nickens may as well transfer right now.  His defense is terrible, doesn't really handle the ball, and he can't shoot.

Been waiting for one of these outcomes. There will be more, I'm afraid.

Nickens has turned into Chuck Knoblach trying to throw out a guy at first or Tiger a couple of years ago when his chipping was awful. I expected some erratic shooting from him, but he's got the yips and can't get past it. He'll even make his first 3 attempt, then just lose it. The other guys have different ways to score. Nickens is like Brian Magid, except bad.

Best Nigel Hayes has looked all season. I've been waiting to see the old Nigel Hayes. My hunch is that guy isn't coming back. Against man defense, he seems content to stay on the perimeter. Not his strength, and I suspect he's doing it to try to raise his NBA profile. Not good for the Badgers in the long run. Ethan Happ is still good. I like the way Koenig is playing. And Trice is a nice surprise.

All that said, the game against Syracuse was the best Wisconsin has looked.

I watched the Badgers in the finals during the Maui invitational. I think North Carolina is the best team in the country.

Here I was excited about Andy Van Vliet and Bevin Pritzl but it's Dmitrik Trice (Travis' little brother) that is going to be a star.  Heck of a start for this freshman.

Cardiac Terps again!  For any who didn't watch, OK St had a game winner go in, but it was released maybe two tenths of a second after the horn sounded.

Terps are now 4-1 in games where they've trailed by 10+ in the second half, but long term, that trend can't continue (can it?).  Also, shooting 4-22 from deep isn't going to win conference games.  They need to get to at least 35% from deep as a team.

Here comes conference play!

Current KenPom rankings:

  1. Wisconsin
  2. Purdue
  3. Indiana
  4. Michigan
  5. Ohio St.
  6. Northwestern
  7. Minnesota
  8. Michigan St.
  9. Maryland
  10. Illinois
  11. Iowa
  12. Nebraska
  13. Penn St.
  14. Rutgers
