Bowles getting a 2nd interview in Detroit (1 Viewer)

Ministry of Pain

Footballguy
For those that do not know him, he is the Miami Dolphins DB Coach, and while that is not really a DC spot he did make the most of what Miami had. They basically went with what they had left over from the year before, got a few guys back from injury...but you have to like what he is saying. This guy knows what it takes to get it turned around.

He was part of Cleveland and the turnaround to get them to 10-6 2 seasons ago, help turn Miami from 1-15 to 11-5, and he preaches about changing the culture.

Lions fans...what say you?

not a lion fan per se but follow team close being a local and all.

Neither him or schwartz would be who I want but Shanahan isnt coming.

I think bowles has some ties with Mayhew I think they played together.

I thought he was on Butch Davis's staff and not the Romeo staff at cleveland? I could be wrong.

How big of a hand did Bowles have in turning the Fins around? To me a I'd rather have someone with DC experience

Lions fan. Want Jim Scwartz. Badly.
+1.I think Lions fans have had their fill of hiring a "position coach who is asst head coach" without coordinator experience. But, Bowles didn't talk incessently about pad levels, fits and believing in the invisible, so he may be alright. Ironically enough, he did speak about changing the culture which is the very thing that dim Rod always preached.Regardless, I want Schwartz.

Also a Lions fan. The LAST thing that I want is for the Lions to hire some buddy of Mayhew's. The Lions have too much of a history of hiring guys that the owner is friends with or are related to the head coach, etc. The Lions need to show their fans that they are doing things differently, and hiring some position coach who used to play with the GM is totally the wrong way to go right now.

I'm really hoping for Schwartz or Spags.

If I were a Lions fan it just wouldn't sit well with me that the guy's unit that he coached wasn't even elite. I could see if he had made All Pro's out of previous scrubs or something, but the Miami secondary was not a world beater this year. Maybe he'd come in and surround himself with good coordinators, but that is not what I'd want to be banking on as a fan.

+2Nothing against Bowles, but Marinelli had no coordinator experience either and it came back to haunt him.

Scwartz

Ask Fouts or Marino if Offense can win the Superbowl. And then ask Trent Dilfer the same question.

Which one of the 3 has a ring?

Lets do us some old school defense.

But does he comes with Haynesworth?

Peace

I agree with this. I remember them together from the Redskins' secondary on Tecmo Super Bowl.I mean, if Bowles really is the best candidate, great, hire him. But he doesn't appear to be. If he gets hired, it won't look good.

It's the Lions - it probably can't look good. The best coach they've had since the merger is probably Wayne Fontes - and he's not highly regarded. I actually think Fontes gets a raw deal in that regard.

Bowles played safety and Mayhew played CB for Gibbs' Redskins teams in the late 80's and early 90's. They won a Super Bowl together. Neither was a star, but both made plays and 'Skins fans have fond memories of them, FWIW.

:lmao: I think he's the logical choice. The rebuilding of the Lions will start with defense. I think Schwartz can be the leader that accomplishes that!
I am a little concerned, I heard that Pioli has already contacted Schwartz for an interview.
According to ProFootballTalk, they hate each other:

DON’T COUNT ON SCHWARTZ-PIOLI PAIRING

Posted by Mike Florio on January 13, 2009, 8:43 p.m. EST

In response to a suggestion in some circles that new Chiefs G.M. Scott Pioli might pursue Titans defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz to become the new head coach of the team, a league source tells us that it will not be happening.

Per the source, Pioli and Schwartz “despise each other.”

Though Schwartz looks to be the favorite for the Lions job, his camp could be floating the possibility of Kansas City hiring Schwartz in order to squeeze Detroit into hiring him prematurely and/or giving him a better deal.

That said, it’s our understanding that the Chiefs are not and will not be an option for him.

What's the background on this?
