BROWNS @ LIONS - Game Thread (1 Viewer)

I doubt we see J Best the rest of the game. So if this is the story of his night, those of us with drafts this next week are screwed.

I have the #2 spot tommorow and hope to get him at 3.2

I hope to get AP, Calvin, Best

Pretty happy that I pushed for our draft to be this weekend BEFORE the games. Best looks like a the real deal THIS year for redraft, managed to snag him at the end of the 4th after getting ADP, Fitz, and Wayne.

If he makes it to the 4th round of your draft, you're an idiot for not taking him.

Don't understand why they would pull him, as I thought these 3rd preseason were often used to mimic regular season game situations, and I can't imagine them pulling him for much time at all if they really wanted to win a game. I think they will need to bring him back into this game if they have any hope of winning.

Schwartz doesn't care about winning this game. Defensive guy, likes quick moving, low scoring games in the preseason if he had a choice. I'm guessing he loves that Cleveland is showing this look on offense though.

Suh and Best- what a start to a draft. Aren't you Lion fans glad you don't have Matt Millen anymore? You know he would have missed out on both those guys in favor of two wideouts.

Unlike previous head coaches with the Detroit Lions, Jim Schwartz isn't going to use the third game of preseason as a dress rehearsal for his players.

Instead, he's still in training camp mode.

The players will play longer, with most starters expected to go into the third quarter, but the Lions will not treat the Cleveland Browns any differently than their first two preseason opponents.

"We're not really game planning,'' Schwartz said. "We won't have anything new for this game, but we are doing kind of a dry run of taking the players through a week of preparation. It won't be a game plan, per se. We won't have new plays up specifically for that team.''

Got him last night at 3.10. Lots of funny looks after my pick. My league now knows they were drafting with a Hawk last night.

Replace Suh and Best with K. Jones and R. Williams and we have the same exact quote we were seeing on this board in 2004 (minus the Millen part). Hopefully these two will turn out better than them.

Even Millen would have gotten Suh right. The Lions caught some grief for moving up and getting Best, but it may have been the best move in the draft.

I drafted Best in my first 2 drafts earlier this week. Both 12 team leagues.

Got him at 4.11 & then 5.2. He'll be my FLEX that I anticipate will finish with low end RB1 or solid RB2 numbers. The kid just needs to stay healthy.

And play every game against the Browns?

Best will be a top 10 back even when he is not playing against the Browns.

I've never reeeallly seen much of Mathew Stafford, but I am overwhelmingly impressed with how poised he looks standing in the pocket, given he may not be facing the best DL, but still. :goodposting:

The Lions offense will be in the top 10. Huge upgrade to their running game and that along with a better offensive line will make Stafford a much better QB in his second year. Will be a fun team to watch again. Haven't been excited to watch the Lions play since #20 retired.

I had been planning to pick Best at 4.04, now I may need to look at picking him 3.09....if he is even there at that point.

A month ago I had my initial draft for a Dynasty IDP League and Best wasn't taken until ROUND 15! Worst part, I decided to see if he would slip to the 16th round so I could pick up Nick Barnett..............

wow. he is a rookie right? with an injury history? and a big boy schedule over the first 9? i give him week 3 before the injury. The finley best uno deuce comment was pretty funny though.

Was at the game and had the postgame on in the car on the way home. Just a few quick thoughts:

- Best was, of course, impressive once again. Even more impressive than the long run was the move he made on the short pass. He totally stopped on a dime and made the defender miss.

- Best didn't play longer because Schawrtz said his "legs were a little tight" and that he's not injured, but there was no need to push things.

- Aaron Brown and even Jerome Felton ran the ball well. Felton has potential as a short yardage specialist.

- Stafford had another impressive outing. Made a nice play on the run, hitting Burleson in stride down the sideline, but called back due to a penalty. Looks really mature out there.

- Really temper expectations for Jerome Harrison, and that's even without Hardesty seeing the field yet. Hillis saw the field a lot, and on most of the red zone snaps.

- Massaquoi was very quiet tonight and didn't seem to be on the field as much as Robiskie. The Browns found ways to get Josh Cribbs involved.

- The Browns offense is going to be a lot of short stuff and screens. Delhomme looked OK running it. The first time the Browns got into the red zone, Seneca Wallace came in for a few plays.

- James Davis and Chris Jennings pretty much alternated after Harrison/Hillis left the game.

- The Lions were able to get pressure again, but the corners did not play very well and gave up a lot of catches they shouldn't have.

- Levy did indeed leave very early after aggravating his groin injury.

Just saw the Best highlight, nice run but the comparisons to Barry are going too far. Also, I think Barry makes it to the end zone on that run, with more amazing cuts than Best did.

I was the one who made the comparison to Sanders, and I only did it in terms of that stop and start he made on the catch. Overall I would be extremely hesitant to compare ANYONE to Barry Sanders, who remains the greatest running back I have ever seen.
