If the same personnel are on the field for the whole game, essentially...I think what we're seeing is a failure to adjust to halftime adjustments made by the other teams and poor play calling. I think the Pats need new coordinators. Technically, there isn't an official O coordinator. Think they need one.

Following consecutive losses for the first time since midway through the 2006 season, Patriots QB Tom Brady has come as close as he ever has to calling out his teammates.

The Patriots fell 22-21 to the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, and at 7-5, their lead in the AFC East over the Dolphins and Jets was shaved to one game. During his postgame comments, Brady called out his teammates after watching the Patriots lose leads of 14-0 and 21-10, saying “at times I don’t think we fight very hard.”

Brady had an opportunity to back off that comment Monday. He didn’t. During his weekly appearance on WEEI, Brady said the Patriots need more commitment in their preparation.

“I’ve been here 10 years, and I’ve seen a lot of players and teams,” Brady said on The Dennis and Callahan Show. “It starts on Monday in our preparation. It starts on Wednesday through five hours of meetings and walk-thrus that we do, and practice [and] film study. I think when it gets hard, that’s when you have to dig deep. At times, we do that. And other times, it doesn’t show up.

“We’ve all got to do a better job of that. We’ve all got to put more work in and put more time in and put more commitment into each other. It’s a different team. We have a lot of new players. We’re trying, over the course of the season, learn each other and learn things we do well and things we don’t do so well. And that takes a lot of commitment. I have a lot of confidence in our team, and I have a lot of confidence that we do play tough, and we do play physical, and we do play smart … I just don’t think — as coach would say, and he says this to us all the time — we don’t do it on a consistent basis.”

He trid to be PC about it, but he clearly is blaming others, saying they're not working hard enough. Guess it's their fault he threw that INT, right? How about just saying "I made a bad throw" then shut up and lead by example.

I think you couldn't be more wrong. I don't like Brady. But come on, he is right, the team is not as dedicated and focused as past teams. What is wrong with him stating that? He is calling people out, as he is the leader. Magic Johnson and Larry Bird used to do the same thing and they lead their teams to several championships each. Winners know what it takes to win, and when you don't see people taking it as serious as they should it upsets you.

I agree with what you say in premise, but come on. The Pats lost on an INT that Brady threw... not due to a lack of commitment, or hard work, or anything else. They lost because Brady threw an INT instead of a TD. Why not address that, instead of saying the whole team is uncommitted blah blah blah. Leadership is owning up to your own mistakes. Instead Brady is blaming the entire team.And if this was a non-issue, why does NFL.com have it on their home page?

You are spot on. The biggest problem with the team right now is Dean Pees and Bill O'Brien. Pees insists on sticking with the 4 man line even though they get absolutely no pass rush. Any blitz he does call is a delayed blitz which never gets to the QB. O'Brien has no originality in his play calling. His short yardage play calls are the worst I have ever seen. He either refuses or is inept to changing his game plan when it falters. Throw Scott O'Brien the special teams coach in the mix as well. They get nothing out of kick off returns and their kickoff coverage is horrid. I expect an overhaul with the coaches in the off-season.

So I was kinda excited to read what he had said.

But he was right. Their defense needs to be better prepared and to make some plays.

I thought it was fine. And I still sort of hate him, just not for this.

It's a motivational tactic for sure. But he is calling out the new arrivals and young kids. That he is smart enough to say WE instead of THEY doesn't change that.

Its not something that I would say in a leadership role. Talking about how the team doesn't fight very hard at times, or critical comments like that, really don't do much good. He sounds frustrated and possibly a bit unsure how he would coach the team to get better results, which is fine since he isn't a coach, anyway.

My personal leadership style is a bit in the mold of Teddy Roosevelt. "Speak softly and carry a big stick." As a leader, stay positive and keep everyone focused on the task at hand. Provide a clear plan on how to proceed. If someone isn't getting it, you can just bench him or rotate him out. But it really shouldn't come to that if done correctly.

There's talk in the sports reporting world up here that the influx of younger players has brought with it a bit of a culture shift. The guys who led the charge attitude wise aren't here anymore and some of the younger guys might need to work on the work ethic a bit.

By saying WE, with any luck, the whole team reevaluated their efforts -- and that includes the coaches, IMO.

If you're going to accuse me of something, you might want to have something valid to accuse me of. Do yourself a favor, next to each topic it lists the number of posts, if you click on that number you'll see how many times someone posted in the thread. I clearly haven't run and hidden from anything.

I still think Brady needs to put the onus more on himself. But I know this board is full of pathetic Pat fans (even if they're in the closet) who would do whatever Brady wanted of them, and feel the need to defend him over every little thing. And maybe I took his comments differently than others would, but if we all thought the exact same about everything, then this board would be meaningless.

Well, I've seen the post game interviews, but not everyone has access to every Dennis and Calahan interview to know what he says in them. But, once again, NFL.com had it on their front page, and in their article, which I quoted, in which was written:

Those aren't my words. So NFL.com felt in the post game interview and in his D&C interview he was calling out his teammates. Guess NFL.com just hates the Patriots too.Bottom line, after Brady's performance, he shouldnt' have been saying ANYTHING about his teammates.
