The Hardline

Footballguy
This guy had almost 1150 yards last year (only 6 TDs) but only broke 100 yards twice. Branch is hurt and his return timeframe is anyone's guess. Hackett is in Carolina now and no play Nate is the only other WR on the roster that might steal touches. Yeah he has some years on him but not a lot of miles.

Is this guy a safe #3/4 WR or is he just a waste of time? Have a chance to get him for next to nothing in an salary/contract league and thinking of his potential over the next 2 years.

What does TSP have to say about this guy?

I don't see what you have to lose . . .

TSP?Engram is a solid player, but his numbers were more of a product of opportunity than the team feeding him the ball. If Branch and Hackett had stayed healthy last season in Seattle Engram wouldn't have had anywhere near the production he posted. The only way Engram sees the same sort of targets is if injuries abound again. Yes, Branch is going to start the season possibly being hurt, but I seriously doubt they head into the season starting Engram at flanker and Burleson at split end. Perhaps Taylor and/or Obomanu? Perhaps the starter is not yet on the roster? Time will tell.Short version: Engram has very little chance to produce those numbers again.

Engram is who Hasselbeck feels the most comfortable with, He always knows where he is, when plays break down Engram is the one he looks to. With the injuries and inexperience at WR I think Engram could match last years numbers.

Is it possible? You bet, but I guarantee you its not the intention of the coaching staff for that to happen again. Turning this into a probability exercise might be fun. A 34 year old receiver has his career best season due to opportunities garnered by injuries to both starting receivers in year X. What is the probability that the 35 year old receiver produces equivalent numbers in year X+1?Possible? Certainly. Likely? Doubtful. Not sure I could put a percentage on it.

I like him as WR4 in fantasy. I don't think he will come close to matching those numbers but could still have a solid year. I just traded a 2009 5th for him in a salary/contract dynasty.

this guy needs more discussion. i tend to agree that his numbers were more a product of injuries to other Seattle WRs. but 94/1147/6? that's pretty damn good. If Branch isn't ready, is Engram in the flanker spot or is he relegated to the slot? his ADP is in the late 8th round right now.

Holding out is not helping his prognosis any. BTW, he waited the longest of any WR to have his first 1000 yard receiving season . . . in his 12th year.

Haven't looked at ADP's in a while but last I checked he was falling to the 8th/9th round, I have him ranked as WR23 which makes him likely the best bargain available in redrafts. Branch is hurt (he tore his ACL in January, I'd be surprised if he is not PUP'd), Burleson is simply not that good, and there's a lot of unproven talent to weed out in camp. As another poster indicated Hass is most comfortable with Engram, as long as Engram is healthy he will get his, especially in PPR. One of those unproven guys are probably going to emerge from the muck but from what I've read they'd dig into Burleson's PT primarily, not Engram.

Engram will play flanker in 2 WR sets and move to the slot in 3 WR sets, Burleson will split time with __A__ at SE because he's simply not that great of a WR and Seattle really likes him in the return game, __B__ will play flanker in 3 WR sets. I think Courtney has the best chance at being __B__, but __A__ is really up for grabs. Could be Jordan Kent, could be Obomanu. I doubt it will be Payne, who almost seems like he's being groomed to be the heir apparent to Engram (he's learning all WR positions), but he's my favorite of the four. I think the loser of the Obomanu-Kent battle's is the one most likely to get cut.

I'd be thrilled to land Engram as my #3, just be sure to add an upside WR you like that could be setup for a solid 2nd half as we don't know what will happen to Seattle's passing game once Branch returns...if Engram even stays healthy.

These are not question marks at all. There are injuries at WR already. I highly doubt Branch will be able to significantly contribute at any point in the season. Burleson and Engram are the only 2 vet WRs on the roster. They will be 1,2 when the season begins. Behind them they have a bunch of unproven guys that WILL NOT beat out either of them. There is also no way they sign someone that could come in and start which makes your question of "perhaps the starter is not yet on the roster", pretty useless. The only question is if he will holdout. Outside of that I see no reason he cant have another very good season.

I'm not so sure this should be assumed. The coaching staff is rather pleased with these unproven guys and thinks that they may have a solid player in atleast one of them.

Shorter counter: BS. ;) Seriously, who's going to stop him? Branch, who I trust to stay healthy/productive about as much as I trust the weather reports? I don't think so. IMO Engram is a great WR4 or even 3, esp in PPR. Very cheap, serious upside.

Which I consider mostly irrelevant to the situation now, frankly.
engram has never had good back-to-back seasons.
If by "good" you mean big numbers, he's never really been WR1...ie I also pretty much give this a "so what."

;) Coachspeak. Every coach loves every player on the team this time of year.

Engram held out? How much do you think they fined him? My guess is that he's hasn't been fined a dime yet. Yet.

by good, i mean 500 yards ;)

This can be assumed. If and when Engram decides to come back, he will be handed a starting position along with Burleson. No young WR is going to outperform them especially with Hass' confidence in Engram and growing with Burleson.

I really like him as a #3/#4 option. Last season, he caught a surreal 70.1% of his targets! That's insane and likely won't be repeated but Hasselbeck has to have confidence in him coming into this season and will likely look to him often starting opposite Burleson.

in ppr redraft leagues hes a bargain value right now imo. In deep dynasty leagues I also like the potential value of C.Taylor or B.Obamanu as I think one of them emerge to be productive this season

He is a Very good #3 WR. IN a PPR he is a solid #2WR. If you could get him, why not? Matt H likes him and that all you need to know.
