Thanks everyone for the responses. I agree that Maroney has great upside. Is nobody concerned about his injury history or the fact that Belicheck doesn't ever favor one part of the offense?
Dillon had some good years in NE. Even Antowain Stiff did ok for the Pats. Belicheck isn't dumb. He'll utilize his best players. The Dolphins could surprise this season with Green in the fold, but I still expect the Patriots to be a much better offense. It's a lot easier for a good offense to carry a running back than it is for a good RB to carry an offense. So even if Brown is more talented than Maroney, he probably won't score more FF points. I used to be a big fan of preaching that talent should be the primary concern when drafting players, but I've since come to realize that situation plays a huge role in RB success. Put Steven Jackson on the Browns and he'd be a fringe top 10 back. Put Carnell Williams on the Colts and he'd be a top 10 pick in every league. The moral of the story is that when it comes to RBs who are similar in talent, you have to factor their situation into your projections. The Patriots have a better QB, better WRs, a better OL, and a better defense. That said, the optimism for Maroney around these parts is a bit premature. His rookie year was a mixed bag. And while there's no obvious challenger on the roster, I think we could see Sammy Morris assume a bigger role than what's widely expected.
