Bills playoff chances (1 Viewer)

After careful study of the tiebreakers, standings, and remaining schedule here is what the Bills need:

1. Bills beat Tenn and Balt

2. Miami beats Jets

3. Zero or one of the following 3 scenarios comes true:

A. Denver beats Cinci

B. Cinci wins twice (@Denver and Pittsburgh)

C. Jax wins twice (NE and @KC)

Bills do well in most tie-breaking situations because they have the best Strength of Victory. In a 9-7 tie, the only teams that can beat the Bills are the Jets (if they beat Miami due to a better division record) and Denver (if they beat Cinci due to a better Conference record).

For this week, if NE beats Jax and Miami beats Jets and Bills beat Tenn, then the Bills will just need to beat Balt in week 17 to make the playoffs.

This is really complicated stuff, so if I've made a mistake let me know.

This doesn't seem THAT hard or unlikely.Young seems to make the Titans tough to beat but I still think they have a long way to go personnel wise. Any team that's already clinched is beatable in week 17.Fins get Brown back don't they?I don't want another AFC East team to make it. Pats have struggled within their division and done very very well outside of it. Some weeks I'd swear those teams play better against the Pats than anyone else too.

Any team that's already clinched is beatable in week 17.Yea, that's what we thought a couple years ago against Pittsburgh's backups. Not downplaying Tenn at all but they have really been pulling some games out of their a**. I feel good about Bills this week and with Miami at home with Brown potentially returning they can relish playing spoiler to Jets. Jax can win out or lose out - never know with them.Man that Lions loss hurts bad now.

Even if the Bills don't make the playoffs I'll be fairly satisfied with this season. They progressed a lot. They just need to learn to win close games against good opponents. They lost 4 close games that they had legitimate chances to win:

Week 1 against New England: 17-19

Week 6 against Detroit: 17-20 (this one really hurts)

Week 10 against Indy: 16-17

Week 13 against SD: 21-24

The week 6 game against Detroit shouldn't have even been close. The Bill should have won that game handily. That one is the most frustrating one.

But all 4 of those games were winnable games and division winning teams need to win those games more often than not.

But the fact that they lost to NE, Indy and SD by a total of 6 points shows that they're a decent team.

For this weekend I'll be rooting for losses by the Jets (@ miami, 2.5 point dogs), Cincy (@ Denver, 3 point dogs) and Jacksonville (vs Pats, favored by 3). Those three losses put the bills into the 6th position and a win over the ravens gets them in...

of course that's completely overlooking that the bills need to win this week too...

The playoffs would be nice, but it is just icing on the cake.

THis team looks like its improving; and they are still fairly young. I just hope its not the mirage of three years ago when the Bills were playing well late into the season only to collapse against Pittsburgh's second stringers -- and never bounce back the next year.

Losman is developing into an OK QB -- not great, but if the Bills just get pretty good production out of the QB they should be good.

The OL has improved. Peters may just be the OLT they have been looking for. This was a definite weak spot, and still could use improvement.

The defense has a lot of young guys on it and they are playing well.

No doubt. The fact that I went to that game, and I work with a bunch of Lions fans makes it sting even more. I always hear them #####ing about how bad the Lions are and I :wall: Anyway, I always point out those other three games, too. The Bills were screwed by the refs in 2, and Lindel in 1. If they had won 1 or 2 of those games, they might be back in the playoffs.
