Brian Westbrook "day to day" with ankle strain (1 Viewer)

Are there any actual updates on the injury?
Apparently he is walking fine on it with no limp. He hasn't jogged at all yet though. He said that he's "optimistic" about playing this week. We'll see. IMO, I wouldn't count on him. I think that it's possible that the Eagles just want the Bears to think that he could play so that they have to prepare for him too.

Sep 24 Les Bowen, of the Philadelphia Daily News, reports Philadelphia Eagles RB Brian Westbrook (ankle) missed the team's practice Wednesday, Sept. 24. He said he is optimistic about playing Week 4, but he likened his injury to a high ankle strain.

This reminds me of the game he missed last year. Sunday night game. The reports were that Philly was trying to get him ready, he was saying he was optimistic.... At the last second before our 1pm sunday lineup deadline, I benched him, and it turned out he didn't play... The Eagles aren't going to risk letting an injury linger by pushing him too hard.. Better to have him miss a game and be 90-100% in the coming weeks.

Yes, that and by dangling him, the Bears have to prepare for him. I picked up Buckhalter and would love to use him this week. The only problem is it's and 8PM Sunday night game, so waiting until the last minute does me nothing since I don't have Westbrook. Oh well, at least the Westbrook owner will be squirming.

Last I heard, he didn't practice, but the ankle was not swollen... only sore. He said that he will try the ankle out later this week and was optimistic that he would play on Sunday.

Would not start Westy this week. This is the same ankle he had a high ankle sprain on before. Looked like his big toe bent back and touched his shin in the game. Sitting Westy with confidence!

Eagles' offense has a limp

By Ray Parrillo

If practice leads to precision, the Eagles' offense could very well putter along in fits and starts when the team plays the Bears on Sunday night in Chicago.

It appears that the Eagles' two most important players, Brian Westbrook and Donovan McNabb, will end the week having spent more time in the training room than on the practice field.

There's a decent chance Westbrook won't play at all, even though he said yesterday the right ankle he sprained against Pittsburgh continues to improve. Westbrook walked into the media room at the NovaCare Complex with only a slight limp, and he seemed fairly nimble as he hopped down a couple of steps after saying he plans to do all he can to be prepared for Sunday.

"Obviously, Sunday I wasn't able to walk on it or put too much pressure on it," Westbrook said. "Now I'm able to walk on it and put pressure on it, and I've been able to do some different things. So now, like I said, I feel like I've gotten better."

Westbrook compared notes with teammate Brian Dawkins, who suffered a sprained ankle during the preseason against New England. He was ready to start the season.

"It went away pretty quick," Dawkins said. "It's one of those things where you twist your ankle, which I've done a million times playing basketball. You twist your ankle. You can't really move for a couple of days, and all of a sudden the progress is tremendous once you're able to put pressure on it."

Said Westbrook, "He was able to come back pretty quickly from that and recover. But every injury is different. Every player is different. It's important for me to rehab as much as I can and try to make the game on Sunday."

:tfp:

Trying to decide on starting Buckhalter... I hate these GTDs.....but have to guess Westbrook sits.

Though Westbrook might not play this week, the good news is that his ankle injury isn't as severe as it initially seemed. Though he left Lincoln Financial Field on crutches after last week's game against Pittsburgh, Westbrook made notable improvements throughout the week after his MRI turned up negative for any ligament damage.

Considering Westbrook a game-time decision would probably be fair based off of Reid's comments since the injury. Reid said treatment methods don't change too much on the road, and Westbrook will see where he's at on Sunday.

"He's getting better every day here," Reid said. "I mentioned before that it's going to go right to the wire there. So we'll see how he does."

Across the board, though, Reid says he is confident in how his offense will shape up on Sunday. Even if Westbrook plays, Correll Buckhalter could still see increased reps, especially after his 87-yard, one touchdown performance against Pittsburgh, a game in which Max Jean-Gilles filled in for Andrews at right guard. Andrews missed the game with lower back spasms.

RB Brian Westbrook seems fairly confident that he'll be able to play against Atlanta after the bye. Westbrook has missed 11 of 24 quarters with injuries this season, first an ankle strain and then two broken ribs.

i saw this too...maybe on rotowire? anyway, taking time off to heal the ribs plus the bye has to be good news for this ankle.

I would think the ankle is close to 100% after the bye...it's the ribs that worry me..

Hopefully most Westbrook owners also took Buck because Buck has been filling in quite nicely.

I'm wondering today if I'm not taking the Westbrook rib injury seriously enough. It's almost like I'm giving him a pass b/c you kind of know going into it that you're going to get this drama with him: "that's Westbrook: always questionable, always comes through."

It has come to my attention that I could move him in some pretty attractive trades (apparently my fellow owners think the same way as me). I don't want to turn this into the AC forum, but is this the time to move him before it becomes apparent that he's going to be damaged goods all year? It's hard to pull the trigger on a top 3 pick that can be such a difference maker.

Are there any more in-depth reports about the seriousness of the rib injury? Any local word that's escaping wider media attention?

ETA: I 2nd changing the title

I'm asking the same kind of question about ADP but due to performance not injury, still they are ranked about the same now (Westy a little behind ADP) and were drafted mostly 2 or 3 between them so maybe there is some commonality there for youhttp://forums.footballguys.com/forum/index...howtopic=433132
