Brian Westbrook (1 Viewer)

Hey folks,

Apologies if there is already another thread on this topic (I couldn't find one), but what is the word on Brian Westbrook's health? Some news I've been reading say his health is not a concern this year, but others say he's been missing practice (resting) due to a swollen knee...

In a PPR league, is he worth reaching into the top 5?

I'm an eagles fan, I've not heard or seen anything negative about his health. the problem i saw was they took him out of a short and goal situation for tony hunt who scored. I've don't remember seeing that before. - keep an eye on that

I'd say yes, along with Reggie Bush. If it's a PPR league, knock down guys like Rudi Johnson, Larry Johnson, and Shaun Alexander. These guys don't catch as many passes as other backs.

PPR...Absolutely IMHO

Why risk getting Westbrook killed on a goal line situation in PRESEASON?I wouldn't take it to mean too much with respect to the regular season.
Tony Hunt is a serious vulture to Westbrook. Preseason or not, I do not see Westbrook getting the goal line carries. As always, this would be just my opinion, I have been known to be wrong.

I'd be worried more aboutBuckhalter getting more carries than Hunt

In past years I would agree. Correll can not stay healthy and there is a reason why Philly drafted this guy in round 3. But I am just splitting hairs, it really doesn't change the answer to the original question. I do not think that Westbrook is top 5, PPR or not.

I keep coming back to this question myself. I draft fourth in a 1PPR league tonight and I'm weighing that in my mind. I know LT and SJax are going 1/2. I really like Gore, and if he's there at 4 I will be taking him. But the #3 guy is a guppy, so I have no idea what he might do in the draft. If he takes Gore, my projections have Westy and Bush in a statistical dead heat... and that's where I'm stuck. If Westy stays healthy, he's money in the bank. But shaking the feeling of that being a big IF is going to be impossible all season long. And Bush is a great, dynamic player, but I'm afraid he'll be a roller-coaster ride of inconsistency.I may end up flipping a coin come the four pick.

As good as Bush is he's still in a RBBC situation with Deuce ... certainly he will play more than several RB's in the same situation due to his exceptional catching ability .. but drafting in the 5th spot, Bush isn't a consideration at all whereas Westbrook is

I have the 4th spot as well, in a PPR league, and have been going over and over on this pick. Gore and Westy both have injury risk and I don't see taking Bush at 4 either. If you go with either of them make sure to handcuff them just in case. But I'm thinking of going with P Manning here but not sure. I really think that you can still get decent RB's in a 10 team league, along with maybe Gates or a top WR.

It's not like Westbrook got a lot of Tds from the goal line before Hunt got there, so in the case of Westbrook, I would discount the TD vulturing effect some

I agree, the beating that Westy will take over the courseof a season will be diminished if they go with the young TH or Buckhalter at the goalline. If one of these 2 has a nose for the endzone,I fully expect Westbrooks TD totals to go down this season.

So if the first 4 picks are Tomlinson/S-Jax/Gore/Addai, do you think about picking up Alexander or LJ over Westbrook?

If you're getting 1 PPR, what I'd do is estimate how many more receptions Westbrook will have over the other guy(s) your're considering, and then calculate how many more TDs that equates to (obviously, 1 TD per every 6 "extra" receptions). If those "extra TDs" make Westbrook appear more favorable, then consider Westbrook to maybe be the better choice. I'd also consider strength of schedule and I'd also look at who each prospective player plays against during your league's playoff weeks.

bumping this...

after the Chiefs' horrible performance last night, should taking LJ at #5 still be worth the risk? I know it's preseason, but they looked bad...

ugh. still on the fence about westbrook/LJ/r. bush, even, at the 5 spot.
