Brian Griese (1 Viewer)

I grabbed Griese as my 3rd QB last week and he's been playing very well. His history tells me he will fall apart but he hasn't thus far. Do you guys think he can continue this in the Bears O or is he still a ticking timebomb?

This is how it usually goes with Brian Griese he starts off well for a team and then plays poorly. It wasn't so much the case in Denver(he was bad then great then average) but it was in Miami and Tampa (he went from good to bad).

Hey Schooner-

I think partly the reason we're seeing Griese throw for good yardage and a couple of TDs (while also a couple of INTs) is the fact that CHI is playing from behind in the 2nd half and forced to pass. Griese hasn't been all that good in real life, but in FF his numbers are solid. I actually think this trend is likely to continue. CHI's D is too banged up and not playing well and Benson is getting it done on the ground most weeks. Thus, a lot will be asked of Griese and the passing attack (or Hester in the return game I suppose).

Just my opinion.

Week 9 BYE

Nov 11 @Oakland 4:15pm

Nov 18 @Seattle 8:15pm

Nov 25 Denver 1:00pm

Dec 2 N.Y. Giants 4:15pm

Dec 6 @Washington 8:15pm

Dec 17 @Minnesota 8:30pm

Dec 23 Green Bay 1:00pm

Dec 30 New Orleans 1:00pm

They've got a pretty favorable schedule. Toughest tasks are probably @Washington and @Philadelphia (just because they'll blitz more than any other team Griese will see).

I think he's a good QBBC guy. If you pair him with another QB that's kind of in the same boat (mid-level talent, somewhat favorable matchups the rest of the way, solid weapons), it'll add up to a top notch QB most weeks.

I think Griese will probably cool off slightly but I expect him to remain a strong #2 QB to possibly a weak #1 QB depending upon match-ups. His biggest knock has been a relatively high INT rate but honestly it's no higher than Grossman's INT rate and at least Griese is putting points on the board.

The Bears with Grossman as QB for 3 games averaged 253 yards, .6 offensive TD's, and 11 points per game.

The Bears with Griese as QB for 3 games average 349 yards, 2.6 offensive TD's, and 28 points per game.

The Bears D/ST scored 1 TD while Grossman was starting and 2 while Griese was starting so the 17 points per game difference is really only a 14.6 point per game difference. Also Griese has more passing attempts (123 to 89) so here's a different breakdown through 3 games

Grossman averaged 52.8% completion rate, 10.6 yards per completion, .3 passing TD's, and 2 INT's per game.

Griese is averaged a 61.5% completion rate, 11.7 yards per completion, 2.3 passing TD's, and 2 INT's per game.

Grossman may have played slightly tougher D's than Griese has faced, but it's not a huge factor. I don't think Griese is the long term solution but at least he gives the Bears an opportunity to win. I'm not overly confident when Griese drops back to pass, but I don't throw up in my mouth like I did every time Grossman dropped back. And for the record I picked up Griese as soon as I heard he was starting. He is my #2 behind Hasselbeck but he has been outperforming Matt consistently.

The Bears injury-riddled defense is probably the biggest reason to expect Griese to maintain high production. Of course, if I acquire him, he'll quickly become injured or ineffective. (Kurt Warner was my pickup last week.) So let me know if you want his production to fall, and if so I'll run right out and get him on my roster.

Wow, coincidence. I did the exact same thing. Griese has the Lions during Hasselbeck's bye, which helped with the decision.

Ditto, though it's Romo I have with the week 8 bye. Greise manages well enough, and an afternoon game (no primetime) at home vs. the Lions is very favorable in my eyes. Obviously, I don't expect Romo numbers, but he'll perform well enough. I just picked him up this week for next week, and that's it.

22/35 288 3/1, Bears in a clutch win. 30-27 ;)
So you're saying the bears are going to put more points on the eagles d than the Packers 16 (1 defensive td and 3 fgs), the Skins 20, Lions 21, Giants 16 (Def TD), Jets 9? Also qbs haven't faired well against the eagles D. Favre 206 yds, Campbell 201 and TD, Kitna did very well 446 and a couple scores, Eli 135, Pennington 128. I just don't see greise lighting them up. Hester and the defense may put up a couple scores.
