Bobby Engram, DJ Hackett, or both (1 Viewer)

Edit: I intended this post to be something different than a personal question. I have re-worded it.

The Seahawks have a very favorable schedule coming up. They play Cleveland, San Fran, St. Louis, and Arizona (through week 14). Granted Hackett is healthy, is Bobby Engram still as valuable or is Hackett the one to own? DJ Hackett was projected to be the starter and the #1 receiver at the beginning of the season. However, Engram has been posting very solid numbers and seems to be Hassleback's favorite target.

Which Seattle wide receiver has more value on a roster at this point? I ask this because it does not look like Deion Branch is going to play, as Holgren has now said he is 50/50 on playing. This now makes the Hackett/Engram question legit because one will be the number one guy.

Oddly enough, you did post this same question in the ACF. link

Yet you still took the time to post it here too meaning you understood the rules, but blatantly ignored them. Nice.

I apologize. I wanted this to be more NFL talk than a personal question. This forum is for "Player Discussion and General Strategy Discussion." One of these guys could be a great player to have on a roster for the next six weeks. I want to discuss the two players. That was the discussion I was looking for. Possibly a few Seahawk homers to chime in on whether Hackett was really the real deal or not. Everyone is saying that he is a sleeper and he should be picked up, but what has he proven? Is he even going to be healthy to be a number one WR? I admit, I picked the guy in my draft, but it was a late pick. Rosters are tight now, though. Is he really that good? Bobby Engram on the other hand has proven himself to be a steady target and a consistent scorer (fantasy-wise).

Yeah. I don't buy it.Any one of the other Seattle receiver threads would have been fine. I understand, you wanted some input. Don't try to rationalize it. You did it. You got called on it. Deal with it.

And the "Serious Business" posts of the day award goes to...

While this thread probably could have been worded better, sorting through the numerous SEA WR threads can be tedious, especially with the invariable pissing contests.

FWIW, Hackett was not the #1 WR to start the season. That was Branch.

Hackett is still a bit of an unknown quantity because he's got a limited body of work. At the end of last season, he posted some very good games when DJax was hurt so expectations were raised for him.

Hasselbeck has been throwing the ball to Engram longer than any other WR on the roster, so he's got a comfort zone there. Engram is more of a natural "slot" WR and with the Seahawks running so many 3 WR sets, he's got a certain amount of value, moreso in PPR leagues.

If Branch, Hackett and Engram are all healthy, I see Branch getting the biggest piece of the pie and Engram being a steady "possession" type receiver who would be more valuable in PPR leagues.

Hackett can be the guy who provides a lot of vertical big plays and his size makes him a better redzone target than the other WR's on the Seahawks roster. Because of the injuries, I think Engram will lead the team in receptions, followed closely by Branch. Hackett's got an outside chance of leading the team in TD's, though.

Engram gets his touches no matter who starts. I like him as a solid, consistent WR3 type of guy.

Maybe Hackett has more potential for a monster game, but I think at the end of the season Engram will have a higher points-per-game average.

I agree my response was harsh. I can understand "I apologize" when someone does something wrong and they weren't sure about their actions, but that doesn't apply in this case. He knew what he was doing and didn't care. :lmao:

Alright, I think it is time to move on. I was sincerely apologetic. I did not intend to break the rules. I just want the low down on the Seahawk wide receiver situation because I feel it could be important. You are correct; there are other threads that discuss the Hawks receivers. However, I did not post in there for two reasons:

1. They are a bit long and tedious.

2. Most of them discuss whether Branch and/or Hackett is going to play. My discussion was ASSUMING Hackett would play, and whether Engram would retain the role he had in the past 5-8 weeks.

All of the ranking websites and start-em/sit-ems have Hackett and Engram very close to each other. I can't see how that is possible, looking at the numbers Engram is posting and then looking at the stats Hackett posted last year (as that is all we can really go by at this point).

Which one do you like better this week?

I am really tending to lean toward Engram, but that is against what everyone is saying. They have Hackett to be this great receiver, whereas, we really have not seen that. Even in his last three games last year, he was not anything great. His stats in those games were:

8-87-0

3-37-0

4-63-1

I guess I am looking for a reason as to why people are promoting Hackett so much and putting Engram back on the back burner after his solid play lately.

I've been a lurker in these forums for about 4 years or so and one thing I never understood was why people get their panties in a bunch when someone posts something in the wrong forum. If you don't like the question, so be it. Just ignore it and carry on.

With that said, I like Engram better than Hackett for the remainder of this year. Hackett is hype that might amount to something when given a chance, Engram is something when given a chance. But with Branch coming back soon, both of their numbers will take a hit.

are you afraid the innernet is going to run out of room and we have to be vigilant in conserving our precious thread space? If you think a thread is questionable, report it and let JB & co. deal with it. That's their job.

Sorry to go off topic, but who do you think I am?
I think he may have been just making a friendly joke about your user name. I am not sure either, though. Nevertheless, thank you for the response. I agree with you, as well as your point about Branch coming back. It does not look like Branch will be back this week though, so Engram and Hackett may see a big day (especially with Burleson in the dog house).

Well, the thread has pretty much been hijacked, but I think it is a legitimate question and I actually had the exact same one myself.

In my non-PPR league I ended up dropping Engram for Hackett. Engram has put up some nice numbers with Branch and Hackett out, but I think his value only goes down with them returning. He's a decent play in PPR, but I guess I'm leaning toward the big play, big game potential of Hackett.

Is hackett supposed to be a big play guy though?

Also, why is there all the animosity? First with Enforcer, and now with TommyGilmore. I assure you that I have one user name, and it is this one. If you do not believe me, ask a moderator to check the IP addresses of both mine and the other poster. I guarantee you they are not the same. I did not even know what Statler and Waldorf were until you drew notice to it. I had to google it because at first I thought you were making a joke about the actual name.

I would really just like to move on though and get back on topic. There seems to be some interest in this but it is getting lost with all of the nonsense criticism and BS.

Not a big play guy, going by his stats. He has 74 career receptions, only 4 of 40+ yards.Btw, I'm starting him this week as long as Branch is out.

Hey Little Big Head, where did you read that? I would love to read it. I really want to play a Seahawk in this game and all of the info available would be great.

Since he calls himself the "enforcer", I guess he goes to every thread and tries to enforce ... something. He is an idiot and don't pay any attention to him. He seems to inserts himself into any and every thread.

He's a fellow Seahawks fan and has some decent points at times but his delivery is worse than mine and I even have him on ignore because of a scrap we got into pretty much the first time I read anything from him.

There are a few "self appointed" mods here - Enforcer seems to be one. To me it depends on what you are looking for. Engram is Engram, very consistent not a lot of upside. To me he is sort of like Mason - will get you 5 or 6 catches for 60-70 yds and an occasional TD. Hackett, IMHO, has a much larger upside but could also do very little. He has only a small sample of work so far. I took Hackett as a WR5 since to me that is a place where I would rather gamble than have an Engram type guy. Guess I'm saying - if you can take a chance - Hackett is as good a guy as any at this point in the season. I am all over him for this weeks game vs CLEV.Good Luck

Short term, meaning this week. I like Engram. Since hackett has been out for a while I like to see a player go for a week before I count on him. Long term-IE the rest of the year I think Hackett should be the better fantasy player.Once branch is back Engrams role will shrink quite a bit.

Regardless this is a great matchup for seattle so if your in need of a wr, either one is probably worth playing. The browns def is bad.No pass Ruch and the secondary has undrperformed this year.

Engram will still have a lot of value in ppr even when both Branch and Hackett are back. He's almost guaranteed 6-8 receptions a game 50-80 yards and a td every 2-3 games.

Okay. :lmao: Every thread? Pretty sure I've posted in nothing but Seattle related threads. I think. I can't think of even one non-Seattle related thread that I've posted in.

The OP started the exact same thread in the ACF and the Shark Pool. Beauty of a copy and paste job. I expressed my opinion and even agreed I was being harsh. Thread was reported, but the mods ignored it. Seemed an open and shut case. I guess I was wrong. No sweat.

By the way, the pic in my avatar is an old poster of Kenny Easley. It was labeled "Enforcer" across the top of it. Had one on my wall when I was a kid.

You can toss out last year since he was sick most of it. And all of those years are with DJax in the fold and an effective SA. Now that Engram is the vet that knows the system best, as well as being the only constant so far this year, he'll have a better year than before. He'll get a lot of 8-12 yard 1st downs. And no matter what position he's lined up at this year Hass has been targeting him more in the end zone than previously. He's Hass' favorite target and if Hackett/Branch are covered he'll seek out Engram more and more. That's his security blanket. I realize there's no past stat basis for it, but if you've watched themt his year he's being used mare this year than in the past.

from rotoworldWR D.J. Hackett continues to shine in practice and is looking likely to start for the Seahawks in Week 9.

"So it's full speed ahead," Holmgren said. "We'll just practice him and play him and he's part of the rotation right away and it's as though hopefully he never was hurt." Hackett has a great matchup and is a strong WR3 going up against the Browns this week.

I guess it's possible that his numbers could increase with the return of hackett and branch. But so far on the year he is averaging just under 5 rec and about 70 yds per game. thats 34 rec and 468 on the season with 2 td. That does come out to a pretty nice 13.8 avg. per rec. though.I personally just have a hard time seeing how his numbers will stay as good as they are or even grow as the other wr's get healthy. Since we don't many seattle games over here in OH. I'm pretty stats oriented regarding west coast teams.
