Brees agrees to contract w/ NO (4 Viewers)

South Beach versus New Orleans...prior to Katrina this would've been a pick 'em but the cold truth of the matter is that South Beach is the more desirable locale now.

Saban versus Sean Payton :lmao:

Mularkey versus Marrone :lmao: :lmao:
I wonder if Saban could be effective in the NFL for a strong organization? I thnk Payton ended up winning this comparison, though.
Payton definitely saw HIS quarterback in Brees. Mainly the deadly accuracy, one would guess.

I kind of thought this was about how the old *&^*&%$! CURMUDGEON Benson ***WON'T PAY DREW FREAKIN' BREES!

Benson has squeezed every last million out of this town and state and he can't even find what is for him the pocket change to give this City's first and only certifiable No. 1 all time hero since Andrew Jackson the money he is ***DUE***. Brady (paid), then PManning (paid), then Brees (NOT paid).

Great move by the Saints. The Dolphins will regret not upping their offer and trading for bustpepper.
This is probably the most disturbing part of the entire thread.
Broken clock/Blind squirrel.
Very true. Plus, Brees had been a solid QB. IF the injury didn't ruin his arm, I don't think anyone had to wonder if he'd be good in a different environment. He was throwing to McCardell and Eric Parker during his last two years. Dante looked horrible before his knee injury and he was trying to come back from tearing every single ligament in his knee. I know hindsight is 20/20 but the writing was on the wall.It would be ridiculous to have tried to predict the amount of success Brees would have in his first year, but to expect him to continue to perform well, if he was able to perform, was no stretch of the imagination.

Might want to change the thread title to indicate it's an '06 signing ;) I seriously thought this was new news until I went to the first post.

Was there any kind of information available in March 2006 that would have mitigated concerns about the shoulder? In hindsight, was the injury less severe than thought? IOW, since medical records were involved, perhaps no one besides Brees and a very few others knew the true extent and recoverability of his shoulder injury?

Or, rather, was the injury truly bad, but Brees kind of lucked out, medically?
If I recall correctly, the Dolphins withdrew their offer to Brees after giving him a physical. It was no sure thing at the time that his shoulder would completely heal.As it happens, his shoulder more than healed. Brees had below average arm strength before the injury. He's still no Kyle Boller, but he came back from the injury stronger than he was before.

Bionic Brees?

In his book Brees recounts a one to one conversation he initiated with Saban directly by calling him personally:>>>"Coach, I heard that my medical reports came back and your doctors didn't like what they saw."

"Right. Well, you know, our doctors have given you a 25 percent chance of coming back and playing. ... We'd still love to have you but that number we talked about earlier might have to change."

"Coach, I know what your doctors believe about me. My question is, what do you believe? Do you believe that I can come back and be better than I was before and lead your team to a championship?"

"Well, Drew, I would still love to have you, but I have to trust what our medical people are saying."

Drew adds: "I had all the information I needed. I had made my decision." So he told Saban, "I appreciate your interest. I appreciate the visit and the invitation to come down there. I'm going to New Orleans."<<<
