Big Ten Basketball 2022/2023 - Return to Power (1 Viewer)

Boy, IU is fun to watch. I'm guessing by the comments I see in this thread that they don't always play this well, but they're entertaining.

Especially compared to last year, when they played a similar style, except with basically 1 guy on the team that could hit a jump shot

Ouch. Maryland didn't play defense, didn't shoot free throws, didn't execute on offense. And Ferrell couldn't miss. Odd, because if you told me in advance that Maryland would shoot 51% and 50% from three, I would have been all over that.

I'm almost getting to the point where I'm disappointed when I see Dez come back in the game. Didn't think that would ever happen, but he just doesn't look right to me. I think Maryland's best lineup is Trimble, Layman, Pack, Nickens, and Dodd/Graham/Smo.

MD got out-hustled, too. First time I can say that in a Terps' game I've watched this year. They didn't NOT hustle, but IU was just quicker to the ball.

For all of the 3s IU hit, I was more alarmed at how easily they were able to drive inside.

I'm not sure what is going on with Dez. He looks hesitant. And when he does penetrate, half the time he ends up with an awkward shot. Looks like a guy who has lost his swerve.

Only seen a handful of the top rated teams this year but the Badgers bigs are the only ones I have seen that match up with the guys Kentucky rolls out.

Don't know if anyone else watched the Maryland game tonight, but... wow. Terps did not deserve to win that game. For 37 minutes, the defense looked about the same as it did against Indiana. The press worked, to the point where I wonder why they don't do that more often.

As for Dez Wells, I apologize for everything I wrote last time. Nice work, Dez!

Gopher fans, any thoughts on Jarvis Johnson next year?
Hopefully he'll be good?
He should be decent. He had some roles that he needs to play with DLS that limits other parts of a very good game.

But actually getting a top recruit from a top-5 school in MN should be good, right?
Yeah, he's a great get. Him and Dorsey coming in from Maryland should team up with Nate Mason to give the Gophers a really good back court of the future. There'll be some growing pains next year with two freshman and a sophomore playing the major guard roles and barring a transfer or Juco or two the front court is going to be absolutely raw so next year's team will likely be ####### terrible, but Johnson is a great get for Pitino and the program.

I promise you that Coach Thorson has coached him to the NCAA level. His talents will dictate his outcome and I think he is ready for the college game.

But this is a very biased opinion.

Side note: I've always looked at the Gopher basketball program as soft, at best, since the early 90's. So being remotely excited is cause for celebration in a lot of ways.

Thorson's a great coach, I have a lot of optimism for Johnson's future.

Best coach in MN HS basketball. He can get the maximum from his players, with or without talent.

Ok.
:whoosh:
I may be an idiot. Keep that in mind.
Sorry I thought you have been following along. That is/was the answer to any Gopher question this year, per Frosty

Carry on.

My bad. I hadn't been following any Gopher basketball until I saw that Jarvis signed. Now I have a 40% interest.

Much more of a hockey guy but this year has been, well, deflating.
