Browns - gonna be in trouble for letting McCoy play w/concussion (1 Viewer)

The only thing I want to add to this thread is that NFL network was doing alot of close ups of his face under center. It was clear to me, 1000 miles away, the guy was concussed. Maybe its my martial arts background, but he clearly looked dazed and confused.
I thought the same thing. I think it was right before the snap where he threw the pick to Gay -- or within a play or two of that -- they zoomed in on him walking up to the line and his eyes were moving left and right and he didn't seem to be focusing on anything at all. You could almost see the canaries flying around his head.

If the NFL is really serious about banning head to head type of plays, they need to start suspend players for doing it, not just fining them some ridiculously low amount of money (from an NFL millionaire's perspective).

that's crazy talkhelmet to helmet is going to happenyou can't expect the tackler to tackle perfect form every time

No, not every time... But the majority of the league defenders tackle without helmet to helmet... Harrison is not one of them. He's a repeat offender. He has clear disregard for the rules. That, or he has no control.Either way, repeat offenders should be suspended.

Colt McCoy's father said Friday that the Browns QB doesn't remember anything after James Harrison's helmet-to-helmet hit Thursday night, and never should have been allowed back in the game."I talked to Colt this morning and he said, 'Dad, I don't know what happened, but I know I lost the game. I know I let the team (down). What happened? ... He was basically out (cold) after the hit ... He was nauseated and he didn't know who he was. From what I could see, they didn't test him for a concussion on the sidelines." As we suspected, the Browns are going to land in hot water for this one. McCoy should never have been rushed back into the game. Why the hell can't I like a team that wins, and doesn't pull dumb move after dumb move....This one is gonna cost them
As a Browns fan, this pisses me off big time. They could have checked and double checked Colt out; Seneca looked good on the couple of snaps and the one throw he made. Players and agents keep this stuff on their mental rolodexes when considering to sign somewhere. Eff Pat Shurmur. Right in the face. And Holmgren right in the stache. Even if staches are making a comeback.
yes, yes and yes.I like the dumbest organization is football... not a few yrs back I thought we had things in order.... edwards, winslow, anderson... the start of a revolution.Nope. We proved we suck even hardercome to think of it... Colt threw 2 picks (both called back) and took 1 or 2 sacks after being concussed... jesus.
That throw in the end zone was really bad. Been there, man. I really have seen worse. Truth is even a healthy McCoy is not teh answer and the Browns aren't that far away from improving (like a few other franchises) they need to take a shot at a legit free agent QB or go QB in the first round and keep doing that until they hit it. And they should have drafted Adrian Peterson.

Whenever I begin to forget about Peterson, someone always brings it up hahaha....Anyways, I'm being dead serious here. The Browns NEED to get Griffin this draft. I don't care how... They just do. IMO, Griffin will be this draft's superhero. Forget Luck, Griffin needs to be a Brown. If we fail on this, we will be same old same old. We need a dynamic back who can make something out of nothing... Griffin is that man.

It's pretty egotistical that these guys think that this omniscient being who created and lords over the UNIVERSE is aiding them to the detriment of the other team on the field. Like really? I'm guessing such a god would have better things to do than watch and aid the cleveland browns.
you are aware it's possible to pray for things other than victory, right?Do you have this same level of vitriol for folks who say a prayer before meals? For folks who say grace, do you assume they are praying that their meal will taste the best?
No. As that is private and silent. Not taking up half of the time that the reporter has to ask them questions about the game. I much prefer that over being prosthelytized to by an athlete who is being asked about his performance and other things that I do care. Since the devote a limited amount of time to those questions I'd rather hear the answer. With sponsor advertising at least they are subsidizing the game, not wasting airtime and implicitly damning people whose views differ to a fiery burning eternity..

Not condoning what the Browns did but this guy pulled up in the BCS game a couple years ago over not much...did anyone see what Big Ben suffered thru last night?

Colt was getting medical attention it seemed for his hands, maybe the Browns didn't know he was knocked out. :yeahright:
you are saying Mccoy pulled himself in the title game over "not much". why would you stretch to try and rip Mccoy so much? you are ill-informed on what happened in the title game[link]

You saw what Big Ben wen thru on Thursday, McCoy's injury was not even close and his daddy ran down to make sure he didn't continue...I don't think of mcCoy as a real tough guy. if you feel different so be it. his tears after the game was over don't mean anything other than guilt as far as I'm concerned.

Please stop with this nonsensical mythologizing of Ben and what he "went through". He suffered a high ankle sprain -- a soft tissue injury -- nothing more. McCoy suffered a concussion, also known as a TBI (for Traumatic Brain Injury). Colt couldn't remember the game, for Christ's sake; and you continue to pretend like the prima donna's injury was actually more severe. With all the issues the NFL is having with concussions and post-TBI related symptoms of players past and present you would hope someone who follows the game as closely as you do would recognize the severity and impact of each injury.

McCoy just got his bell rung, it takes a couple of minutes to clear the cobwebs out and get your head straight. How can you say he played like crap after being hit when he was playing like crap before he got hit?

I assume you're talking about Colt's shoulder being injured in the college title game, not his concussion on Thursday.Tough guy or not, who cares. A pinched nerve in a QB's throwing shoulder makes them a useless QB. You can still throw the ball if your ankle hurts. I don't think anyone needs proof that Big Ben is a "tougher" QB, but this is a useless comparison either way.

Live in Seattle. Hawks fan. Played ball. Have had a concussion and a high ankle sprain. The two aren't comparable in terms of severity. Look at it this way, one of these injuries could affect a player and prevent him from playing a year down the line. One is an injury to soft tissue, one to a soft organ (that happens to control actions of the entire body as part of the central nervous system).

You may be fishing here, but if not you sound ignorant in the extreme.

I feel bad that Ben suffered the worst pain he has ever felt. So what. As far as I can tell he remained conscious the entire time. And he has a reputation for playing these things up. People like MoP lap it up.

Some seriously ignorant comments in this thread, by people who really should know better. This is serious stuff... http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/otl/news/story?id=5818575

The only good to come out of this is that team medical staffs will no longer be empowered to make these decisions in the future. Just heard th NFL is going to have an independent neurologist at each game. About time.

Comparing an ankle sprain to a concussion?

C'mon man.

I could go into immense detail (having dealt with both, many times), but don't feel the need to. Common sense is argument enough.

If the NFL was really serious about player safety then they would go with one of the three helmet designs that are better than the current ones. You know why they don't? Comes down to money that the helmet supplier Riddell supplies the NFL. NFL football is all about Big Business and the almighty dollar. These billionaires do not care about the players, but the league tries to be politically correct when addressing player safety issues. Oh and they also get back some of the players' salaries when fines are levied. NFL is hypocritical.

what a horrible title for a thread. but the spliff down and edit that title.
Aren't you the last person on the internet that hasn't figured out how to format a news article and paste it to a message board without making a giant mess of it?

My theory:

Holmgren sincerely thought McCoy would be a starter caliber player. As the season went on, he realized it isn't happening. He called James Harrison and asked him to take McCoy out. When the hit was done, he made sure McCoy didn't get the proper medical attention that he needed, in hopes that McCoy would get even more injured and finished as a QB, so the Mastermind Holmgren can move on and draft a real QB in 2012. I think the plan was pretty good. He just underestimated Dad McCoy. I wouldn't be surprised if Dad McCoy gets suicided sometime before the season is over.
