Bringing your own bottle of water to a lunch spot (1 Viewer)

No bueno?  Yes I'm a frugal sob.   It just grinds my gears spending $1.50 for something that I can get for a quarter.  I typically just drink tap and I'll ask for a cup at a chain place like Chipotle but I feel weird asking for one at some mom and pop joint.

You could also make a salad or sandwich at home for a fraction of what they would cost at a restaurant.
don't get me wrong, i like to pay for value.   i get no value out of that water over what i can just fill up from that tap.  the food on the other hand i'll gladly pay for.  i like to eat.

Ask the restaurant for tap water.

I'm not getting this at all.

I'm not really talking about a restaurant where they'll voluntarily give you water.   I mean something like a deli or some hole in the wall mexican or afghani place where you just place your order at the counter.   If its sit down with a server, it seems more natural, but the places I'm referring to, I've never seen someone drinking anything besides what they're selling.   I could just be making something out of nothing which is why I'm here.

i used to do this with orange juice at my Sunday hangover brunches - had zero effs to give when upbraided for it.

Yeah, I'll usually bring a six pack of beer when I go to the local bar to watch a game or something. Don't see the need to pay 3X the cost for something I have in my fridge.

Ok... I get you now. Yeah, I don't like buying the 2$ water either.

I think if it's a full fledged sit down restaurant with waiters and waitresses---bringing your own water bottle is very petty.   If it's a sandwich stand or a quick casual place--I don't think it's nearly as bad.  About once every week or two weeks I'll have to work out of our offices in downtown Los Angeles. I'll literally be walking from office to office for ten+ hours--so I'll bring a tumbler thats filled with ice water with me.   Generally at some point in the day I'll stop at one of the numerous quick sandwich/pizza places for a quick bite--and I've never been looked at awkwardly for having my own water tumbler with me.  With that being said--this is about the only type of instance where I actually do bring my own water with me.

For me, this one falls under the 'ol:

"yeah you can do it but is it worth $2 to look like a jackass."

I just kind of figure when I go to a restaurant, especially a mom and pop restaurant, I pay the asking price because I know every buck they make goes into their pockets. Thus I'm helping a local family.

If it's one of those water themos dealies, thats fine.  A bottle of water, you're an animal.  A small place operates on small margins.  Take your food to go if you want to bring a bottle of water

:lmao:  my nephews and their idiot friends bring flasks to the bar, I flick their ears for this nonsense to no avail

I hear ya.  Part of the reason I'm there in the first place is I like to support these local eateries that provide good food at a good price.  I wish I wasn't wired this way but it just grinds my gears wasting money.  Its a blessing and a curse.  I typically order more than my share since I like to eat so they're getting their monies worth out of me.
