BTTF 2018: MLB123746 (1 Viewer)

You know why they don't have phones in China? They have so many Wings and Wongs they're always winging the Wong number.
I feel liking this would make me racist.

But just laughing at it out loud in the coffee shop is human.

15.24 Wei-Yin Chen

16.01 Dansby Swanson
There's the correct Wei-Yin Chen pick -- Chen appears on the Googledoc (and front page of this thread) twice. Once at 15.24 for scoobus (correct) and again at 32.08 for me (incorrect, should be Despaigne).

That's some top notch sleuthing here, DougB.

Hows the job search goin?

Assuming the Monday free for all, we will wrap this up exactly one month / four weeks to the day after the formal start on Feb 5th.

Hows the job search goin?
Rough start. It's been so long since I've done this. I hadn't kept up with networking over the years ... reaching out to people now, but it's been 5+ years since a lot of them have heard from me.

Last time I was looking, social media was barely a thing (Myspace was about it, and that was fresh at the time). I just read a job-search advice piece that suggests that having no social media presence is a potential flag against a candidate. Didn't really know that the World of Work took Facebook seriously, aside from wanting to know if you have especially kooky stuff posted or something. I have LinkedIn going for a while, maybe that counts as 'social media'

It does.

If you don't have Facebook, set yourself up a private one with some smiling family photos for the HR searchers. It's just a box they check.

Thanks, RnR.

Facebook, for 90% of the people I know that are on it (mainly my wife, sisters-in-law, and their friends), is pretty much nothing but back-biting, "Vaguebooking", conspiracy theories, politically-extreme nuttery. A way to talk bad about the people in their lives without getting busted for it (though it often comes back on them anyhow). Some recipes, cat videos, Etsy, and Pinterest links thrown in.

Given that ... how the eff did Facebook usage ever become a sine non qua to employers? So bizarre.

They want to be able to make sure you're not one of the people you mentioned above.  :D

You'll get in the groove - and yeah, a lots changed in that last 5-10 years for sure

48.20 Pat Venditte, RP, Dodgers

Switch pitcher!

49.5 Brett Graves, SP, Marlins

Rule 5 pick. All that's standing in the way of him being in the Miami rotation is that he's never pitched above AA and he sucked there last year.

I so wish that some of these scrubs google their own names and stumble upon this thread.  Might be the pinnacle of their professional careers
