I think people romanticize their own personal pasts.... 2015 is better in too many ways to count... it's just perceived as being worse.

There are worse things about the present.. but there are way more things that are way better.

Korea was over in '53. It looks like the big Vietnam lotteries weren't until 1969 as pointed out and and those born in 1937 would be exempt.

However, there were still 152,000 kids drafted in 1955

Vietnam draft numbers didn't rise until 1965 when 230,000 kids were drafted. I don't think a 28-year-old would have been subject to it.
