Browns 2005 season review by position (1 Viewer)

The AFC has too many quality teams for a 9-7 team to make the playoffs.  Bentley signing was great, overpaid for Shaffer, and I wouldn't be counting on Winslow if I was a Browns fan.  Edwards is gonna be a good one, but I think they must start Frye this yr and see if he is the franchise qb for yrs to come.  I'm not sold on Crennel has a HC, but I think Savage is a pretty good.  Also don't underestimate the signing of JJ.
Overpaid for Shaffer? NFL average of the top five salaries at OT = $6.98 million. Browns signed Shaffer for around $5 million per year. How is that overpaying?
Are you claiming that Shaffer is a top 5 OT?
If he was a top 5 OT, wouldn't he have signed a contract around the average?

I don't know much about Dinkens.
Fassel brought Dinkens in off the street in Baltimore when Heap was hurt and lost a ton of time in '04He made the squad on Special Teams play, and made a few grabs along the way in 2-TE sets

I would think he'd serve the same role for you guys

I wouldn't be counting on Winslow if I was a Browns fan.
Why, aside from what has happened in the past? If he's healthy, why wouldn't he contribute?
-- Winslow Undergoes More Surgery --Fri Mar 24, 2006 --from FFMastermind.com

The Plain Dealer reports Browns TE Kellen Winslow Jr. underwent arthroscopic surgery on his reconstructed right knee in January, Browns GM Phil Savage confirmed Thursday. "It was just a very minor procedure to clear out some scar tissue from his previous surgery," Savage said. "The doctors tell me he's doing great and he's at the facility [in Berea] working out every day." Winslow initially underwent surgery on the knee on June 14 to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament suffered in his May 1 motorcycle accident. But it hasn't been an easy road back for the former sixth overall pick in the 2004 draft. In August, he revealed he was recovering from a staph infection in the right knee that caused him to lose almost 30 pounds. He later said the infection penetrated the joint, which can be career-threatening. In an interview in November, he said he was 75 percent back. He also said then that he knows people doubt whether he'll make it back. "Just keep on doubting me, because I love that," he said.

dilfer is a ######. frye is the bomb of the browns.

dawson needs to take his blue ### to the squeelers.

I am excited to see what they can do too but if Edwards does not come back as fast as they expect then this year will get them ready for next.

They are in one of the toughest divisions right now and they will have a hard time making the playoffs.

Frye is a great prospect and they have a great young core to get them to the next level.

How has William Green looked in the offseason? Does he look like he could carry the load for them if Droughns got stabbed by his wife or something?

The way I see it right now, Droughns will play 1st down, 2nd down, 3rd and short and red zone. Harrison will play the remainder of 3rd downs. If Droughns gets hurt expect Green and Harrison to split carries.
