booting owner mid-season (1 Viewer)

I had to kick an owner out today because he has not paid his $150 league fee. This is a team 10 dynasty league in it 3rd year. He sent it to me about week 2 but it bounced. I have emailed him many times asking to resend it but he has not responded. Also I noticed he has not managing him team the past 2 weeks.

I was just wonder if any of you other commissioners have done this.

If so I was wondering who managed that team till you found a replacement owner?

I have asked a guy from another league I run to manage it for me(just set the line up each week) till I find a replacement owner.

MID-SEASON?

Here's a clue for pay leagues: NO PAY, NO PLAY. Not at all. Not even draft. Nothing. Pay in full or you don't play. Just that simple.

I'll take over your team tonightif we can work out the logistics.Let me know if you need another guy to step in.I'll pay immediately, and I'm extremely active.s@dataz.com

Same here... No pay, no play.. If I don't get payment 2 weeks before the draft.. then I look for replacement, there are plenty of owners looking to play in good leagues during the pre-season...

Whats the team and rules.. I might be interested..

Had to replace an owner myself today. Slightly different issues, but your doing the right thing. There are always owners ready to take over mid season.

this guy as a good friend of another owner. This is a league of good friends and family.

Our league rules allows the player immediately above the "dead" team's opponent in the standings to set the lineup each week until a new owner can be found. They have the most to gain by giving the active owner a loss.

So if the dead team is playing the 3rd place team, the second place team gets to set the lineup that week for the dead team.

If the dead team happens to be playing the 1st place team, the 2nd place team in the standings picks the lineup for the dead team.

Eliminates any question of conflict by the commish if that team is playing him.

Never had to use the rule, but it is our bylaws.

This does not add up. You don't want to have to make people pay up at the beginning of the season beacuase it's a friends and family league, but then you boot him in the 7th week because of no pay. :loco:

This is the answer.

all paid on drafted day. He was not at the draft and mailed me a check about week 2. It bounced. I have emailed him about this and asked him to mail me another check but he has not responded to me in 3 weeks

Had a similar problem in our league. We booted him also. We have co-commishs in our league. This way if I am not available, the other guy can take over. We already have gotten a replacement owner, but he cant start until next week. In our case, I set the team for this week. It had 3 players on byes. If I would have been playing against the team, we would have had the co-commish set the team. This arrangement works well for our league, because someone is always available and any problems can be discussed. how are you going to manage the team till you find a replacement?
Had 1 already.

people here(in general) don't understand the local friends league dynamic and are too used to WWW leagues. The idea of seeing them at christmas, thanksgiving, and/or at a local bar every weekend is foreign to alot of people that come here.

Go talk to him, don't burn any bridges because of FF. If he's not done waivers+lineup for 2 weeks you know what his answer will be. Just give him that chance to tell ya, wish him well, and walk away.

Odd that he hasn't responded at all.

Well if you need someone to take over his team I can do it, at least just to set his lineups for him.

Its going to be hard to find someone to cough up the money mid season.

He's got an auction up for the squad in the Dating Game forum

Sorry to hear that fsu. I imagine it would suck to be put in that spot as the commish, but dumping the guy is what's best for the league. I think the best suggestion is to do like Bri said and keep it civil. The "no pay, no play" thing will be easy for you to add to the rules for next season now that everyone in your league has seen it come to this. Hope you find a good replacement.

Also had to boot and owner yesterday, however in a none $ yahoo league so not as big of a deal. It isn't a random league however, it is a bunch of guys on a racing board I hang out on that also like football. Owner just quit managing 2 weeks ago, claims he is too busy but he got a TO on the board for some post and one of the mods is in our league so I think he is just pissed. Surprisingly I played him last week and he beat me with Brady on a bye because he had Mark Clayton and Reggie Brown in the lineup from bye week a couple weeks ago and I was starting McNair because of a bye week.

Any way, I set his lineup this week using the FBG cheatsheets and will continue until we get a replacement owner.

Does anyone know on Yahoo can you transfer ownership of a team ?

This is used as the "default" lineup in a league I'm in, for abandoned teams, til a new owner can be found. Its the best way I can think of to prevent the problems associated with this issue.

what is the record of this team? I'm also in a friendly league, and i have noticed in the last few years its hard to get people to pay up. Some people didnt even pay until after the season was over. As this commish this year(we have a rotating commish), I instituted the no pay no pay policy, and it worked out great.

Our league of 8 years had to let go of an inaugural member this year too for the same reason. We got strict on league dues 2 years ago when another member blew off his fees. We have a fairly high cash payout to the league winner, so to be stiffed the dues was a tough thing for us.

We stressed no pay no play at our live draft and he kept saying, "I'll get you the money next week." So we kept bending. Well, we never got the money, so we dismissed him pre week 6.

Our league is pretty popular amongst our group's extensive circle of friends. As such, we have a waiting list. It was real easy to get the next person in line to buy the franchise and take over. She had been on the waiting list for 4 years. It is also the first female owner our league has known.

She named the team "Hostile Takeover".
