Brett Favre trivia (1 Viewer)

Since 1960, there have been only two pairs of QBs and HCs where the QB was older than the HC. Favre (39 this season) and Mangini (37 this season) are set to become the third set.

Name the other two.

Extra notes. There were four instances where the QB was just one year younger than the HC, but none have happened since 1975. Four times in the last 10 years, though, the Raiders have had a head coach be just two years older than the QB (Kiffin/Culpepper, and Gruden/Gannon three times).

Greeny was actually talking about this one this morning on Mike and Mike.
Yup. Listening now.I suspect he didn't know the answer, though, which is what prompted me to run this qwery.I might have came in late, though: did he say who they were?

This was my first guess. Shula/?? is the other.
Gruden has coached four QBs that were within seven years of his own age -- Gannon-Johnson-George-Garcia -- but none of them were younger than him.Shula did start coaching young, and he coached some old QBs. But Unitas and Morrall (his first QBs) were a few years older than him.

Didn't Wade Wilson start for the Raiders a couple times when Gruden first got there? Pretty sure he was older.

One was in the early 80's. Like 82. Was it in Cinci?
The closest the Bengals came was in '92, with Boomer (31) and the younger Shula (33).
San Fran in the early 80's?
The closest that 49ers ever got was with the elder Nolan and the underrated John Brodie. Brodie was three years younger, but they stayed together for six seasons.Gimme some more specific ones though, before we're out of teams ;) .

Did Wade Wilson play for Gruden that last season in Oakland? Wilson had to have been around 40 that year...

They did give the answer this morning on the show, I can't remember who they were. It certainly wasn't a 'top flight' coach or QB.

Curley Lambeau was 23 when he started coaching...unfortunately, they did not list the position of QB back then, so that one is not going to work.

Charlie Conerly and Allie Sherman, NY Giants

Also, Dave Krieg played in Tenn under Jeff Fisher but as a backup.

Nice job, Kruppe.Connerly and Sherman is the other answer. It should be noted, of course, that 100% of the time when a team's HC is younger than a team's QB, that team wins 10 games.

Conerly only started one more game and threw only 18 more attempts than Wade Wilson, who was answered earlier but dismissed as a spot starter.
You're right; I should have checked the answers again.I did a query for all QBs that I think resulted in giving me the top two QBs for each team in each year, assuming the QB2 played at least a few games. Wilson was missed because he was the team's QB3, but Connerly really shouldn't count. Thanks for that catch.

So, does that mean Wilson/Gruden counts (3 total) or there is only one right answer?

There's no right or wrong answer, you can make the trivia question whatever you want. IMO, though, I'd only count situations where the QB is the team's real QB, so I'd only count Morton and Reeves.

Here are the five oldest combos I found:

George Halas and Jack Concannon -- 48 years.

Marv Levy and Todd Collins -- 46 years.

Jim Mora and Peyton Manning -- 41 years.

Joe Gibbs and Jason Campbell -- 41 years.

Paul Brown and Ken Anderson -- 41 years.
