BREAKING: Giants will release RB Brandon Jacobs today, per a source. Sides couldn't come to a financial agreement. Blog coming. #nyg

Another 30 year old vet RB who overvalues his worth and will get his wake up call over the next month. Happens every year.

I just added Ware (age 27) in 3 leagues. Bradshaw won't be toting the rock 320 times. It could be D Scott instead helping out, but I think it'll be Ware or someone not yet on the roster.

i really hope they give Da'Rel a shot... he's got the wheels to be special imo.ETA:

@AdamSchefter And now, Brandon Jacobs officially has been released. One more free agent running back.
When Jacobs missed 2 games, then Bradshaw missed 4 games, Ware got the leftover carries (only between 3 and 9 carries per game). http://subscribers.footballguys.com/teams/teampage-nyg-4.php

Scott only had 3 carries on the season. Could have been due to rookie status though.

With Bradshaw's always iffy foot, the #2 NYG guy could end up with some value.

agreed. it will be interesting to see what happens in the next few weeks with FA and the draft. if they don't make any huge moves for RB it will be pretty telling.

Id love to see them get one of the bigger backs in this draft. Turbin would be really nice.

Anyone have Jacobs short yardage stats? Seemed like he got stuffed alot. Looked more effective when he caught a swing pass or go into some space rather than going between the tackles.

BenJarvis Green-Ellis would fit very nicely into Jacobs role and probablly not cost too much...

The Giants need to utilize Scott. Kid has a ton of potential. I'm not super high on Ware but I really don't think he's any worse than Jacobs.

I'd be okay with this as well.
I wouldn't!
Well he wouldn't be my first choice. But if he could be had cheap he'd be a good FA pickup. He could be COP back, and can carry the load if Bradshaw's foot bothers him. He doesn't fumble and he doesn't need to be electric (Scott can be that if Bradshaw misses time). That said I'd rather them address this in the draft

As would I. I think Bradshaw/Ware/Scott are fine and wouldn't mind a late draft rookie RB pickup. No reason to waste any cap space on an aging free agent while we have these three guys that already know the system.

They took a look at Rashaad Slowley.Andre Brown had a great camp, he could get in the mix too.I hope they don't settle on Ware as the #2 he stinks.Good to see Jacobs gone for all the money he was getting. He forgot he was supposed to be like Bettis.

Paul SchwartzAlso In New York SportsBrandon Jacobs, released today, just told me it came down to $500,000 difference in what he wanted and what the Giants were willing to pay him.

Aging. Green-Ellis turns 27 this year and has very little wear. I can think of other reasons but this is not one of them.

Bump Bradshaw. Hello goal line touches, goodbye to the TD vulture.
On one end of the spectrum, I see this similarly and think it will be a nice boost for Bradshaw. On the other end of that spectrum, I worry that NYG could bring in another RB that could be better than Jacobs is at this point, and possibly cut further into Bradshaw’s fantasy production than what Jacobs would have during the next year or two.

So benson, Jacobs and bjge all rotate spots? Mike bush is a lock for Cincinnati, so that opens up another spot. Then there's hillis and Tolbert, lots of plodders on the market.

Love seeing Jacobs gone! The Giants don't have the cap to sign Bush, Tolbert or BJE though, they are going to address this in the draft is my guess.

I don't see the Giants signing the likes of Tolbert, Law Firm or Bush. None of them likely come at a price thats significantly cheaper than what the Giants and Jacobs were negotiating. GMen likely draft another back but the players currently on the depth chart are the best bets at this point to pick up the scraps. Odds are that Ware gets the first shot to be the #2 but hopefully Scott beats him out.

I would be trying to move Bradshaw in dynasty to someone thinking like you.

I think I'd be buying from guys like you. Will be fun to see what happens, but I've watched Bradshaw and he's a heck of a player.
The concern is how will his feet hold up. That doesn't seem to be a problem that will go away, only managed. So far no surgeries this off-season, but he is getting a noninvasive procedure done, seems like an injection. Bradshaw will probably be limited to 15-17 touches a game and he won't see that many on a regular basis if the team run blocks like it did last season. Should make for a good flex or RB3, at best a low RB2.

A heck of a player with a long standing history of not being able to hold up an entire season couple with a long standing history of his coaches openly saying they don't want him to be a 300+ carry back. THe Giants will likely bring in someone similar or draft someone and, to me, that makes Bradshaw riskier; not safer because now he isn't the clearly better YOUNGER back of the tandem; he's likely now going to be the older veteran back with the injury history.

I think Bush is far better than Jacobs and worth the $4M that Jacobs was going to make.

Bad feet and on the 32nd rush offense. I expect the Giants rush offense to get better, like around the low 20's next season. I think Bradshaw at best gets about 1,000 combined yards and should continue to stay in the 10 TD range. The loss of Jacobs should prevent Bradshaw's TDs from declining as he gets older.

Yes, but they aren't going to designate 4 mil to that spot.

Scott is the add here long term, not Ware.
The long term add isn't on the roster. Both Ware and Scott are just guys. Scott was a 7th rounder for a reason. This board's man love for him is just weird.

Scott has one attribute most other "just guys" don't have and that's breathtaking speed. Whether or not he's a track star is the question.

Yeah, that's what I hear on this board constantly since before the draft. It's possible he's the next starter -- anybody is possible -- but the odds are very steep against him.

He has amazing speed. The concern is that he may not have the lateral moves to earn him more time. Despite a 4.34 40, he was still a 7th round draft pick and that was when Al Davis was still alive. I'd love it if he's a future stud, but the truth is as it stands now, he's not even a lock to make the roster in 2012.
