Blackmon and Shorts Injured Wednesday (1 Viewer)

Just saw this... any homers have additional info on these guys? Any idea what the risks of missing the game Sunday really are?

ETA: linky

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Jacksonville could be without starting receivers Justin Blackmon and Cecil Shorts III at Buffalo on Sunday.

Both wideouts apparently were injured in practice Wednesday. They sat out practice Thursday: Blackmon because of a groin injury, and Shorts with a hamstring injury.

I was gonna say Spurlock might be a decent play if either sits out the Buffalo game.

Unfortunately he was cut by Jax on Tuesday and clamed off waivers by San Deigo........

I don't know, it seems a little weird both got hurt at the same practice. I read they were on the practice field in uniform but just didn't take part on Thursday. The fact they both sat out makes me wonder if perhaps it was just a rest thing. The Jags know what they got in them so maybe they just decided to take it easy on them for a day. Remember also that with Robinson out for the year the Jags are working in new receivers onto their roster so perhaps they just wanted to give those guys some extra reps just in case they are needed.

With Henne still fairly new as the starting QB, I highly doubt this.

It does seem odd and unlikely.Of course having both WRs get injured badly enough to miss practice the next day without any observers noticing the injuries seems somewhat odd and unlikely too.

From Rotoworld - Jaguars WRs Cecil Shorts (hamstring) and Justin Blackmon (groin) returned to practice on Friday.Fantasy owners can breathe a sigh of relief, though we still recommend checking back for their official injury designation later this afternoon. The Jaguars run light practices on Fridays, so we will know more after the session.Well my theory seems to have some merit. Henne has been with the team all year and has had plenty of reps with both Shorts and Blackmon. When you have two guys that have very few reps with him it actaully does make sense to give the guys some extra time practice. The Jaguars have only 5 receivers on their roster and 2 were just signed Tuesday. Both those guys are just one injury away from taking the field some.

Coach Mike Mularkey provided no update after Cecil Shorts (hamstring) and Justin Blackmon (groin) unexpectedly sat out Thursday's practice.
More oddity. Even discounting my own hopes for Shorts, I think there's a real chance that the Jags are playing some sort of a game here. A questionable tag for the pair would be good news IMO.

I think they will both be probable and were never endanger of missing the game.

Supposedly Blackmon had some kind of circus catch in practice on Wednesday, that could mean either a tweak or he was totally completely beyond healthy.

Who knows, he sounds ok now according to the report.

My best guess is these two guys have been getting nearly all the work, Houston was a track meet, last week was full of targets, and this week should be too. I'm taking it as a good sign that maybe the team needed to get them rested and ready for a lot more work and they had to put something down on the "injury" report for the missed practices.

True, Spurlock's gone, now it's Elliott and ???...??? They have probably had almost no 1st team work.

Elliott is number 3. The other two guys are Quan Cosby who was signed off the street on Tuesday and Toney Clemons who was signed off of Pittsburgh practice squad on Tuesday. So both of those guys had literally no reps with Henne before Thursday. It would have been nicer if the Jaguars said Shorts and Blackmon missed practice due to a coach's decision instead of listing injuries to problematic areas for receivers but regardless I don't think they are hurt badly at all.

Tweet from the beat writer:

@JohnOehser

WR Justin Blackmon and WR Cecil Shorts appear to be back out on field, working. Friday a light day so we'll know more aftr practice #jaguars

Out of Thursday’s practice because of injuries, Jaguars receivers Justin Blackmon (groin) and Cecil Shorts (hamstring) returned on Friday and coach Mike Mularkey said both will play Sunday at Buffalo.

During the 30 minutes of practice open to the media, Blackmon and Shorts were participating in drills.

Mularkey said the receivers took Thursday off as "precaution," after a physical Wednesday practice.

Looks like you were spot on. Where did you get the info about Blackmon's circus catch??I have MJD and Blackmon, so I need all the info feeds for the Jags as possible!

I was planning on starting Blackmon but now I'm hearing rain and high winds in Buffalo today. I may go with TY Hilton and not risk it with JB.

Didn't someone just show that bad weather has no impact on the passing game? The corner has to cut on slick surface but doesn't know where while the WR will know where he will cut and compensate for it. There are reasons not to start the guy, this is not one of them..

High winds would definitely impact the passing game. Rain usually ends up evening things out unless it's absolutely pouring. But high winds create a lot of incomplete passes.

Glad I went ahead and started Shorts despite that whether.
