bloom, when is the next rookie update (1 Viewer)

I expect to write the latest update this weekend. In the mean time, you can always see mine (and other staffers) top 50 IDP and offensive rookies here.

it's coming... if there's anyone in particular you're really curious about, we can talk about them in this thread.

Scanlon - lit up NFLE, but stuck behind Kawika Mitchell. Definitely a guy to run to the waiver wire for if Mitchell gets hurt.Parrish - Probably a slot receiver unless Andre Davis busts, and that's the best role for him.

Martin - very interesting guy who also had a lot of success in NFLE. He's got good size (6'4" 217) and has been nothing but impressive in minicamps so far this year. It's not like anyone has a strangehold on the WR2, 3, and 4 jobs in GB. Definitely one to watch.

I have a question about the 2nd tier of QBs, specifically Kellen Clemons and Brodie Croyle. I'm torn which one to go with in my rookie draft. Clemens seems like he could be the starter for the Jets by 2007 if they don't draft a QB next season. Reports on him have been good as well. Croyle is a player that I know you aren't as high on, but I think he could be the heir to Trent Green in KC which would lilkely be a better scenario for a young QB. For those of us in start 2 QB leagues, this is obviously an important question to answer and would appreciate any input.

Norwood and Calhoun? I'm going back and forth on those two. What do you think?

Martin Nance - any news from Buffalo?

Hank Baskett - can he make the team in Philly?

Marques Colston - NO converting him to TE? Will he make it?

Dontrelle Moore - Got cut by the Jets, is he done or will he catch on somewhere?

Taurean Henderson - buried pretty deep, any chance to stick? Practice squad?

any other diamonds in the rough you can think of much appreciated.

Interested to hear about Brad Smith's transition to WR

Between Norwood and Calhoun, my uneducated opinion is that if their situations were reversed; Calhoun was in Atlanta, Norwood backing up KJ, this discussion would be much shorter.

They both have size issues but Calhoun was considered a better prospect in almost everything I read pre draft. It's just the spot Norwood landed in that got him a boost.

In dynasty drafts I almost always go with talent over situation. Situations change, but talent will eventually get a shot in most cases.

JJ Arrington is the player that flashes in my mind when I think of these situations. Before the draft last year he was an interesting prospect but barely made the top 10 in pre draft RB rankings in most I saw. Then he goes to a great situation and becomes the consesus #4 RB in rookie drafts. Now he backs up Edge. Bad situation, bad #4 pick. Easy to say in hindsight maybe, but there were warning signs.

I obviously can't say Norwood is the next Arrington but I don't have a good feeling.

I would personally take Calhoun (and Drew) over Norwood. And depending on how the Droughns/Green/Suggs thing plays out, I'll be watching Harrison closely in Cleveland too.

Sorry, just babbling to kill time til Bloom gets here...

I am interested in updates on:

Kellen Clemons

Tavarius Jackson

Lenoard Pope

Joe Klopenstein

Brian Calhoun

Ernie Simms

Chad Greenway

Brandon Marshall

Interested to hear about Brad Smith's transition to WR

Is that you Booby? How ya doing?

I have heard some good stuff about Smith so far, it looks like his transition is going well. I can't seem to find any links quick.

I have heard less from the other QB converts; McNeil and Robinson.

(Rotoworld) WR Brad Smith drew praise for his work at the Jets' final minicamp.Impact: Smith started slow in May but seems to have turned it around. CBs Derrick Strait and Drew Coleman looked good, as did fourth-round RB Leon Washington.

Jets | B. Smith impressive

(KFFL) Dave Hutchinson, of the Star-Ledger, New York Jets rookie WR Brad Smith has been impressive at minicamp. Sun Jun 18 11:45:00 a.m. CT 2006

Jets | Clemens most impressive quarterback at minicamp

Published Sun Jun 18 11:40:00 a.m. CT 2006

(KFFL) Dave Hutchinson, of the Star-Ledger, reports New York Jets rookie QB Kellen Clemens was the most impressive of the team's four quarterbacks at minicamp, outperforming veteran QBs Chad Pennington, Patrick Ramsey and Brooks Bollinger. Clemens displayed an exceptional arm, moxie and the leadership ability of a veteran. He has what people describe as "it." Whether rookie head coach Eric Mangini is prepared to go with a rookie QB is a different question. He has plenty of time and the backing of general manager Mike Tannenbaum and owner Woody Johnson, and it will be interesting to see what he does. "Each guy is missing some things that you'd like them to see, and some guys are making some throws that you're really happy with," Mangini said. "This is just that period where they're getting used to the offense." Bollinger will battle Ramsey for a roster spot.

Jets | L. Washington quietly has good minicamp

(KFFL) Dave Hutchinson, of the Star-Ledger, New York Jets rookie RB Leon Washington quietly had a good minicamp for the team. Sun Jun 18 11:48:00 a.m. CT 2006

Browns | Harrison catches eye of coaching staff

Published Sun Jun 18 2:10:00 p.m. CT 2006

(KFFL) Steve Doerschuk, of the Canton Repository, reports Cleveland Browns RB Jerome Harrison has caught the eye of head coach Romeo Crennel during minicamp. "He and (undrafted rookie) Chris Barclay are similar...quick and explosive. They seem to run away from people."

Falcons | Norwood makes headway toward No. 2 running back job

Published Sun Jun 18 8:47:00 p.m. CT 2006

(KFFL) Steve Wyche, of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, reports Atlanta Falcons RB Jerious Norwood has made headway toward replacing RB T.J. Duckett as the team's No. 2 running back. Aside from athleticism, Norwood's adaptation to the offense could keep Duckett on the trading block. Norwood has improved on his ability to pickup the blitz and receiving skills.

Just a few from KFFL.

Leon Washington is another interesting longshot. Blaylock and Houston ahead of him, not to mention the ageless CMart. But I'll be watching and hoping to hear more on him.

All of the reports about Clemens are overwhelmingly positive, although Croyle has also been getting positive buzz and is ahead of Casey Printers in the QB of the future battle in KC. Clemens is closer to taking over but Croyle would be taking over the better offense. Clemens is more likely to get a starting stint, but Croyle has more upside. I would go with Clemens, but its close.

Nance is an interesting case - he's caught their eye so far, and they don't have anyone else like him on the roster. He's over the injury that cut short his post season workouts. Good buzz about him so far.Baskett was sought by the Eagles, and McMullen (the player they gave up for him) has been solid in the Vikes minicamp, lining up in the slot. He has the same thing going for him as Nance - the Eagles don't have another big physical jumpball getter like Baskett, plus he loves special teams. I think he can make it as the 5th or 6th WR if he can beat out Darnerian McCants.

I am having trouble finding news on Colston. Im seeing him listed as a TE, but I don't see him having a good body type for the transition. I liked him a lot better as a WR. One guy I am seeing a ton of good news on in NOLA is Mike Hass.

Moore has been pretty much dead to me for a while, the burst was not there in the postseason, and clearly it hasn't come back.

Henderson is another guy that I haven't heard much about positive or negative. He'll have to beat out Wendell Mathis just to get a look as the 5th RB - and they may not carry 5. I think he might be better if he ends up with another franchise. He may end up on the practice squad.

I would go with Clemens, but its close.
I'm pretty sure I read something contradictory. I'm not sure of the accuracy. I just looked around for it and cannot find it. But... I read Printers is ahead of Croyle as far as picking up the offense and having some professional experience. He also has better overall tools and has made a positive impression. The follow up analysis of that report, which was just one man speculating, suggested that Printers will likely be in a battle for #2 with Huard, while Croyle is handed #3 regardless. Should Huard lose the battle with Printers, he'd be gone. Should Printers lose, he'd be practice squad. But both Huard and Printers have a better shot of backing up Green in 06 than Croyle. Anybody Chief homers/Green owners following this closely? I own Green and would like to keep on top of it. I'm getting the feeling Printers is way under the radar and pretty talented.

DonTrell Moore has been cut by the Jets.

Jets | D. Moore waived

Fri, 9 Jun 2006 18:21:17 -0700

The New York Jets have waived rookie free agent RB DonTrell Moore.

As stated Smith is getting positive reports. The Jets seem to be making an extra effort to motivate him into the transition. He was a little more stubborn than Robinson or McNeil about being a QB. I think he's a good QB too. Robinson was drafted as an RB. He's looked good by all accounts.

Weeks ago there was a good report on Reggie McNeal "getting it" and embracing WR. With his crazy speed/size ratio and Chris Henry's interesting off season, McNeal is getting more interesting, but there's been nothing reported for a long time as far as I know.

im wondering about De'Arrius Howard rb kansas city. i took a chance on him in the last round of my rookie draft. who knows what Priest is gonna do? how is he doing in camp, will he make the team, where will he be ranked in the KC rb hirearchy with and with out priest?

Jeff Webb

DJ Shockley

Josh Stamers

Omar Gaither

Freddie Kaiaho

Spencer Toone

Marcus Maxey

Jared Page (possibly going to MLB???)

Nick Eason (switching to DE?)

Frostee Rucker (other than getting arrested?)

Complete silence. Well, Herm in regard to his WR4...
“On the 53-man roster, the way it shakes out, you’ll probably going to keep four guys and you’ll probably keep a couple practice squad guys. There’s a fourth receiver who really needs to shake loose and be the guy. There’s about three or four guys in competition for that, which is good. You can justify some things right now and take a look at guys who we all know look really good in shorts, but when the pads come on all of a sudden you start getting hit and the guys that maybe aren’t as athletic show up a little bit more. At the end, I’ve always said that we are going to keep the best 53 players and that’s what we get to evaluate when the preseason starts.”

More silence. Derrick Ross was also brought in very late for a tryout. He impressed enough for Herm to pull him aside during practice and tell him he was signing him. The only thing I have read about Howard is that he was worked at both RB and FB in the first mini-camp.

Ill admit that I based that on a report from the May minicamp, that Croyle was more impressive as a passer, Printers more impressive as an athlete, and both pretty impressive overall in terms not seeming lost in their minicamp, but emphasis on Croyle being the better pure passer. I havent reading anything since except that the team is happy with both.

Norwood - he should be given Dunn's role next year, and could make Duckett expendable as early as this year.
FBG projections have Norwood ranked as the 118th RB for 2K6, behind the likes of Obafemi Ayanbadejo, Jim Finn, Terrelle Smith, Daimon Shelton, Dan Kreider, and Leonard Weaver. ???Seems a bit low

Scanlon - lit up NFLE, but stuck behind Kawika Mitchell. Definitely a guy to run to the waiver wire for if Mitchell gets hurt.
I saw Kawika missed some time due to a sore back or "tightness" and Scanlon did well. Has Kawika missed much time? Also at Chiefs.com there's a handful of mentions of Croyle and Printers and they each seem to be better one day. I'd guess you and CC were right it was just a different day. It also seems in an effort to limit how much Green plays and keep his arm fresh that he and Huard are alternating work with the first team.

Bloom, there are a couple of guys that I haven't heard much about lately. Any thing about Riggs Jr. in Miami? Also, what about Travis Wilson in Cleveland?

Thanks

guys i was hit by car last weekend along with 4 others and i am in the middle of recuperation. i ll continue to update my rankings and get a 100 update out when time warrants, but ive got a long road of recovery ahead. thanks for the interest.

Browns :: WR, TE

WR Jurevicius Likely Browns' Go-To-Guy?

Steve Doerschuk, Canton Repository, Sporting News - [Full Article]

TE Kellen Winslow (knee) likely will be ready for exhibition games, but WR Braylon Edwards (knee) likely won't. While Edwards is out, WR Joe Jurevicius likely will be the go-to guy. WR Frisman Jackson could move into the No. 2 role ahead of WR Dennis Northcutt during Edwards' absence. Third-round pick WR Travis Wilson may struggle to get significant playing time. LINK

Take care!

Oh for pete' sake. He broke his hand and got a few scratches. Big deal. Terrible excuse for his lack of information. We need a rookie update!
