Big Ten Basketball 2022/2023 - Return to Power (9 Viewers)

Tough road win for the Spartans. Ugly shooting pct. for both team at the end, but MSU pulled through. Getting W's on the road is a bonus, esp. in places like Madison.
:goodposting: But Sunday @IU won't be pretty if they can't improve that shooting. Toward the end of that Wisc game, they could have put it away but made, by my count, 8 straight trips down the floor with no points
true, but in Wisky, no one scores any points, always low-scoring affairs. IU has shown they are beatable, if you get the right coverages on Big Z and Oladipo. MSU will definitely have to be on their A+ game for sure.

Tubby Smith team falling apart? I loved what I saw from Gophers early in the year, but the B1G has not been kind to them.

Another big win for Wisconsin. I hope they are a tournament team this year as they could make a sweet sixteen run.
Oh they will be dancing, absolutely. Matchup dependent team though. No one wants to play them but they just don't have the horses to make a deep run.

If this holds this is really going to cost northwestern, ncaa potential but cannot lose to the bottom. Even on the road. Going to probably need a big upset or two now.

Yeah, computers will love them. They'll no doubt be a trendy pick b/c they can hang with anyone but the counter is they can lose to anyone.

Barring a complete collapse, they are in the top 65. They are about to be ranked somewhere around 20 this week. They beat Illinois, Indiana, and Minnesota. Those teams were ranked 12, 2, 12 respectively. There only B1G loss is a 2 point loss to #13 Michigan State. This is a tournament team.

Giving them another two weeks to right the ship, talent is there, definitely been in a funk though.
Right, I posted here (or maybe the NCAA thread) that I thought they were the 3rd best B1G team. Now, they are sitting there with a losing record in conference play.

Crazy, the local radio here still had them out (prior to this win). I looked at ESPN and CBS and they have them as a 7 seed which would be great knowing that there is a chance they could knock out a 2 seed and make a run.

MSU got Hoosiered towards the end. Guess that is why home court is good for 5 points.
Eh. The travel call on Nix on the rebound while he was getting pushed by 2 guys and never really had possession of the ball was bad, but overall I didn't feel MSU got jobbed. If MSU plays like that, they'll win every game left on their schedule except @Michigan. Obviously they won't play like that every game, but it was very encouraging.

Nix's travel call should have been a jump ball, and IU would get the ball anyways. Hulls also got a foul called on him when he got all ball, so the officiating did not play that big of a factor. Great game by both teams

Agree. MSU looking tough.

On that play, it looked like Indiana might have been out of bounds before but in no way is it a travel. Either it is a jump ball or neither person had possession. The charge call was pretty egregious. Payne had taken off before Zeller was set and the refs are told to call a block if in doubt and I think this should be doubly applied at the end of a game. There was also a ball that went out of bounds with a couple minutes left that was off IU. Didn't cost MSU the game, just took away from a better ending. And I'm not an MSU fan by any means.

How can Wisconsin not be a tourney team? That is crazy talk. Illinois is a team that could fall if they don't get their act together. Iowa is probably the closest to being a bubble team.

That group of officials were all over the place today; very inconsistent, but they hurt both teams equally. Will Sheehey was literally kicked in the head while driving to the basket and no call/IU turnover. Overall it was a really fun environment, neither team or coach will back down and they just go at it. Oladipo's defensive presence was the difference.

Michigan is such a dangerous team offensively; any little crease or wrinkle in the defense and they will exploit it.

MSU beginning to round into February form in early January. I'm liking what I'm seeing.

I was very impressed with Adreian Payne. When he is playing up to his full potential, he adds a completely different dynamic to MSU's offensive and defensive sets.

1. We are in Superbowl week....2. Duke got their jocks handed to them 3. Michigan basketball s more fun to watch than the Pistons....All I need now is a naked chick to bring me the remote and a cold beer...But god, I would trade 1 and 3 and the chick for one more look at Rat Face on the sidelines of the Miami game.Peace

MSU has some athletes! Payne is a load. Fun game. Zeller isn't ready for the NBA. Neither is #2. He plays lazy a lot. Oladipo is the NBA ready, player. Good to see #0 getting his stroke back these last 2 games. To me, that is what makes IU dangerous, inside and out.

Yeah... that's not saying much. I'd rather watch a soccer game than the NBA (or the Pistons in particular). FYI I hate soccer.

U of M  Best PG in the country. Took care of a dangerous opponent in one of the tougher places to play (loud!). Fully deserving of #1 ranking.# 1
A win on the road in the Big Ten is always a nice win. The thing that was the real takeaway for me is that UM lost Jordan Morgan in the first minute of the game. If Michigan has a weakness, it is their bigs. Morgan is a key for Michigan and really undervalued. He is a big body that does all the dirty work so that the scorers can do their thing. Add to that McGary was in foul trouble all game because he plays 100 mph. UM was forced to give Horford and Bielfeldt important minutes. Both guys proved serviceable. Morgan is averaging 6 points, 5 rebounds in 19 minutes a game. In 23 minutes, Horford/Bielfeldt scored 11 and grabbed 6 boards. It was just one game, but it gives me more confidence in the depth at C. It is nice to be this far into a great season and still find new things to like.

Hopefully it is just a sprain, and he isn't out too long. Like you said though, in the meantime, the backups will get plenty of floor time. That only adds to the depth.

It looked like just a sprain. He was on the bench the entire second half, so unlikely to be too serious. However, if he does get hurt or into foul trouble, it is nice to see that there are 3 other bigs that are capable of eating up minutes.

Big game Wednesday night against a Northwestern team which has beaten both Illinois and Minnesota recently. 1 game at a time here.

Considering Michigan won in Evanston by 28, this would be a really disappointing loss.

They couldn't get anything in the paint. Early in the season they were dominating inside. On Saturday they couldn't buy an inside hoop.Dumb passes & missed free throws cost them big in the this one. Any time your'e in position to take a W in Wisconsin, you've got to capitalize. Hopefully Tubby can turn this thing around and get these guys playing hard, playing smart, and give 'em a "my game" mentality. All 3 of those things have been sorely missing of late.

It's the Big Ten, and NU has beaten some heavy hitters more recently than that last game against U of M. Overlooking a team wouldn't be wise.

I agree. However, looking at Michigan's remaining schedule, this is the second easiest game left. It would be a bad loss IMO.After NU, Michigan plays the most difficult 4 game stretch that any team in the country will have: @ Indiana, vs tOSU, @Wisconsin, @MSU.

Yeah, that's not pretty. IU will be beyond tough. I think they get revenge on the school from Ohio. Wisconsin will be very tough. I really hope they beat MSU on their floor. As much as I respect Tommy Izzo I know it eats away at him when he's not the top dog in the state. He likes to play up the humility but is hiding a pretty good size ego.

If UM goes 4-1 in the next 5 games, then I think they lock up a 2 seed at worst with a month left to play. (Even if they lose to IU and MSU and lose early in the Big 10 tourney in the final 2 weeks of the year). Real important stretch.

What the hell's happened to Zeller?? He looked like a freshman this weekend compared to how he looked early in the season against UNC.

NW has trap written all over it, bet it's close and likely down at half, we'll see what happens in the 2nd. Think we'll win, but won't be pretty. Kinda happy I'm busy and will miss it. Really jacked about the game Saturday night though.

Don't worry, buddy. I am sure you will win one of these years... Michigan football will be back to relevance eventually...
