Nice hire for the Donkeys

Feel bad for Bates though, I know he wanted a HC gig. It'll come for him though if he works the same magic in Denver that he did in Green Bay. A plus for him is that he's got better pieces to work with this time around.

My biggest knock on Ted Thompson was his inability to keep Bates in Green Bay. This will certainly improve the Broncos defense, Bates is top notch.

:confused:That and he should have done more to try to keep Mike Wahl.

He tried but Bates felt slighted for being overlooked for head coach so he left on his own. Too bad because he's such a great coordinator.

Its not like he had a choice. Bates wanted to be HC, and that was the only way he would have stayed in Green Bay.

He got more money than he deserved, and you cant keep everyone. I wish we could have kept him too, but loses are inevitable.

The only way Bates would've stayed was as a Heach Coach. Based on the fact that the guy has never held the position, and teams weren't exactly beating down his door to hand him a head coaching job, I'm guessing there's a reason Thompson didn't want him as a head coach. I liked Bates the coordinator, but I think Thompson made the right call by going elsewhere for his head coach.
