Boycotting fast food from now on (1 Viewer)

Give me one solid reason to keep eating fast food and not go vegetarian/organic. I can't think of a reason to eat a big Mac or at Five Guys. Am I wrong for wanting to go cold turkey on Burger King?

It's cheap and tasty?

Look, I'm not advocating for it, but I think my above statement is true.

The only way to keep your health is to eat what you don't want, drink what you don't like, and do what you'd rather not. - Mark Twain

What is fast food?  Anywhere that you dont get a waiter?

If you consider Chick-fil-A fast food and you are avoiding it, I'm sorry for you.

Otherwise carry on, but be advised Applebees and Olive Garden is fast food too.  :bye:

I'd always rather give my money to local places that make good food with local ingredients. Just go local.

Why do you have to do both?  Skip fast food but keep meat and eggs, they are good for you.
Exactly - plus you can go organic without going vegetarian and vice versa.

Who knew eating healthy would be so complicated?

(As an aberdabei - just read an article yday about the body's ability to produce omega 3 and 6 from vegetable matter. It's a genetic change and in Europe the people from the Mediterranean area have it in spades but the further North you go the rarer it is; e.g. the Inuit of Greenland rarely have it. Only European examples so if your family did not originate there I don't have any real info...)

I'm sure you can find some middle ground between here....you know, like actually cooking a meal with fresh ingredients at home.....no?

I got news for you, if you are eating that much fast food that you need to quit it cold turkey, I can imagine becoming a vegetarian is 1000x harder.

Stop eating out

Grow your own garden

Raise your own chicken

Move to the country

Avoid electronics

Iow, go Amish

I've wanted to kick it for a year or so.  But too many nights my kids have practices or events that prevent a nice home cooked meal.  Three kids who are into three different sports/events after hours make it tough.  We rely on fast food at least once or twice a week.

This is my take on it: I have zero f*cks to give about what you choose to eat or not eat. Just do it and don't try justifying it to me. I'll not be following your lead.

How was your Egg McMuffin this morning?

Does chinese food count as fast food?   How about a chicken parm sandwich from the pizza parlor?
I've always assume do that the fast food label was reserved for places like Taco Bell, Burger King, Pizza Hut, etc., and that your local pizza parlor, Chinese or Indian restaurant are not in that same category.

A lot of restaraunt food is less healthy than fast food (except for a few cities where healthy food sells).

Where I live, the "lite" options on a menu always include a chicken finger salad with cheese and blue cheese dressing.

I saw a "healthy" section of a menu once and they meant the portions were "healthy sized" meaning very large.

Haven't had a lunch or dinner at fast food in ages, but McDonald's egg mcmuffin and the chick-fil-a breakfast is very good for the price. I can't even lie. I wouldn't want to give either of those up.

Somebody has to ask, so I might as well: What makes this a boycott?  What are you protesting or who are you punishing (besides yourself)?  Wouldn't it make more sense to just avoid unhealthy food rather engage in a boycott?

:smoo:

Already has been said but cheap and tasty is a pretty good combo.

That said I very rarely indulge these days (pretty much just when on road trips with the family eating in the car). As I got older I realized my body wasn't able to take regular doses of fast food without negative consequences. My fighting weight when younger hoovered right at 200 and I didn't monitor my FF intake. Now older I'm at 220 and eat much less FF. Makes me wonder how much more I'd weigh if I hadn't made that choice.

I don't think it necessarily has to be an all or nothing decision.   Not all fast food is terrible and not all Organic/vegetarian is healthy--you just have to be selective in what you order.  I have a buddy that is vegetarian for religious purposes--and while he eats plenty of salad--he also eats lots of pasta, rice, and vegetarian Indian food that happens to be very oily. He's very out of shape--even though his "consumption" profile wouldn't necessarily look that way.   Another example-there is some sort of Acai bowl place next to the store that I manage--and it's always packed with people every morning.  Their bowls are all organic and they are very pricey--but when I saw their menu--I was shocked at how many calories and how many grams of sugar are in each bowl. It'd seriously be more healthy to eat an egg mcmuffin instead.

The only time I have had fast food in the last 10-12 years is if I am traveling and forced to.  Even then I try to hot Chick-Filet as they have some decent options.

Can`t remember the last time I had a Big Mac or Whopper with a large fry.

I've been leaning away from burgers & fried chicken and more into sandwich shops and Mexican. Still not exactly healthy, but the fried food quotient is down.

I read a great article in the times the other day that more or less said 'why did it become acceptable in society to put known carcinogens in your body'  and that the mantra of 'moderation' doesn't apply to carcinogens

It became acceptable about the time that every food other than rice cakes was labelled a carcinogen by one study or another.
