BTTF 2018: MLB123746 (2 Viewers)

I’m happy with my pitching staf:

SP1 Madison Bumgarner 

SP2 Kyle Hendricks

SP3 Masahiro Tanaka

Top 3 should be solid as long as Tanaka’s elbow holds up. It’s held up for the last two years, so there’s hope. 

SP4 Zach Godley 

SP5 Josh Tomlin

SP6 Ivan Nova 

Godley’s numbers were solid all year long. He draws comparisons to Brandon Webb. Tom Lin pitched well furvthe Indians in a swingman rose. I’m hoping that they let him start exclusively. Nova had a good first half but dropped off in the second half. I’m hoping the Pirates can continue his growth and maybe carry it over all season.

Part of Bogie STEALS FIRST! strategy is to end up needing that extra set of PAs that come with being behind in the 9th inning. If h had too much pitching that's sacrifice bottom of the 9ths to get them extra bases.

BTTF:  where teams count on continued growth from 31 year old mediocrities like Ivan Nova.

Hoping getting out of Coors will be a boost for him. His career road ERA is 3.3ish, though his peripherals don’t show that much home/road difference. He’s got crazy good stuff though. He was sitting 97-98 last year with movement all over place (part of the control issue). 

 
Nice movement today. The last few days we have been doing that turn late in the evening. We are 5 hours ahead of schedule today.

 
I remember the first team I had in this. I was short innings, had to trade for a 6 era guy and all my decent pitchers were too tired by mid season having to throw so many innings.

the end-turn is bad enough, but to have it be every day at prime family time was grating.

Man, this guy. Every time I read his name I get bummed. I thought he was going to be my SOD last year in the 9th round and then... well, you've seen the numbers. I hope he sucks way less for you this year.

As a Rangers fan, I'm always envious of the Oakland pitching staff, I think it's just ingrained at this point that they are going to hit on someone who kicks our a$$.

His change-up is a thing of beauty but it kind of defeats the purpose if you throw nothing but change-ups.

 
Here's my irrelevant team review:

SP Chris Archer R
SP Jon Gray R
SP Blake Snell L
SP Luiz Gohara L
SP Hyun-Jin Ryu L
SP Tyler Chatwood R

My main issue is outside of Archer, there's no track record of workhorse-type innings. Gray, Snell, and Gohara all have elite stuff but have yet to show it over a full season. Ryu's issue is always health. Hard to count on him for more than 120 innings but is solid when he does pitch. Injuries aside, Chatwood probably has as big a range of outcomes as anyone. It wouldn't surprise me if he ended up with 2/3 starter numbers, or if he flames out and gets moved to the bullpen by a team that is contending and can't afford to work through command issues.

2B Robinson Cano L
3B Kyle Seager L
1B Greg Bird L
CF Manuel Margot R
C  Alex Avila L

Reasonably happy here. Glad to have SS, 2B, CF, and C out of the way with players who all have potential to be productive bats or better. Might have reached on Bird but I've been a believer in the bat for years and if he's healthy (big if) he's going to hit a lot of balls out of Yankee Stadium. Avila going to Arizona should be a plus for him. He always gets his walks so BABIP is a big deal for him and that's a big, juicy home park.

The way Bryan Price has used him makes him more valuable in this format than a typical 5x5 league.  He works more innings and his slightly higher IP/G allows stretching him another 5-10 pitches.

3B R Anthony Rendon

SS L Brandon Crawford

Really strong on OBP and not terrible on power. I even have a guy who runs fast in Pham which is rare for me. Corner OF isn't a bad thing to not have filled at this point and I can probably do that by committee.

SP Tanner Roark
SP J.A. Happ
SP Jakob Junis

A decent mix of inning eaters and upside but I never feel good about my staff. A lot depends on Danny Salazar which is not an encouraging thing to type.
