BTTF 2017 : Scoobus wins World Series (3 Viewers)

No DH, pitchers bat.

You'll only have a 25-man roster at a time, plus there's a weird AAA mechanism where you can stash a few guys that you can exchange in and out during the season. The long draft is mostly because we don't allow in-season pickups.
where do all the excess drafted players reside? If there are only a few allowed AAA, that leaves a huge number of draftees inaccessible? How does this help in no pickups?

Many players don't make the minimum 50 AB or 25ip to be included in the sim. Pitchers blow out their elbows, top prospects spend the whole year at AAA, pitchers are so bad you don't want them, etc.

The vast majority of drafted players that aren't used will be ones that no one wants to use.  Injuries, guys not making the WIS minimum AB/IP limits, flat out suckiness, etc.

ETA:  Also, if a team is blessed with depth in any one area, that depth is most often used for trades to strengthen other areas.

Most of junk we draft in the late rounds is unusable.   If you have an average draft, you should be able to fill a 25 man roster with sufficient PAs and IPs.  The AAA slots are useful if you're lucky enough to draft guys that WIS sees fit to include in AAA eligible list.

Since his last pick for reference...

My 14th rounder last year. I am historically early on players. Could work out OK for you. Of course, he was like the worst player in history last year.
I looked before I picked to see where he was taken last year to see if I was getting any value. Nope.

Can I swap players I drafted from the unused list to the roster in-season?

Nope. We debated supplemental drafts or some sort of free agency/waiver wire, maybe just a one time thing, but it always presented more issues than it solved.

Fyi, my 48 and 49 rounders provided me with actual value as relievers spot starters last year.

Filling out a full 25-man WhatIfSports roster is kind of the end game of this exercise. Having drafted usable real-life MLB players for WhatIfSports' AAA is simply gravy ... you'll probably have a handful, but there's an outside chance you may not have any at all.

The excess drafted players don't exactly reside anywhere ... but they are tracked throughout the season on our FanTrax squads. Yes, all 50 of our draft picks are entered into a FanTrax league, and we each get a FanTrax squad to follow. Every player you draft that plays in MLB during the 2017 contributes to the success or failure your FanTrax team. Having a bunch of guys that never make it to the Show hurts your FanTrax squad, too, because you could end up only getting MLB stats from, say, 30 guys where some other teams are getting stats from 40 players.

The no-pickups thing: in this draft, after the sure MLB guys and the pretty-sure prospects are taken, we start drafting educated-guess lottery tickets. Lots of them. Hit on two or three of those lottery tickets and it's the equivalent of making a few shrewd waiver-wire transactions in a traditional fantasy league. It's much more a matter of luck for us, of course, because we're picking everyone in advance of the regular season.

But the FanTrax team doesn't matter (except for setting divisions), it's just a handy way to track your team during the season and give a ballpark estimate of how it's doing.

I find it pretty fun to follow, myself. Easy, too ... basically a "best ball" fantasy league. Also a good excuse to keep of track of injured guys, AAA guys getting ready to come up (or demotions :kicksrock:  ), etc.

I'm sure Oso liked watching his FanTrax squad King Kong everyone last season :D
