This is my official pre-draft anticipation thread. The suspense is killing me and I just need to get some of it out...
1) Bush or Williams at #1?
This one may go down to the wire. If a chain of events plays out where the Texans end with up with Williams because of these signability issues with Bush, then it seems highly likely to me that Bush will be a Jet. This would be a huge win for the Saints, getting Brick at 4 and probably an extra first in a trade with the Jets. The Jets would also score a big PR event, NY is a great stage for Bush. The combo would provide a pressure cooker that could really get Bush to the legend level, or wear him down when the expectations are not met. Bush the Jet may have a different career than Bush the Texan based on the NY media machine alone...
2) Young or Leinart at 3?
For a team that has basically tipped their hand that they are going QB (or are they?), the Titans have done a great job concealing who it will be. There are people that are sure it will be Young, that it was Young all along. There are others that think the same thing, insert Leinart. If Bush goes #1, the Saints could force the Titans hand if they find someone willing to trade up for a QB. Then we might see if the Titans are really just split on the QBs, or if they had a guy from day one Of course, they could get info that the QB targeted at 2 is the guy #2 on their QB board anyway and still get their #1 without trading up...
3) What about the other first round QBs?
So if the Titans QB is the first off the board, how far do the QBs fall? Do the Jets take one at 4 (assuming they are still there)? Does another team trade up? Is some team going to trade up to snag Cutler? The Rams/Cutler talk is really picking up steam.
4) White. Maroney, DeAngelo?
Late in the first we could see some moves by teams looking to land these RBs. For fantasy, this is the biggest story of the draft. Steelers-White, Colts-Maroney, Pats-Williams would be huge. The Jags and Panthers could be players. You also have teams going RB when the need is not immediate. some good RB prospects have ended up in these situations in the late first recently(see Willis McGahee, Chris Perry, Larry Johnson, Steven Jackson), so don't count out the Giants.
5) The defensive back run?
Signs point to a DB panic in the late first. There are all kinds of interesting burners at CB and excellent safety prospects. There are also many teams with needs in the secondary. We could see some real surprise first round picks here if teams get nervous.
I could continue to 100 easily. The draft is "the first game of the season", and it's a must-win game. Folks, a mini-NFL season happens in the next two days, one that we don't know the outcome of for years. The page is blank and the next chapter of each of the 32 franchises is ready to be written starting in less than 24 hours.
