100% sure? Of course not. I do find it funny that you chose to highlight Jacobs catching the ball however, as he averaged something like 10 catches a season over his career. He doesn't have very good hands, think Micheal Turner.
He's not a good short yardage back. Never has been.Who gets the GL carries this week in Denver? Does Scott get a crack or will Jacobs step in immediately for that duty?
They could line him up in punt formation, have Eli be in the shotgun, and have him take three steps backward and hand it off to Jacobs. By the time Jacobs got to the line of scrimmage he'd be doing 5 miles an hour. He's not a good short yardage back. Never has been.Who gets the GL carries this week in Denver? He's big, runs a bit upright, and needs a head of steam.
It's interesting he's in football shape, yeah, but the general consensus is that there has to be something legitimately wrong with McGahee if he hasn't found a home yet; a healthy McGahee wins out every time IMO. McKnight is also more of a COP back, not something NYG was in the market for I'm assuming.I imagine he would be hard to stop on 4th and 1 when he's 60 years old. There has to be some TDs coming his way as a vulture.
At whatever age he is now, I assume he can play FB in a pinch.
He was always faster than most thought and more productive per carry than most noticed. He was a hard worker and he and Ward were battlers behind Tiki. A while after Jacobs started and got some fame, he began shooting his mouth off about almost anything. I imagine this was a serious concern for the Giants. There's no way they want a mouthy veteran around their young backs, but if he's back to working hard...that'll work. His quotes are proper and all making me hope he is back to the old self again.
It's interesting he kept in shape and looked better than McKnight and McGahee.
Knees have to be kept in shape all the time when they've had significant work done on them. They just get all sore and there's like an instant decline if ya don't keep at it. I wonder about McGahee and how much rest he's had. It's interesting he's in football shape, yeah, but the general consensus is that there has to be something legitimately wrong with McGahee if he hasn't found a home yet; a healthy McGahee wins out every time IMO. Ultimately, I'm betting the overriding factor here was simply his knowledge of the system. He's low maintenance, as in it won't take much to catch him up to speed and he can "contribute" right away.
Exactly.I'm guessing Jacobs was brought in primarily to protect Eli -- he already knows the pass protection schemes and is big enough to anchor against big LBs. If he gets more than a handful of touches I'll be shocked.
Yup. He's a blocker. Nobody wants a 300 pound twinkle toes on their team. If he somehow learns to run through things like he used to then he could be valuable, but he's been a prancer and a dancer for a while now.Exactly.I'm guessing Jacobs was brought in primarily to protect Eli -- he already knows the pass protection schemes and is big enough to anchor against big LBs. As a Giants fan this is how I see it. Jacobs will get 5-7 touches a game and will be a veteran 'mentor' (lack of a better word) for Wilson. He'll also be in the back field for any obvious passing downs.
except hes is only 31 years oldI recall Jacobs looking good in SF during the preseason until he hurt his knee. Then he was buried on the depth chart and started his usually brandon jacobs chatter. I dont think he's done. 1.5 years off for a bruising running back might be more of a blessing than most people are considering.
Plus, a little humility might be just what the big guy needed. He admitted being humbled in his press conference.
Jacobs wants to be a nimble, shifty running back. I'm assuming ever since he started playing football he had people telling him to play LB, DE, or TE, but he just wants to be a RB. Problem is: he wants to be an all around back instead of what he should be: a power back. He would always get defensive and say that he's more than just a battering ram - and while he might be the most nimble 6'5" 265 lb running back ever - thats like being the tallest midget in the circus. Look at highlights of his rookie year as to what type of back he should be. Guy was a truck. He shows glimpses of that in later years; however, he kept acting like he should do more than that and he was concerned with his longevity if he continued to run like that (2007-2011). I think he might finalize realize that if he wants to be on an NFL roster, he will have to be the battering ram that we all love him to be.
He's a very unique player that swam upstream by remaining a RB to carve out a successful NFL career.
As far as fantasy, he's like michael bush on Chi.
