Big Ten Basketball 2022/2023 - Return to Power (3 Viewers)

He may get a pass due to losing players to injury, but its just a matter of time, IMHO. If IU misses the Sweet 16 in the next 2 seasons he's gone.
He has had great teams which he built and he has coached players that weren't expected to be much into great players - Olidipo, and OG come to mind.

He is just painful to watch in tight games though and while I haven't researched it his teams seem to lose leads all the time. Maybe I'm talking out of my ### there as an irrational fan. That I think is a common perception of him fair or not that isn't good for a coach.

He instills zero confidence as a fan that's for sure.

There are only so many great coaches to go around and I personally hate seeing coaches come and go all the time but I wouldn't mind seeing him go. I think they can find better.

I still have no idea how good this Badgers team is.  On paper, they have all the makings of a tough out in the NCAA tournament:  a veteran team, solid defense, good guard play, talented bigs, won't beat themselves, etc.  But they seem to be getting sucked into a bunch of tight games lately.  They've managed to pull them out which is good but they don't have a huge margin of error against tough competition.

ETA:  Nebraska made some great plays down the stretch.
Agree. This team is hard to figure out. They have been struggling scoring lately (probably last 4-5 games) and have managed to pull out some close games against so-so competition. They won't get away with that against tournament teams. If they continue to struggle offensively they'd be a great pick to get upset in the tourney. But if they can turn around the offense and demonstrate they can sustain it over a long stretch of games they could also be a Final 4 team. They just seem to have too much talent though to play at the level they are playing at now.

Terps end their skid at 2 games. They can't put teams away & have to do better on late game FTs if they expect to win any games in whatever tournament they find themselves in.

So I watched Dodd play defense quite a bit today, especially when they kept highlighting it the first half.  He's great coming to help, and prevents the driver from making shots, but I notice that almost every time, Dodd's man gets the rebound after.  It's infuriating.

Trimble is not playing well.  Not for a while now.  At this point, I doubt he'd get drafted at all if he left school now.  Cowan, Huerter, and Brantley looked good today, though.

The bench won this game for the Terps.

We saw this last year, Melo was great for the first 2/3rds of the season but really fell off the last 1/3rd.  You can't bench him I don't think but what do you do with him?  Can Turg take him aside and have him just penetrate and distribute?

OSU seemed like they had 20 offensive rebounds in the first 5 minutes, but I'm not laying that all on Dodd. At least he was active on defense. Jackson and some of others seemed to think the paint had a virus embedded in it.

Huerter reminds me of Vasquez - his mind is working faster than his teammates' and his passes are too much for normal college players to deal with.

At the risk of playing armchair therapist, I think the weight of not being what a lot of people said he was is getting to Melo. He might be the best non-dunking finisher at the rim that I've seen - he can spin the ball off the board a zillion ways and often get a FT out of it, too. Yesterday, he drove and threw up an air ball - never seen him do that before.

This Michigan team is frustrating.  They looked really good to start the season.  Admittedly I missed a big portion of the middle of the season, but they seemed to start struggling once conference play started.  Indiana is their first road win.  When they're playing well I'd like to think they can hang with any team (first half of UCLA), but they never seem to string consistent play together.  Walton is playing great, but Irvin is horrendous right now and their bigs are better than anything they've had in quite a while.  Hopefully everything starts to click and they can pull off an upset at home against Wisconsin or Purdue and get into the tournament.  Winning some of these upcoming road games wouldn't hurt either.  Beilein's teams seem to do pretty well in tournament play.

Huge tool and sparty troll of epic proportions.  Izzo called him out on his antics in his post-game presser last night. Was awesome. I'm sure this will be all he (Dakich) talks about today on his lame radio show. LOL.
I dunno I think he's just honest.  I've never heard him say anything that I didn't really agree with.  He calls teams out when they are playing like this, I don't think it's one sided at all.

About as fake, phony and unprofessional as the come, If I have to listen to anyone call B1G games on TV, give me Jon Crispin (B1GN) anyday over this doosh. Polar opposites professionally speaking.

the crispen brothers never go away it seemed like those guys played for 8 years and now back announcing

Regarding the game. We needed it and we got it. We are so much more comfortable at home than on the road, but that's the sign of a young team. I give us basically no shot to get the win at Purdue, but they need to win the home Nebraska and at Illinois game. That puts them at 10-8 at the worst and they'll probably be ok. If they can get one of the three other games (probably the home against Wiscy), they'll be good and looking to get a decent seed.  Overall, hasn't been that bad of a season with 4 frosh, no length or real inside presence, and a bunch of bench guys from last season.

Solid 40 minutes from the Terps when they needed it the most. Good job. Statement game for Melo.

IU Minnesota game is getting crazy & 5 minutes havent even come off the clock

That was the game Trimble and the Terps needed.  Backcourt was great.  Huerter wasn't great shooting, but played well otherwise.

Well it wasn't pretty but a win is a win, no matter how hard they tried to let Wisconsin come back at the end.  Now let's see if they can actually win a road game.....

Hey, WI is good. And M played good D. They needed that win.

Makes the BIG title race wide open now.

jesus, that avatar :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Michigan is a solid team and gave Wisconsin trouble at the Kohl Center as well.

That said, Nigel Hayes is a just such a disappointing player. Seems he's never been able to really improve the last couple of years. Same guy from two years ago, and he's been figured out.

Tough night for the Freshman Trice starting in place of Koenig, but the kid will be a good player at Wisconsin.

Can anyone other than Happ make in impact for Wisconsin? Could be a quick tourney exit if they don't figure that out.

KenPom has Michigan as the third best team in the B1G after Purdue and Wisconsin.  They are comfortably in the tourney right now; just need to avoid a collapse.

Michigan tied for 6th place in the Big 10 with MN.  Don't see then being third best.  They could be 7th best after their game against MN tomorrow.

Thought Maryland played well, with the exception of free throws (Trimble 5 of 10, what?) and defensive rebounding.  The crucial stretch in the middle of the second half where Maryland got whistled for fouls on 78 Badger possessions in a row was a killer.

Cekovsky needs to work on his hands.  The stats say he only turned it over twice, but it was more like seven, if you count the dropped passes.  Terps easily could have gone into halftime up 12 had Ceko been able to catch.

Melo hit him a bunch of times that should have turned into scores and he either fumbled it away or held on, but had to pass it away.

Eron Harris gone for the season.  Too bad for the kid.  Wasn't having that great of a senior campaign but never want to see a kid end his career with an injury.
