Big Ten Basketball 2022/2023 - Return to Power (2 Viewers)

Michigan's youth really shows up on the road. It's a night and day difference for them. Have to keep reminding myself that there are times where five freshman are on the floor. I'm not sure there's much else that can fix inexperience other than experience (if that makes sense).

No question. Robinson has had trouble showing up at all lately (home or away). McGary was way overmatched. Stouskas (sp?) had some nice minutes, but his defense was painful. Hardaway choked (upperclassmen gotta step up). Burke is the only one who had a respectable game and even he was mostly ineffective against Appling who arguably had his best defensive performance ever.Even Izzo said this was Sparty's best game of the year and UM's worst, so I don't expect a repeat in Ann Arbor. But DAMN I love B1G basketball... especially this year!

They look fatigued from the pressure. Their success in the tournament is going to depend a lot on match ups I suspect. I know that's true regardless of team, but I think it's a larger part of the equation for Michigan than several other schools.

The Bres was rocking like I'd never seen it before last night. It was the most fun I'd had at a game in years. Didn't get home until 2 Am this morning. I'm paying for it with the loss of sleep today, but it's oh so worth it.This team may have a hiccup or two down the stretch of the regular season, especially those road games, but I have to say, they are as primed for a big tourney run as I've ever seen them. I just hope they aren't peaking too early. Typically it's later in the month of February when they put the pedal to the metal.

Any word on Dawson or Trice? Valentine had a nice game, but Trice makes this team that much better/deeper.

Valentine is really coming on. This Freshman class is turing out to be pretty damn good. Trice still mending, they aren't taking any chances with him with the concossion issue I'm sure.

Yeah, even Costello looked serviceable! Here's all I can find on Dawson... hopefully he's good to go for the Huskers

Dawson got hit on the nose and lip in the second half, but didn't appear to suffer a concussion, according to Izzo

Yea, he should be good to go. There a 1PM presser, maybe something more will come out today, but I don't think he will miss time.

a week or two ago I was checking NBA mock drafts and saw Glenn Robinson going top 10 in a number of them, ahead of Burke in 50% probably. I just don't see it. the guy needs another year in college. he's been brutally bad the last couple weeks.

Great game tonight, the crowd should be crazy. Sparty -1.5 kind of surprises me.
Surprised me too. I think Michigan was favored at home by 9 or so over OSU. OSU was favored by about the same margin at their place. I think Indiana was favored by 7-8 when Michigan game to town. Gotta be all over Sparty here no??
That's what I was thinking. Breslin center should be going nuts and MSU has been playing their best ball. The over/under seemed low as well to me at 130.5.
I rarely bet, but did last night.... :goodposting: all around
all around … other than the total

He's been invisible. Burke and Hardaway are top 5-10 NBA talents. G RobIII will come around I'm sure, he definitely has the ability to be great.

They all need to stay all four years :P

Heck no...I don't care much for jon_mx in most threads, but he's been good in this thread. He stuck his neck out and made some predictions. I find it funny that one feels the need to go dig up prediction posts based on the evidence presented at the time. Things change quickly in CBB.
Funny, seems I've heard that one before.Commish just seems to always have an issue with whatever I say. That's fine. I'm just ratlling chains a bit after a big win. If you have a problem with that, I'm sorry.

I think any kid that leaves a college program early should be minimally required to repay any scholarship $$ he was given. In MOST cases, I think it shows a lack of class, maturity, commitment and integrity. That being said, if Hardaway, Burke and Robinson want to leave early, I'm OK with it ;)

WTF? It's big business and ultimately the universities just view these kids as $$$. The athletes owe the university nothing.

To have a problem, I have to care. You're mistaken if you think I do. It's not you specifically. It's the "type" if you will. No need to apologize for who you are.

Couldn't disagree more. These athletes owe the university, and more specifically the coaches EVERYTHING! Yeah, it's a "business" in terms of generating money for the program, but kids need to learn to have some class and honor a commitment (again, in MOST cases - I recognize there are exceptions).NOW GET OFF MY LAWN!

I do have to say, as impressive as this beatdown was for State, and it was right up there (probably better than the 2000 massacre because this UM team is good, that one was horrible), State better not rest on their laurels and better be up and prepared for the war which will be rest of the season.

The whole scholarship thing is a racket IMO. It's a facade. I'd probably be right in the boat with you helping row if it weren't for the fact that the athletes are treated so differently than everyone else in the system. It's truly sad to see and I really don't know what the answer is.

Enjoy your day little brother, you deserve it. :hifive:

Went to the game last night great overall atmosphere, and great outcome. Hopefully no consussion for Dawson, he was very very woozy when he went to the bench. I've gone to two games this year and he got hurt in both of them

 Napolean needs to lower his blood pressure a bit. Still bitter about losing recruits in the 80's and 90's to Michigan? Get over it. I'm sure Izzo has always been very respectful on the recruiting road toward Michigan and other schools.Izzo apparently wants to take the in-state rivalry to a whole new level I guess. Sounds like the past couple years have gotten under his skin. He was quite pleased that football coaches present and past were there it seems.

Going to MN v WI tonight. Goph's need a win or they are going to enter the discussion of being on the bubble. What a trainwreck this season has become.

How is it they can comprehend this concept as it applies to basketball but it seems inconceivable when applied to football? With that said, isn't Izzo like 20-10 or 19-11...something like that against Michigan? I think that winning streak has closed the gap to 20ish games in the overall rivalry right?

I think it's 21-11 (21-6 if you don't count the cheating years :D ). I don't believe for a minute that any true MSU or UM fan honestly believes that there is no rivalry (football or basketball or hockey or beer pong). Saying there isn't is just a way to get under the skin of the other fan base. One of my best friends is a UM alum... played football there. We jab each other about anything and everything MSU/UM related. Rivalries are fun, until tools doosh it up and take it too far. Pretty sure you can find many examples of both (fun and doosh) in this thread.

I'll be honest....I've never paid attention to this from basketball. I pulled the numbers out of my butt from what I thought I remembered. I had to go look it up :bag: I agree with you though. I don't get the hate that these fanbases spew towards one another. I like the "all in good fun" angle of these things. There are some darker places on the innerwebs that don't put up with "all in good fun". It really is SERIOUS BUSINESS to these tools...I frequently wonder what happened that made their lives so miserable to get to this point.

Yes of course there is one on both sides, I was being facetious, as spartans alwasy use to hear that about football.

Yep it is nice to talk to other Michigan fans mostly who are alumni about the rivarly and it's nice to be able to talk to people who are level-headed and realist's. It's just when you get those Wal-Mart Wolverines who are obnoxious, and over the top as you can easily tell scrumptrulescent is with his comments just recently."little brother nice game", calling Izzo Napoleon, making an exuse and nitpicking about the Wisconson last shot saying Brust was a liar because he said the shot felt good coming off his hands.

:goodposting: My stupid in-laws and that whole side of our family are MSU honks who doosh it up and take it too far. Gramps, uncles, and cousins pick on my 8 year old son for being the only UM kid in the family. Super mouthy in a Sparty victory, dead silent in a UM victory. Cheer louder for a UM loss than they do a MSU win, no matter the opponent. Choose to boo UM instead of cheer on their own teams. Very typical for that side of the family and has given me a distorted view of what MSU fans are maybe. I teach my kid to cheer the Wolverines instead of booing the opponent. To act like you've been there before when your team wins. You know, class. My in-laws don't know the meaning of the word when it comes to the in state rivalry.

Excellent posting
Yep it is nice to talk to other Michigan fans mostly who are alumni about the rivarly and it's nice to be able to talk to people who are level-headed and realist's. It's just when you get those Wal-Mart Wolverines who are obnoxious, and over the top as you can easily tell scrumptrulescent is with his comments just recently."little brother nice game", calling Izzo Napoleon, making an exuse and nitpicking about the Wisconson last shot saying Brust was a liar because he said the shot felt good coming off his hands.
I'm messing around on a forum board. You do the same damn thing so get over yourself. I just posted about how I'm surrounded by annoying as hell MSU fans who take it way too far. For every Walmart Wolverine there are 5 Meijer Spartans :lmao: Little brother is no bigger a deal than you spouting about the lack of rivalry. Settle down.Izzo is Napolean. Diminutive and hot headed. Why do you take offense to that?

FWIW....I think you're back peddling  I don't know you from Adam, but the first post you posted here about "no rivalry" falls right in line with the kind of "walmart fan" you were admonishing Michigan fans for being.

Napolean is what one usually calls some short guy who is on a power trip and is insecure because he is short. I don't think many folks think that Izzo falls into any of those categories.

Definitely short, I've stood next to him and at 6' I towered over him. He can't be more than 5'7".

I think he's like 5'7", which has about as much bearing on his coaching ability as Brady Hoke's weight does on his.
