Sources: Broncos WR McKinley found dead

DENVER - Denver Broncos wide receiver Kenny McKinley has apparently taken his own life, sources tell FOX31 News.

McKinley, 23, was found dead in Arapahoe County. No further details were immediately available.

McKinley had struggled to stay healthy during his two years with the Broncos. Limited to kick returns, was placed on injury reserve with a knee injury in 2009. He was also placed on IR in 2010 prior to the start of the regular season.

McKinley was a standout WR at South Carolina and climbed into the SEC record books with 207 receptions, the third-most in conference history, according to NFL.com. He also became just the 12th player in league history collect more than 2,700 receiving yards.

McKinley is the third Broncos player to die a sudden death in the past four years. On New Year's Day 2007, cornerback Darrent Williams was killed in drive-by shooting in downtown Denver. In Feb. 2007, running back Damien Nash, 24, collapsed and died during a charity basketball game.
wow. Third Bronco to pass away in four years.

I liked him a lot in college, thought he fit the profile of a 3rd wr who could be a nice utility player.

Injuries really derailed his career.

Holy !@#$

I'm in shock right now. My condolenses to his family in Louisiana and his Gamecock family here in Columbia, SC.

He broke most of Sterling Sharpe's records while @ SC. Not bad for a high school QB. I truly enjoyed watching him play for 4 years in a Gamecock uniform.

"Kenny had a promising future on the football field, but more importantly, he was a great teammate whose smile and personality could light up the room," McDaniels said in a statement. "This is a tragic loss for our football team, and his family is in all of our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time."
sad link

Such a shame for a young person to lose all hope. You just never know what is actually happening in a persons head that makes them do things like this.

So did I, very sad.

He was one of my rookie sleepers and I thought he was going to be a starter for a the Broncos once Marshall left. Very sad.

My goodness, this is terrible. I'm at a loss for words. My condolences to his family, and may he rest in peace. Just terrible.

I feel sadness for his family for having to go through this. But not sure i feel much sadenss for him?? Seems like there are a lot of people in this world giving 110% to beat things like cancer, etc...and he just throws his life away for no seemingly good reason. Seems like such a cowardly act.

Am i looking at this completely wrong?

This discussion would be a 30 page thread in and of itself.

No you're not, but now is not the time.

I agree. I remember Cecil and Bloom mentioning him the summer or spring before. IIRC Cecil was impressed in camp. Granted the Broncos have brought in plenty of young talent and the situation(this summer) simply isn't the same as it was then, but I thought McKinley had a shot with some "seasoning" on the sideline and in practice.Deep league- I think I had to choose between he, Ramses Barden and Adrian Arrington as "projects" worth keeping or not this year. This death means a little bit more (please understand) to me because my initial reaction is "what's going on in Denver?" and then I think how they are separate incidents and don't see a correlation.I had Javon Walker for FF. I remember thinking that he did look good on Green Bay and if the league is big, why not let him sit at the end of my figurative FF bench and see what happens.I loved Sweetness and his son was such an average player, but for one reason or another I had him in this deep league to wait and see if he developed. Nash seemed to be in competition with Jarrett years ago.Stopping with the nobody cares about your league in the pool thought, it's just that FF makes us actually know something about these players and most people probably wouldn't even know who guys like Nash or McKinley were if not for FF or being a diehard Broncos fan.
