Bragging, venting, crowing, grieving... (1 Viewer)

I would never be a part of any league that allowed lineups to be switched after the kickoff.  Terrible.
Yeah, that's post-betting. Allowed nowhere from a gambling perspective. If it's in your league rules that if approved/cleared a change can be made that's one thing. But if this was a favor that's not in your league rules as permitted I'd simply never play in the league again.

I made two crucial lineup mistakes that cost me 46 points (posted up thread, nobody cares, and I don't want to relive it again   ).  My opponent made two excellent changes on Sunday morning - he switched out PHI for MIN (+22) and replaced J. Thomas with G. Celek (+12). So with my stupidity and his brilliance his net gain was 80 freakin points - ridiculous.  And with all that I was down "only" 33.7 points with Freeman left to go and my opponent was done.  Freeman ended up with 30.4 and I barely lost.  However, Freeman fumbled the ball, literally at the 1/2 yard line when we was otherwise going to waltz into the EZ.  That crucial 1/2 yard cost me the 6 points and the epic MNF comeback for the ages.   I've never lost by a 1/2 yard before - this game is so stupid sometimes - why do we torture ourselves?

14 team PPR IDP league - I'm the 1 seed and total pts champ, despite losing Dalvin Cook (my RB1), and this week in the semis I ran into Gurley, Hunt, and Cam.   Wilson let me down bigtime, but I still had a shot with Julio last night.  Needed 21 pts out of him, so I figure a 5/100/1 line out of him was reasonable since he absolutely torched Tampa a couple weeks ago.   But no, we can't have nice things.  Julio goes 3/53 and my playoff hopes are done.

Meanwhile on the other side of the bracket, Team X is advancing to the finals.  We've all got a Team X.  He autodrafted at the start of the year, made maybe 6 roster moves during the season, avoided injury to every starting player, slips in as the 5/6 seed in the playoffs, and his opponents  underperform against him in the playoffs and put him into the finals.  Makes me seriously question all the effort I put in, when clearly minimal effort gets you to the finals.

Like they say, better to be lucky than good.

It has gotten even worse.  Turns out we did not have a rule in place - I assumed it was higher seed wins.  Commish just sent out an e-mail to the league saying he is waiting until Wednesday to see if any additional scoring corrections will be made before HE has to decide how to handle the tie.  I responded I don't care how they handle it, but I will not play two teams next week - they need to decide how to break the tie and I suggest a league vote since the playoff tie breaker rule is not defined.  The only way the Commish wins is if he goes higher seed advances.  His bench score is worse, his regular season head to head is worse, his remove highest offensive player and highest defensive player is worse....yet somehow I think he will wind up deciding in his own favor without a league vote.  This is a league in its 25th year - first time we have ever had a playoff tie.  His opponent is PISSED, had he not put in Barber it would not be a tie and if it winds up tied after Wednesday the honorable thing would be to cede the victory...we shall see.  Either way I am in the finals, just don't know who I am playing.  Chance for BACK-TO-BACK!

ETA - looking like they are leaning all three teams in the finals.  I said BS, I am guaranteed at least 2nd place money - so sweeten the pot for me if you are going to make stuff up.  If I win I get 1st and 2nd place money, if I lose even to both teams I get 2nd place money regardless.  No way they will go for that, but why should I have to beat two teams in one week to win the championship especially with the extenuating circumstances.

The higher seed should move on in a playoff tie. It is simple and sensible.

If there is other nonsense going on, like a lineup being altered after games started, then that would need to be considered. Something like that shouldn't happen in the first place, though.

In a Yahoo public fantasy baseball league in 2015 I was the 1 seed. I did not lose in the playoffs but I did not even get to play in the title matchup. Huh?

I tied in semi-finals 5-5 and Yahoo used regular season head-to-head matchups to determine who advanced. My opponent went 10-9-1 against me in the regular season. That should be a tiebreaker to break a tie for seeding if teams finish the regular season with the same record. Only a buffoon would find that a sensible way to break a playoff tie.

Imagine if the NFL broke playoff ties like that?

Chiefs play at the Patriots in the Divisional Round. The score is tied 23-23 at the end of regulation. Okay, that's it. Chiefs beat the Patriots in the regular season. They move on to the AFC Championship Game.

I would suggest this:

* You play both teams in the finals. If you beat EITHER of them, you're the champ. Since either could have been "the one" who won the made-up tiebreaker, you shouldn't be punished because they couldn't figure it out. And you're not at any disadvantage because if you lose to both, it doesn't matter who would have won the tiebreaker. Either would have beaten you.

* If you lose to both, the one with the most points is the champ. They should be okay with it because they could have lost whatever tiebreaker the league made up and they'd have no shot at the title. This way you're not punished, everyone has a chance (even the teams that didn't actually win their game) and nobody has to quit the league in anger. Then you fix this in the offseason.

I think that's the fairest way to go forward. You don't get punished and they still have a shot at winning the whole thing. But you have a better shot  -- which you deserve because you actually won your game.

I think that's okay for everyone and the league can remain intact with no hard feelings. Good luck.

I had a tie this week (as stated above) and lost the yahoo hth tiebreak. Someone had suggested the three team playoff and I said it wasn’t fair to the other team that won. It’s not really fair to the guy that’s playing for 3rd place $$ either. Coin flip seems more fair- I’ve accepted the hth tiebreaker because we are playing by yahoo rules, but in a league where there is no language pertaining to tiebreaks (especially if it goes down as a tie in the reg season) then a coin flip is really the only fair thing imo, then you vote on a rule. Unless it’s a home League, then I suggest a foot race, nothing like two grown out of shape men trying to beat each other in the 1/4 mile.

Perhaps if they both want to play for first, you should be guaranteed 2nd and 3rd place money, and they can go for all or nothing. And if you win they get 2nd and 3rd (unless maybe the 4th team in the equation outscores one of them, then getting 3rd). That’s probably the fairest way to involve all the teams.

Great response - I proposed this to the Commissioner with the full understanding that we would actually put in a playoff tiebreaker going forward.  We'll see if he goes for it, but it makes the most sense of anything I have thought of yet due to the extenuating circumstances.

18 year fantasy vet with multiple championships here.

Rookie mistake in semi finals cost me a chance at another championship. Ertz was out week 14, so I picked up Henry. BUT forgot Chargers played Saturday night in week 15, so Henry got locked in and got around 3 points. Ertz got, I think 15 points. I lost by 4. SMH.

Last week tied the higher seed at 165-165 (ties to to the higher seed) so was praying for stat corrections to help me out.

good news- I got 3 pts in stat corrections

bad news - he got 3 points as well!

:violin: :topcat: :ptts:

So the Commish is using this idea for this year and will institute a league voted upon playoff tiebreaker beginning next year.  I have to beat one of the two teams I am facing to win the Championship and even if I lose to both I get 2nd place money.  Good thing - my matchups are BRUTAL this week.  Commish team projected at 95, my team 86, the other team 84.  Would not be surprised at all if I lose to both.  Still a good season at 11-2 regular season and at worst 2-1 in the playoffs.

Had the Ravens D, Thielen and L Murray going today.  Thought I’d be getting 50+ points...have 18.  Not a good start

I like that Thielen saves his worst 2 games for the playoffs

Take away from this game if it is cold as hell and one of the teams is terrible, don't play a high volume wr from the other team.  Freaking Thielen.

Had Ravens def, mkinnon, flacco, and Tucker going yesterday.  Tucker and flacco were better than average but were leveled off by underperforming Ravens def and mkinnon.  How does mkinnon only get 9 touches?  He looked great every time he touched the ball too.

Ravens def dropped 4 ints by my count.  Ugh

I made 5 out of 8 league finals and am going to go 0-5. Ughh that is a killer. I even have Gurley on one team. Unbelievable.

Oh and the league I got upset and beat my gurley team in the semis.  I of course out scored everyone by 50 today

After the early games - I am at 101.5 and counting; the two other teams are projected at 75.0 and 62.5 - hoping for some late points on Monday night with Ertz and Mack so I can beat the other teams combined score....now that would be poetic justice.  If I hold on it will be back to back and I will be the only 4 time champ in 25 year league history (one of the guys I am beating is currently tied with me having 3 championships).  This one feels better than any of the other three - this one was way more roster management as opposed to having a unbeatable team of studs.

Disappointed in my lowest score of the season. Started Brate over Ebron, Lambo over Gano, and Chicago over Arizona DEF/ST, all of which were last minute moves.

I'd be more than right in the think of it if not for that.  That's about twenty-five points with Bell and JuJu left to go.

FMDecision-making.

Lamented starting L. Murray over Cooks and Dez Bryant, while benching Vikes last minute all last night, what a difference a day makes after salvaging defensive points with Bears and Dez and Cooks had down days compared to their averages

6 leagues:

4 Playoff berths, 2 byes.

3 Total Points prizes.

3 Championship games.

3 Championship wins!

Over $800 in winnings

Pretty damn good year. :ptts:

I've been more casual the last several years getting through grad school and residency.

Tried to get uptodate but wasn't as ready as I would have liked

3 Leagues this year

An ESPN Public that is doing week 16-17 championship round--I'm looking like I'll be up 15-20 after this week

Yahoo Dynasty--Started out Bell and Gurley and an all-around disappointing draft after that.  But Gurley gonna Gurley.  Barring a monster outing from Ben tonight, I'll take home the gold

A cash league with the same guys:  Lost in the first round of the playoffs.  Zeke's suspension hurt a great start.

Worst decisions made ever by me this week in championship money game:

Started Ravens, sat Chicago

Started Woods, sat Mike Evans/Dede Westbrook

Started Olsen, sat Jimmy G

Started Collins, sat Yeldon (who knew anyways)

Up by 4 points, I have Lamar Miller left, he has Foles and J Elliott. Monster Lamar Miller game needed.

Last year I repeated in my dynasty league, appearing in my 7th championship game in the 11 year history of the league and took home my 5th ring. This year I was the one seed and high points but got bounced in the first round. Won this weekend and took home 3rd. Disappointed because I've been so spoiled with good luck for so long.

Joined a work league redraft last year and somehow won it with a mediocre team. This year I started out 0-6, probably my worst start ever. Kept battling and finished 7-6 and snagged a playoff spot. Won 2 more games to advance to the title game and had a very poor showing. 2nd place after being 0-6 ain't bad I guess.

Time for a little break from all the waiver wire and WTFDIS quandaries.

Happy holidays to everyone. May 2018 bring you everything you hope for.

Just won the Championship on the last defensive fumble recovery/defensive td by the eagles d. Was down by 5 going into the last play. Won by 3. Insane sequence of events but I will take it.

After losing AB, Burkhead and Zuerlein last week, I basically waiver wired half my offense this week but managed to walk away with the Championship.

It's my 2nd title in the 3 years I have been in this league

Woo!

Won in the first league and it wasn't close 116.0 - 74.0 - 72.5...might have been the biggest blowout in 25 year league history.

Only solace in losing in the other league was I lost by 5, and even if I had started Dede Westbrook over Jonathan Stewart at flex it would have been a tie instead of a 5 point loss.  So I maximized my lineup except at FLEX so no head scratching or what ifs.

Still 1st in one and second in the other will bring home $750, not bad for a hobby that I enjoy.

4 LEAGUES

3 TEAMS MADE THE PLAYOFFS. (not a bye anywhere)

ALL 3 TEAMS MADE THE FINALS/CHAMPIONSHIPS.

2 CHAMPIONSHIP WINS, AND ONE 2ND PLACE CASH.

OVER $2,300  in winnings and side bets I capitalized on.

*BEST FANTASY ACCOMPLISHMENT*  winning one particular 10 teamer, for the 4th consecutive year in a row. The best part of this is, in this league my opponent was sitting on a 15-0 perfect season record going into today. Nice to knock off the only "Holy Grail/perfect record" season we have ever had in all our leagues.

This is why we do this.

 TZM

#5 seed (Gurley owner) won with the high score each week of the three playoff rounds. I got smoked in the semis after leading the league in points (#2 seed.) Today the #1 seed (12-2, league 10 game winning steak - 5 previous 9 game WS) got clobbered. All good, dude got hot when he needed to. I enjoyed this year more than any I can remember in the last 10-12 years. Did my best, too blessed to be stressed.

Managed to make it into the playoffs thanks to some solid WW picks, who underperformed when I needed them most. Lost by three in the championship. Don't think I'll ever get past it or will ever win again until I figure out the best system for minimizing dumb luck... because I don't seem to have any.

Losing by 5.4, I'm just thinking about all the ways I could have won: Julio's catch with two feet in the end zone is called a TD, the illegal pick is called on Gurley's first TD, Butker makes the 48-yard FG attempt with 2 minutes left, Bell gets the TD on 1st-and-goal from the 1 rather than the FB.
