Breaking down OLs for IDP purposes (1 Viewer)

Anyone have any thoughts on who might have the worst OLs in the league this year? In particular, it might be worthwhile to discuss weak LTs to evaluate DE matchups. What do you think?

Here's Chris Smith's latest update on offensive lines. It doesn't break down each player on the line, but does provide an idea of how each line pass protects at a glance. We're hoping to put together a weekly spreadsheet this season that shows sacks allowed per week by team to show emerging trends. And our IDP Matchup Analyzer allows you to search for fantasy points (in FBG scoring) for and against each NFL team by position for as many or as few weeks as you want.

It's early, but I'd be watching STL, CHI, DET, ATL, SF, BAL, BUF and OAK to start the year. Those teams have a combination of questionable lines, quarterbacks that like to hold the ball too long and/or young quarterbacks.

Unfortunately, I have to say that I've been less than impressed by the Redskins' o-line's pass protection this preseason. I'd expect them to be a better run-blocking team than pass blocking, but this has me a little concerned about whether age/injury has caught up to them. They're all over 30 years of age.

Last year, these were the top 5 teams in terms of Sacks and QB Hits allowed. The percentage is by Total Pass Attempts

(ie ... N.Y. Jets QB's were either sacked or hit 28.4 % of the time they dropped back to pass.)

1 N. Y. Jets 28.4% (Favre and offseason addition along the OL will improve things for the Jets)

2 Kansas City 28.0% (KC should be a great matchup for IDP sack artist again this year)

3 Miami 25.3% (Should be improved, new coaching regime and Jake Long)

4 St. Louis 24.2% (More of the same)

5 San Francisco 24.2% (Mike Martz ... Detroit was 19.6 last year)

LEAGUE AVERAGE 17.3%

Here are the bottom 5

28 Houston 11.9%

29 San Diego 11.6%

30 Cleveland 11.2%

31 Dallas 9.9%

32 New Orleans 9.1%

This is really nice information. Did you compile it yourself? I would like to see more of this if you have a link?

I am amazed that the FBG depth charts don't list offensive line positions. The way that games are filmed the vast majority of the time you are watching the offensive line, yet the analysis on offensive linemen is nothing compared to that of WRs and defensive backs. Really though, how often are you lucky enough to get a replay that shows the whole play in context so you can really make judgements on those positions?

I have a dream that one day NFL games will be broadcast so you can see all 22 players at once and you can judge players not by their boxscore, but by their actual play on the field in it's full context. I can't believe more people aren't demanding this. With all the time and effort that goes into fantasy teams and gambling on the sport people don't mind that they aren't seeing the whole game, which just rubs me the wrong way. Take how much you think you know about the NFL now and how do you think it would compare to your understanding of the game if you could in fact see all 22 players on every play. Sorry to go off on a tangent, but the way games are filmed really needs to change.

Anyways, can we officially make the IDP forum a place for offensive line discussion as well? The Shark Pool just has too many important discussions going on about things such as is Adrian Peterson's nickname AP or AD or ADP, I have the 10th pick should I take Marshawn Lynch, what's new with Chris Henry, and numerous threads on Brett the Jett. All kidding aside, the IDP forum has a different breed of regulars and the discussions are better. Sifting through the mess that is the SP to find some tidbits on Eric Winston is going to involve reading a lot of cheap shot personal insult posts and nonsense. In here a discussion on why Jake Long is better suited as a RT might actually be productive.

You're closer than you may realize to on demand tv broadcasts of sporting events that, with the click of a button, you choose the camera angle/shot, kind of like you can do in video games now like Madden.

How close exactly? 2008 season? If there is anything I can do to motivate you to expand on this please let me know.

No, not this year, but once everything goes digital next February stuff like this becomes possible. They've been talking about it for years, and the technology is there.
