Brandon Jacobs week 14 Thread (1 Viewer)

"The Giants plan for Brandon Jacobs to return in Week 14.

Jacobs has sat out the last two games with a hamstring strain, but did some light work in practice last week. Coach Tom Coughlin says the plan all along was for Jacobs to miss two weeks, then return for an intradivision game against the Eagles. Philadelphia's run defense is ranked ninth in the NFL. Dec. 3 - 1:55 pm et"

Derrick ward himself says jacobs will play next week.....

"Maybe I can pull a T.O.," said Ward, referring to wide receiver Terrell Owens, who rehabbed a fractured fibula suffered on Dec. 19, 2004, and returned to catch nine passes for the Eagles in Super Bowl XXXIX. "But we have a bunch of running backs. Brandon Jacobs will be back this week (from a hamstring injury), Reuben Droughns has proven himself and Ahmad (Bradshaw) has proven himself."

:yucky:

Even if Jacobs returns is Droughns a good flex play since he is a goal line back? Or is it risky to use him during FF Playoffs?

Another piece from ESPN: In his Monday news conference, coach Tom Coughlin admitted Derrick Ward has a fractured fibula and likely is done for the season. The running back won't need surgery, but he'll need several weeks to heal. So Ward shatters a career high with 154 rushing yards versus the Bears, and now he's gone. On the plus side, Brandon Jacobs (hamstring) will return in Week 14, and Coughlin said he was scheduled to return anyway. …

so Jacobs is due back this week and should go down again by the 3rd quarter right? Guy is as fragile as they come...

I'm using him over Edge this week. I figure he's good for a TD or two regardless. That and are we sure that Jacobs is back or is this coach speak? Need to see if Jacobs practices all week or not....

Derrick Ward placed on IR Derrick Ward, RB NYGNews: The New York Giants placed leading rusher Derrick Ward on injured reserve Tuesday, two days after Ward broke his left leg against the Chicago Bears in Week 13. Ward suffered the injury with about eight minutes to go in the fourth quarter of New York's 21-16 win. He was tackled by Brian Urlacher and Anthony Adams, who landed on the back of his leg. He suffered a fracture of the fibula, the thinner of the two bones that connects the knee and ankle. Opening day starter Brandon Jacobs, who has rushed for 599 yards, is expected to play Sunday against Philadelphia after missing two games with a hamstring injury.Analysis: Ward is a safe drop from all seasonal Fantasy rosters at this time, though he could end up as a low-end No. 3 Fantasy RB in 2008 league play. His season ends with 602 rush yards, 26 receiving yards and four total touchdowns.

This is bad news, the two of them provide a very good running game. Hope jacobs can stay healthy with Rubens help..

The news went from bad to worse for the Giants this morning as the team found out that Derrick Ward, the latest jockey in the Giants’ RB merry-go-round, has suffered a broken bone in his left fibula. And though head coach Tom Coughlin stopped short of saying that Ward’s season was over Monday morning, this injury typically takes months to heal, even though surgery doesn’t appear to be necessary. The team has been without Brandon Jacobs, who has missed parts of the past three games after pulling his hamstring against the Lions.

The PFW spin

Jacobs is expected to play Sunday against Philadelphia, but there was a thought he’d play this week against the Bears. Still, Coughlin seemed optimistic this morning. “If Jacobs can come back and play and play through the end of the season without other injury, we're in good shape,” Coughlin said. “We’ve had four ballcarriers, with three involved every week. I think we’d be OK if Jacobs can come back and stay on the field.”

If not, the job would go to Reuben Droughns, whose high carry total for the season in a game is 15 in the loss to the Vikings two weeks ago, and Ahmad Bradshaw, the change-of-pace rookie who has a total of five carries, all in the past two weeks. That’s not to say that Droughns isn’t capable of a workload for a game or two — he has four 30-carry games in his career and has done well this season as the short-yardage guy. But the Eagles pose a tough run defense and held the Giants to 88 yards on 24 handoffs in the first meeting with Ward and without Jacobs. Droughns ran five times for eight yards in the game.

The Giants are 8-4 and are probably one win from locking up a playoff bid. But so much is hanging in the balance. With QB Eli Manning’s play changing like the wind each week and with more strain put on a defense that has done a great job keeping the team in the race, a solid run game would be a big lift down the stretch as the weather gets colder. The good news is that the line has run-blocked well most of the season. But having Jacobs would make the RB chain of command a far more stable group.

Our fantasy take

Best to play it day by day. Even if Jacobs plays, he’s about a C-plus option against the Eagles, although slightly better if DT Brodrick Bunkley can’t play. The Giants would love to get physical and run the ball 35 times. The game plan was to bury the Bears with the run — partly because it was the smart plan against a smaller front and partly because Manning has been so shaky of late. Jacobs would help tremendously. Droughns is what he is. Don’t overvalue him or Bradshaw, who might flash but won’t star.

Jacobs won't push injury

Brandon Jacobs, RB NYG

News: Giants RB Brandon Jacobs is scheduled to return Week 14 at Philadelphia after missing two games with a hamstring injury, but has been limited in practice. On Wednesday, he sounded less than eager to risk coming back too early. In addition to saying he "felt very good" about his chances of playing, Jacobs sounded a cautionary note. "I'm not going to push myself as much as I can because it's a hamstring and you never know with those," he said. "I'm going to take care of it the way I need to. You come back too soon and you could hurt it more and be out for the next four weeks. I'm just going to take my time and do as much as I can do." Veteran Reuben Droughns would likely start if Jacobs can't go.

Analysis: The Giants had to fill a huge hole when all-time leading rusher Tiki Barber retired after last season. Yet even with the injuries to Derrick Ward (leg, IR) and Jacobs, New York has rushed for 1,530 yards through 12 games, sixth-best in the NFL. Jacobs has accounted for 599 of those yards in seven games, but has missed a total of five games because of a hamstring and knee injury. If healthy and active against the Eagles, he is nothing more than a low-end No. 2 Fantasy RB. The fact that he doesn't sound confident that he is 100 percent coupled with the Eagles having a top 10 run defense, the matchup doesn't appear favorable for Jacobs.

Jacobs is soft, His team needs him and he pulls the "I don't want to rush back to help my team because I'm made of glass and will get hurt again"

Disappointing when your team is fighting for a playoff spot. I could see it if Ward was healthy. But given he is on IR, hard to agree with the attitude right now.

I think we can expect Jacobs to play about half of his games the rest of his career, I don't know id he's injury prone or just a big wuss but I probably wouldn't draft him again in any league.

Brandon Jacobs described his Wednesday practice as "very limited."

"Why would I rush back when we've got a seven-year veteran that can do the job?" Jacobs said. "I'm only in my third year. I don't want to risk the rest of my career." Still, Jacobs said that he felt "very good" about his chances of playing this weekend. We should know more after today's practice.

Wow, the more he talks, the less I care for him.

I can SORT OF understand where he's coming from... especially since he hasn't yet gotten a big pay day:http://asp.usatoday.com/sports/football/nf...amp;player=3801

but if he doesn't get his ### out there and play his heart out when he's "broke"... how hungry will he be if he ever gets paid? (which we may never know if he doesn't go out of his way to impress).

and "very good" doesn't sound that optimistic

Coming back from a hamstring has nothing to do with toughness. Especially when your team essentially has a WC spot wrapped up already.

As a Giants homer, I would LOVE to see Ahmad Bradshaw get 20 - 25 carries one of these games. The kid can play

Brandon Jacobs (hamstring) is listed as probable to play against the Eagles on Sunday. He practiced without restrictions on Friday.

Jacobs has a solid matchup and doesn't have Derrick Ward to worry about any longer, so he's a borderline RB1 play against Philadelphia. Backup Reuben Droughns is only a minor threat as a short-yardage option.

"Practiced w/out resrictions"... that sounds pretty good

What a wuss. Never should of drafted him......
Jacobs is a bandaid, but he's not a wuss. One of the reasons he gets hurt so much is because he isn't a wuss, he needs to learn how to avoid contact in some situations. There are times in short yardage where he needs to use his physicality, but not all the time. I dont think theres many players who like to tackle that "wuss".If Jacobs can get 25 carries, expect 120 yards and 1 or 2 tds.

Not going to risk it this week. I got Fargas so I'll give him a go against the Pack. Luckily for me, this weeks game is pretty meaningless. If it weren't and if Iit was the underdog, I'd likely play Jacobs because his upside has the potential to be huge if he can stay in the game. He's kind of a high risk, high reward guy this Sunday.

There are whispers around the Giants that perhaps RB Brandon Jacobs isn’t quite as durable as people thought he would be. It might not be a matter of toughness, but Jacobs’ statements before the Week 14 game against the Eagles suggested that perhaps he was playing it very cautiously in his return from a hamstring injury :lmao:

Constantly pulls himself out of games, his team needs him to make the playoffs but he considers sitting the game out this week instead of saying "you need me, I'm in!".......take a page from Westbrook who's half your size you big Wuss!!

I really want to see more of Bradshaw. Hopefully he is learning the things rookies need to learn, like blocking and the playbook, because with Ward out the team needs him to step up. Relying on Droughns is not a good idea and the Giants obviously need someone to spell Jacobs.

I too am looking to see what Bradshaw can do. Sounds like he has many of the qualities that Emmit Smith had as far as footwork and toughness. I have him on my dynasty roster waiting for him to get a chance.

Thanks for your valuable and insightful inputs.

So how good of start is jacobs now that he it looks as though he will play tomorrow? Is he a better start than guys like fred taylor or chestor taylor or other rbbc type of backfields? What do you think his numbers will look like and is it worth the risk?

I think with Ward out, he's good for about 100 yards and no TDs (Giants seem to look elsewhere when they get in close)...Anyone know if Bunkley [Eagles' DT] will be playing 100% or not?Depending if Bunkley plays and is at 100% could swing my guess to between 80-120 yards...

Per ESPN a little while ago he is 90% likely to go... it was the comment that he has to convince the trainers he is ready to go that is making me nervous.

This thread ought to be pinned.

ESPN just showed a shot of Jacobs warming up. He was running fluidly, and ran an in route and caught a pass.

Doesn't mean he'll get 100 and a TD, but hey, he's not getting last minute treatment in the locker room.

What did I read into it? I said he ran, then caught a pass. I also said he wasn't in the locker room. I just posted what was shown. In fact, I said it doesn't mean he'll get 100 and a TD.If you read something into what I wrote, then so be it.P.S. Rachael Nichols just confirmed he was testing his hamstring and coaches said he will go. Read into that what you wish.

He's 90% to play, not 90% healthy. If he's not 100% with that hammy they'll sit him because 90% hammy get pulled right away. I want to hear the final word on his status before game time.
