BREAKING: Dez Bryant Expected To Miss 10-12 Weeks (1 Viewer)

I have the sneaking suspicion that the primary beneficiary is going to be Escobar. Been kicking around adding him all week.

Of course, the positive side is if you have him in the contest and survive, you'll be in good shape.

Right? :scared:

Sucks to hear the original 4-6 week timeframe for recovery virtually doubled. Still can't see dumping Dez to the wire given the timeframe that he could be back by the fantasy playoffs. That is if it even matters for Dez owners.

I dropped him for Kelvin Benjamin. Dez is done. Benjamin is the new #1. Scored 0 last week though but I'm not worried yet.

Can't see holding onto him. Let's say he comes back week 14/15. That's fantasy playoffs. Are you going to trust starting a guy who hasn't played since week 1? Will he be on a snap count if the Cowboys are not in playoff contention?

Huge bump for Witten. I love Terrance Williams but he's a good #2... I don't think he can handle the league's #1 CBs week in and week out. Cole Beasley could become extremely valuable.

this is what i kind of expected. he could miss the season. as an owner i'm prob gonna keep him on my roster for now.

Don't know what to believe...

ESPN's Ed Werder reports that the bone graft performed during Dez Bryant's foot injury improves his chances of coming back within six weeks.

It's telling that the Cowboys haven't placed Bryant on the IR Designated to Return List. That would suggest the team believes his return will come within 6-to-8 weeks. That's more favorable than the grim 10-to-12 week timetable established by NFL.com's Ian Rapoport earlier today. Terrance Williams and Cole Beasley will have expanded roles during his absence.

Jene Bramble is saying it's hard to see him even start full weight bearing rehab in 6 weeks with a bone graft. This sounds like it's going to be one of those things where you hear, "he could return next week!" For 3 or 4 weeks straight.

I would not assume Rapoport's report is true until confirmed by someone else. Remember last year how he reported that J. Graham would miss multiple weeks, and everyone believed it, but no one else ever confirmed it and it didn't happen? Unless it's something about the Packers, for whom he is truly an insider, I don't believe anything that's reported by Rapoport only.

ETA: I have no shares of Dez so how much time he actually misses doesn't matter to me.

Hogwash fellas. Dez owners read this. It explains the procedure that was done which is to help heal the bone in 4-6 weeks. Doctors using aggressive techniques have healed the Jones fracture of the 5th metatarsal in 4 to 5 weeks and have been doing so for 5 years. The OP was quoting media to insure more drama and deeper questioning of the Cowboys brass.

Dez will be back in 6 I bet.

Roddy White said Tuesday on Sirius that, having watched Julio Jones and his foot injury, he isn't sure Dez Bryant will return at all in 2015
Shefter retweeted this from the original source. Shefter is trying to take credit for other people's work. He copied the info from Montee Balls Twitter account.

I'd be surprised if he's back at all this year. You should be praying for 10-12.

Bone grafting does not speed up the human body's healing process.

No it ensures the bones take and reduces the chance of re-injure. Bones take 4-6 weeks to heal. The story explains that clearly.

As long as he remains off the IR designated to return I think that should be a strong tell to us all that the Cowboys expect sooner than later.

Nothing can "ensure the bones take." It's something they do to try to help it form a stronger union. This bone does not heal like other well vascularized bones. Hence the grafting.

Heal? Yes. Be ready to run, jump, block, be tacked? No.

I agree, Dez should be dropped in all redraft leagues.

Do we really need a new thread each time some new speculation is put out there? Clearly, it is NOT known how long Bryant will be out. Isnt it good enough to just put opinions/speculation in one thread?

Whether it is 5 weeks or 10, it doesn't matter to me one bit. I'm sure I can't play him this week. I certainly won't be dropping him, and I take it one week at a time.

12 weeks

http://www.biomedcentral.com/1758-2555/4/25

Background

Delayed unions or refractures are not rare following surgical treatment for proximal fifth metatarsal metaphyseal-diaphyseal fractures. Intramedullary screw fixation with bone autografting has the potential to resolve the issue. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the result of the procedure.

Methods

The authors retrospectively reviewed 15 athletes who underwent surgical treatment for proximal fifth metatarsal metaphyseal-diaphyseal fracture. Surgery involved intramedullary cannulated cancellous screw fixation after curettage of the fracture site, followed by bone autografting. Postoperatively, patients remain non weight-bearing in a splint or cast for two weeks and without immobilization for an additional two weeks. Full weight-bearing was allowed six weeks postoperatively. Running was permitted after radiographic bone union, and return-to-play was approved after gradually increasing the intensity.

Results

All patients returned to their previous level of athletic competition. Mean times to bone union, initiation of running, and return-to-play were 8.4, 8.8, and 12.1 weeks, respectively. Although no delayed unions or refractures was observed, distal diaphyseal stress fractures at the distal tip of the screw occurred in two patients and a thermal necrosis of skin occurred in one patient.
