Bills #2 WR (1 Viewer)

David Yudkin

Footballguy
Looking at different sources and different depth charts, I currently see the Bills second receiver listed as any of the following:

Josh Reed

Roscoe Parrish

Andre Davis

Sam Aiken

Buffalo homers, what's going on up there in the great white north country? Will there be a guy that becomes an almost every down starter or will this evolve into WRBC? And does the QB situation change who the second WR might be?

Article in the Buffalo News (Sunday 4/9/06) has Davis in the drivers seat for WR2. Reed will compete with him in camp and Parrish will also be in the mix but Davis will likely be the WR2, IMO.

Edit: Found the link http://www.buffalonews.com/editorial/20060409/1019286.asp

The knock on Reed is that he is slow and has trouble getting open. He did very well getting open playing WR3 his rookie year but that was the year Moulds and Price were 1a and 1b. I don't think the QB situation will have change who the WR2 is.

i'm going to guess A.Davis and Parrish playing most of the 3 WR sets.
I doubt the Bills would have given Reed a contract with a @M SB now to play WR4. I believe that bumps Roscoe down to WR4

I agree. Parrish will be mostly a return specialist and get some of Reed's WR reps but Reed will be the WR3 most of the time.

We'll see a 1st day draft pick and possibly a post-june 1st pickup.

Id wager right now its Evans/Reed, with Davis at #3. Parrish is still way way down the depth chart I believe.

:goodposting: 'Sco (roscoe parrish) is nothing more than a return specialist. Reed has been a disappointment (for the most part) during his career, but will be given first shot at the #2 spot. Davis will really push Reed, and could perhaps end up winning that job.

my bet

#2 Andre Davis

#3 Josh Reed/Roscoe Parrish
I agree and given that alot of 3WR sets have a slot WR and Reed is waaaaaay too slow to be a slot WR, I think Parrish gets more reps as the WR3.

'Sco (roscoe parrish) is nothing more than a return specialist.
I don't think this is correct at all. He was a 2nd round pick and could develop into a very good slot WR.
:goodposting: I'm not sure whether he'll ever be a true WR2, but I think that people here sometimes forget that alot of teams have 3 WR sets where the 3rd WR is a smaller, quicker WR in the slot. So sometimes the 3rd "best" WR isn't the 3rd WR on the field. My opinion is that Josh Reed is fighting Davis for the 2nd WR opposite Evans. The loser has a good chance of really being the 4th WR in terms of playing time.

I put 'Sco in the same category as ARE. ARE did a nice job developing into a servicable receiver. We have yet to see if 'Sco can get it done. So right now, I see Parrish as nothing more than a return guy with limited upside. If he continues to develop he could be a solid #2. I thought the Bills reached for him in the 2nd round last year. :2cents:

I understand the above important part as Parrish's backers have him as a very good slot WR. For fantasy, not real NFL, that is not terribly valuable. And, I do think he can be a decent slot WR in NFL terms. Not many slot WRs are great fantasy WRs.

but you said he was "nothing more" than a return specialist. that suggests (to me, anyway) that you think he has no potential to emerge as a viable WR. I think they reached for him too, but I also think he can be a very effective slot WR where his size won't hurt as much, but his lateral quickness and change of direction skills will make him very dangerous. Personally, I really don't ever see him becoming a solid #2...which is why I think he was a reach in round 2. But, he's considerably more than a "return specialist", IMO.

Who on earth listed Sam Aiken as WR2?
Aiken was Moulds' backup the past couple years. FWIW, I think he could be a better option at #2 than Reed. But, he'll need a strong camp to move up the depth chart.

Should've been more clear in my original post. Right now, I see him as nothing more than a return specialist. So do you see him as more of a Az Hakim type player?

 there are plenty of valuable WR3s in the league with comparable skillsets to Parrish (Hakim, Dante Hall, Kevin Curtis, Wes Welker, etc.). He's got quicks and the ability to make a lot of tacklers miss and doesn't seem to be afraid of working in the middle of the field despite his small size. I don't think he has a chance to become Steve Smith/Santana Moss-good, but I think he can make some big plays and help an offense.

He has been called by Hurricanes head coach Larry Coker as "the most exciting player I've ever coached."

andre davis could be underrated... there were times in his first two years where he looked like the most talented WR on CLE among KJ, morgan & northcutt...

but with the ball spread around so much, & couch & holcomb not being elite QBs, he didn't have the greatest opportunity to flash his talent on regular basis... same with last season, where he was clearly down the depth chart from branch & givens...

no question evans will be the more likely to be double teamed, so he should get his chances this season if he is indeed the WR2... i picked him up off waivers in one dynasty league last season for basically nothing, because i think he has some impressive natural talent & skills, & could surprise in the right situation...

i remember in the draft he went in, later reading mike martz thought he was the best WR in the draft & he almost drafted him in the first round...

davis is super fast, but unlike track stars, he runs well after the catch...

he also has decent hands, & made a few leaping TD catches his first few seasons with browns...

When I look at the WRs on the roster after Evans, it really makes me think that whoever emerges at TE could have a very nice year and should be considered a sleeper. Kevin Everett (on the mend from a torn ACL last summer) is probably the most talented receiver in the bunch, but Tim Euhus is no slouch. We could definitely see a rookie here, maybe even Vernon Davis. If the Bills nab one of the decent second tier TEs in the draft (Byrd, Thomas, Day, Klop, Fasano among others - or maybe even Lewis or Pope in the second), then that will definitely enhance their value.

As far as the #2 WR question, I agree with ARud's take, Davis should end up being the #2 with Reed/Parrish in the slot. I don't think any of them are ideal #2's, although its true that Evans should be blanketed, opening opportunities for them to be productive (along with the TEs).
