Gophers take awful care of the basketball, they suck pretty bad. Michigan isnt playing well and shouldn't be winning right now.

Big must win for Michigan. Clinging on to hope for a bid. Outside of maybe Wisconsin, can not afford a home loss.

Plenty of room to pile on Michigan...we did lose to New Jersey Inatitute of Technology, hard to imagine a more embarrassing loss.
Reasonably good game by the Terps at Purdue. Pack and Layman were very good. Terps were back to normal at the stripe, so perhaps the Illinois game was just an aberration. Haas getting to four fouls was huge, as he was killing the boards. He's a beast. Dodd has had two poor games in a row, and will need to play better and commit fewer fouls.
The officiating was suspect in both directions. Both coaches got a technical, Turgeon in the first half, Painter in the second.

Pack saved their asses.
I thought Turgeon's T was on purpose, trying to fire the guys up.
A couple of Dodd's fouls were bull ####, but so were some of those called on Purdue. He's just gotta understand what the other team is trying to do to him.
FT shooting has already won the Terps a couple of games this year and I think it may win them a few more.

So Bucky loses to Rutgers. No Kaminsky and Jackson rolled his ankle pretty good so he missed most of the 2nd half. Great shooting by RU and the lack of depth really hurt.

Traevon Jackson out at least 6 weeks with a broken foot, surgery on Thursday. That's a huge loss for Wisconsin.
Michigan has 4 probable loses on the road (@OSU, @MSU, @IU, and @Maryland) and 4 very tough home games (Wisc, Iowa, MSU, OSU). and a semi-tough road game at Illinois. That leaves 5 absolute must wins. In those tough 9 games, they must win 3 of them. That would put them at 11-7 in B10 play and 18-12 overall. That might be enough for the bubble and a 10-11th seed. Those three horrible loses are going to be tough to overcome. I am almost seeing an NIT bid unless they really put it together.

Dre Hollins has turf toe but is playing ok. Deandre Mathieu has been just terrible. Out of control and tons of turnovers. Not sure what happened. Nate Mason should be starting.I'll be there tomorrow night against Iowa. We'll see if they can get their first B1G win.

Maybe. Although I am really anxious to see what Koenig can do in a lead role. The kid was a highly touted recruit, let's not forget. It also means we'll see more Zak Showalter, a kid I happen to think has a bright future. Getting Kaminsky back soon is the bigger thing.strykerpks said:

My first thought as well was that there may be a silver lining in this. The Badgers will definitely need Traevon back for the tournaments, but its not such a bad thing to see how Koenig and Showalter respond to this. Gasser may also have to take on somewhat of a leadership, court-general role.

And Derrick Walton has been disappointing this year. He has been a little exposed as more has been asked of him this year. However he seems to be inproving so it might have just been injury related.Was that me?

It is pretty amazing. I've been hating on Crean for awhile but thumbs up for getting wins.Garrett said:

As good of a year he had with in 2013, it was still disappointing they were not in the Final 4. Last year was a total disaster not even to make the NIT with the talent of a top 20 team they had. This year looked to be a huge train wreck coming into the season, but somehow Crean has pulled out a solid season so far. I thought he was on the road of getting fired in a couple years, but he pulled it together. Just making the tourney this year, and they should, will be a big win for him.

Agree with all that. I assume they can't get rid of him because of the huge contract he has.
My thinking is that he is a good recruiter, doesn't seem like he'll cheat, seems like an OK guy. Just don't think he is a top level coach just from the results he gets and watching games. I hope if they were to part ways it is because they have something lined up that is considered a no-brainer - Shaka Smart, Brad Stevens type guy.
Well. Maryland did not play particularly well tonight. For the first 12-14 minutes of the second half, there seemed to be a lid on Maryland's basket, and everything Rutgers shot went in. Maryland's shot selection wasn't great during that period, but even their open looks didn't seem to go in. Down the stretch, good defense, driving and drawing contact, and making free throws enabled the comeback. Dez was up and down, per usual, taking some poor shots, but then coming up big in the clutch.
I am concerned about the Terps' offense since conference play has started. The shooting percentage is way down. The defense wasn't as good tonight as it has been, but I'm not as concerned about that as the offense.

I think this is where the big guys not being natural scorers is hurting them. Dodd went - what? - 1-4 or something last night and the other two barely ever attempt a shot. Granted, the offense doesn't run through them, but still....... Just looked it up: Dodd, Graham, & Cek a combined 3-8 last night. They're now playing against better bigs in the B1G, so even their garbage attempts seem to have gone down.
On the flip side, this is the best defensive Maryland team I've seen in a while.
MSU up Saturday in College Park. O/U somewhere around 84?

A nice win by the Hawkeyes over the Buckeyes today. 2-0 this season against them.
Nice one for Iowa. In another one, Penn St. needed to get a better shot off at the end of regulation.

Spartans really struggled from the free throw line; 4 of 13 compared to 20 of 22 for the Terps. There was a point where Michigan St. was 0-7 from the line in the second half. You can't win like that.

I thought the D was magnificent until it didn't matter.
It was nice to see Layman be aggressive. That's something I think you mentioned, Rich, after Dez came back.
There are a bazillion flaws (I'm starting to worry about Smczyzczyz and also the bigs), but play D, hustle, and make FTs.........I dunno. I think they're pretty good.

Layman seems capable of taking the momentum from the other team on command. With his length and quickness he can smoother people if they don't see it coming and then runs the floor like a guy half his size. If Turg can manage to coach up the Dodd/Graham/Cek situation to get just a little more out of them, look out. Melo is the truth.
I really like that he's started to be aggressive on offense again. His rebounding has really improved as well. I'm starting to worry he could go pro after this year.

What are the odds Melo goes pro after this season? Of course, he's not ready but I say that about most of them. I don't begrudge any of them for doing it, though.
Trimble did a great job defensively on Trice yesterday.
