Braces vs. Insiviline (1 Viewer)

My stepson is going to be getting braces or inivisline in the next few months. I've heard pros and cons for both. The cost difference is a little over $1,000 difference, but that isn't going to be the determing factor. I'd appreciate anyone that has experience with either option letting me know which option they think is best and why.

Was just talking to my wife about this last night. She said "isn't there a Dentist among your Football friends you could ask" agingdentist:.My son is 11 and his dentist only uses Invisiline. Beyond the concern of him losing the Invisiline things, was wondering if there are any other factors that would make braces a better choice?

I'm actually looking to get braces or Invisiline soon because of a meandering tooth in my old age. Definitely hoping the latter is a viable option as I don't relish the prospect of wearing braces for the second time in my life.

It would be great if his dad wanted to pay for everything, but we're splitting the costs.

I know the inivisiline seems to be a better option. Inivisiline would allow him to eat pretty much everything he does now, regular braces limit the diet somewhat. No broken brackets or wires to replace, but the inivisiline is more expensive to replace if he loses it.

I'm not sure if one type is better than the other for long term straightness of his teeth. I've heard they can keep the invisiline and use it down the road if it's needed. I've heard people with regular braces need to wear a retainer for years (forever???) after.

Any information you guys can provide would be appreciated.

All i can tell you is that the orthodontists put braces on their own kids and the children of staff members that we refer.

I only have two patients now using invisalign, one case is going poorly due to patient compliance issues, and the other one just didn't look as good as i was hoping for.

All my 3 kids got braces and have perfect teeth. My wife and I both are using Invisalign now - about 8 months in. It's slow going. The first few trays work well and then you get on the 3rd set of a series and they don't sit perfectly. So they then have to do the impressions again (I've had to do it twice). Granted, I only wear my Invasilign at night for about 10 hours (my dentist knew this). If you're religious about it I'm sure you'll get better results. I see movement but it's a process. Doc swears we will get there, but I don't know. Wish I could wear them more, but I talk all day for a living and I just can't talk well with them in.

I'm sure braces are a surer bet. If I had to do it over again I would get clear braces and just tough it out for 2 years.

I wish it were that easy. One of my step-daughters had her Dad promise to pay for braces, and then when he found out how much it was he told her "No Way", leaving her in tears and looking at me. Hello, monthly braces payment

I had invisilign as an adult. I thought it was great because it's not obvious that I'm wearing it. It only became a slight issue when I had to talk and ended up with a slight lisp, noticable only to people I am close too. I would be concerned about the kid losing the trays. You take them off to eat and if you aren't careful, you could throw them away. If she is responsible, I would say they are great.

i say that i haven't yet seen great results and i've heard that orthodontists try to talk you out of it and that adults tell me it's a pain in teh butt. although to disclose full conflict of interest on orthodontists parts... their profit margin is substantially lower on invialign due to the costs of the proprietary productthat's all

Do you believe you had the same outcome as if you would have had braces? Teeth perfectly straight? If so I feel a lot better. I have a great dentist, and he's committed to it, but I just haven't seen it yet. I know it's a process, and you to create spacing first, but I'm becoming a bit pessimistic.

I'd say braces for kids and invisiline for adults. My wife used invisiline a few years ago and had good results. I just wouldn't trust a child to wear them when they should and to not lose them.

Yes, great results. I had a gap in my front two teeth and some of my bottom teeth were crooked. I had them for 6 months and my teeth look perfect. I think your problem is that you don't wear them often enough. I wore mine all day and night except for when I ate. If you really want the results, you've gotta commit to the program. My understanding is that your teeth will try to revert to their original positions and you are giving them too much time to do so. I still wear mine every night while I sleep.

I'm getting these invisalign thingies next week. I had braces as a kid and my teeth have moved some. They aren't horrible, but my bite is a little off and it bugs me. As long as my bite gets straightened out, I'm fine with the results.

I needed something I could take out for big meetings and presentations and these seem perfect for that.

I'm thinking I will try taking a pic of my teeth every day in the AM and splice them all together when I'm done to see the progress. Might be fun.

Update - almost there. Doc went to a more pliable plastic and it helped a lot. I just finished 19 of 19 trays. Bite is perfect, teeth almost perfectly straight but still not there. Took more impressions and will be back on the program in 4 weeks. It's taken a LOT longer than I anticipated, but at the end of the day still glad I did it. As for pictures Kutta, I'll never forget when I questioned my dentist on how much my teeth were really moving and he pulled up my before pictures on this EMR system and compared it to the present. Huge difference. Would be cool for you to see but may not see much with just the bite

When we went to the orthodontist for my son (a year and a half ago now), he said it comes down to this - braces are better for children because they're not dependent on the person being good with wearing them.

I've had my Invisalign for a couple weeks now and they are great. Most people don't even know I am wearing them, but even if they do, I don't mind. They don't hurt much at all, and my teeth are already moving the right direction.

The only pain is taking them out to eat, but it's not that big of a deal. Overall I'm really happy with them.
