In an interview in Tuesday's editions of The (Baltimore) Sun, Roberts acknowledged that he used steroids "once" in 2003. However, he said he hadn't used steroids or other performance-enhancing drugs since.In a statement he issued to The (Baltimore) Sun, Roberts said that after the single injection he immediately realized that it was not what he "stood for" or anything he wanted to continue doing. He said he's sorry he did it and said he regrets making what he says was a "terrible decision."

Well it worked for Pettitte, so I'm going to assume there are going to be a whole bunch of guys doing the whole mea culpa thing

I love all these guys (including Pettitte) who say they just used it once. I dont know how HGH works but I know you need to take a cycle of roids for them to work. Why would anyone inject themselves just once and then quit?

I also saw Vina admitted he took HGH to recover from injuries. Pettitte opened up a seive.

I liked it better when everyone was just denying it. Instead of asking us to look the other way and/or try to forget it they are basically telling us we're all dumb enough to believe they smoked but didn't inhale.

I don't know, maybe I can buy Roberts Schitck. He had that massive season in 2005 and then kind of regressed to the kind of player he was and is.

It is interesting that they are all coded somehow, but whatever gets these guys through the night I guess. The details to me are ultimately less important than the admission and the greater extension is that they ALL start to pressure Clemens, as the lone dissenter.

I hear the same mantra in my line of work (Law Enforcement). Whether it's a DUI or a shoplifter that has been caught by security. If I had a penny for each time I have heard the "this was my first time" excuse, then I would be a wealthy man.This line of thinking is also quite effective when interrogating someone you think is guilty of a crime. Often times the suspect will admit to a crime but will state they only did it once or this was their first time. They think by the partial admission, they will get off easier. It's part of the human condition I guess

I agree with everything you say, and I'd like to see enhanced testing as well. Regarding Roberts, his monster season was all about the terminator red-eye contacts, nothing else...move along...

Seriously...I much prefer the players to keep their mouths shut and just move on than to insult our intelligence with these ridiculous claims I'm hearing in the wake of the Mitchell report.

Olney actually went as far as to relay a story told to him by an agent of a player questioned by Mitchell about a $3000 check he made out to Radomski. He didnt remember what the check was for but claimed it could have been for any number of things. Now paying your drug dealer by check is stupid, but what else are numerous MLB players giving Radomski thousand dollar checks for?
