Brees - A good buy low? (1 Viewer)

I know Brees is one of the elite QB's, but where do people stand on him for the rest of this year? Can the saints turn this offense around? Will he get back to the old brees with good reliable numbers?

He's been very reliable point-wise even though he's been playing like garbage. Not sure anyone would be selling him low.

I'd question whether he's a buy-low. His owners are probably all-in and my guess is you'd need to pay for the numbers you'd get assuming he bounces back in the second half.

I just got him low last week. Wait till the Steelers pick him off a few more times then low ball the frustrated owner. Could be a great addition for the playoff run.

well he has not exactly been quintessential brees. he has only been over 300 yards twice and has 10 picks through 7 games.

Depends on your scoring. Right now in the league I own him in he's #12 QB for points per game. Barely startable. My other QB is Ryan, and with his upcoming schedule Brees may be seeing my bench very soon. Unfortunately I have to start Brees this week against the Steelers with Ryan on a bye. Amazingly, I'm considering trying to get Fitzpatrick off the ww as a replacement for Brees.

I wouldnt bank on this. The Saints will be much better next week, Brees always shows up for these prime time games where the Saints actually are probably the underdog. Reggie Bush may be back this game as well. I think this Monday night game will be a score fest myself. You may want to sell him before that.

Optimism is cool ... but what's out there concrete that would make us think this? I don't know, man ... don't want to be relying on intangible stuff.

Well for one, Scott Fujita doesn't play for the Steelers.
He didn't play for Vikings, Panthers, or Cardinals, either. Don't think it was just the Fujita factor.

The Saints have beaten themselves for most of this season. They can play at a very high level when they are on and are motivated and that will be the case on Monday night football. Remember they are still Superbowl defending Champs with pretty much the same team they had in the Superbowl and will more than likely be getting a couple aces back in the fold this week. They now have their backs to a wall and will play like it- all out. I expect a stellar game out of the Saints this week. Quote me later if you like.

Brees is clearly not himself this year so there's no way I'd trade for him in redraft. Dynasty is another story but I think his price would still be too high.

It would depend on the owner. If they are the kind of guy that holds on to top picks for dear life, then good luck. If you have an open minded individual who is in a desperate situation, then they may be open to moving Brees.

Brees has been much worse than previous years, but I really think it has to do with the o-line. the line that was one of the best last season is playing like crap this season. Brees has been hit more times in the last few games than I think he was all last season. I think it's the pressure that causing him to make some hasty throws.

if the line gets its act together, Brees will be a lot better. and I think that they will, because it's the same group of guys, but it's almost midseason and they are still playing like it's preseason.

To reiterate the obvious: it depends on your league's scoring rules, too.In the money league I own Brees in, INTs don't count at all in the scoring. Brees is still the third-best FFB QB in our league (tied with Kyle Orton) behind Philip Rivers and Aaron Rodgers.

The Saints Defense put the ball in Brees's hands A LOT more last year too. Their turnover margin has flat out been reversed in the course of the year. Brees numbers were inflated with many more opportunities last year -vs- this year. That, coupled with some poorer line play, has to be factored into the conversation too. What has happened on Defense? Why are they not as effective? Sharper had a career year at age 43, but that really be the only issue that has changed.

This is an excellent point. People tend to forget the defense gave Brees & Co. the ball back last year at break-neck speed.
