Bobby Petrino resigns (1 Viewer)

Wondering what ya'll think Petrino's resignation could mean for guys like Demorrio Williams, Stephen Nicholas, Jamaal Anderson, or any other Falcon IDP?

Obviously who they bring in will change some things, just stirring up some talk. I haven't watched Atlanta as much as I would have liked, and missed out on much of the game Monday Night, but it seems to me Anderson would be better suited, in terms of taking advantage of his strenths, lining up in a higher gap technique than he does. I'm not up on the gap/technique thing like Dr Jean, correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems Anderson is being used in a 4 or 5 most, if not all of the time. Why not get him out there in a 6, 7, 8 and turn him loose?

With the Williams/Nicholas situation, under Petrino all things pointed to Nicholas in '08. How likely is this to change?

No way to tell until the coaching staff turns over. I don't see them doing anything differently this year, Zimmer will call the shots on defense. I don't remember what Zimmer did with his ends in Dallas before Parcells moved to the 4-3. I'll look at the tape, but I think the Falcons still use a NT/UT alignment up the middle, so Anderson would need to be in a more narrow alignment. He's not a speed rusher anyway, so I don't know that a wider technique or moving him to the open end would be a big help.

Jean everything I read, or maybe I should say most everything, commented on his edge rushing ability, burst/speed off the corner and such. I understand he's more of a bull rusher, but from the SR, he can come off the edge. I'm new to messing with D-Lineman, very green and obviously have alot to learn. I don't think Atlanta is doin him any favors.

I don't expect things to change this season, I was talking more down the road.

I'm always concerned when a new guy comes in and drafts his own players, what that can do to players from the old regime. It definatley cools me down some on Nicholas.

I haven't seen too many reports that suggest his burst is more than an average skill. He does have excellent straight line speed for a big man (4.75 at 290ish), but that doesn't necessarily translate to edge rushing ability. I haven't seen enough of him to expect that he's more Peppers than say Hali/Jenkins. Either way, though, I agree that his usage/performance has been very disappointing. We're probably saying the same thing in two different ways, as I don't think either of us are arguing that Anderson is a Jared Allen, Dwight Freeney type edge rusher. I think we're both probably thinking about a Strahan/Kampman type -- guys I wouldn't necessarily refer to as "edge" rushers.
