Buckhalter Scoring Change (1 Viewer)

On CBS I haven't made the change yet because when I navigate to Adjust Scoring:

Do not use Adjust Scoring to correct a scoring system problem or a missing statistic. When the missing statistic or problem is corrected your score would then become incorrect.

I fully expect them to make the correction tonight sometime.
I hope you are right as this would be a huge win and put me back in the plaoff hunt!!

The fact that sportsline refuses to make a uniform change in this case makes this issue a point of contention in my league. We run our league through sportsline and have never changed a rule mid season. We normally revisit oversights in league scoring in the offseason and accept faults in our scoring untill they come to light. In this case, the NFL ruled late, past the CBS Tuesday night deadline. We don't have a stated cut off toaccept stat corrections so, given our league history it seems we should go with the what the site has ruled and address in the offseason. At the same time the scoring has been changed--right or wrong--and it seems wrong to penalize the McNabb owner for a late correction. This is a mess... :wall:

Is everyone giving the McNabb owner the points?? or is this on a case by case basis??

Terrible way to lose--or win...is a tie a solution?
This is a brutal situation for commissioners if your league does not have a detailed policy on scoring change procedures and a specified time at which game scores become final. Even then, there's the potential for arguments and frustration. My initial thought upon seeing the news of this stat change was that there was no question I would change the scores in the two leagues I run. After all, the most important thing is to get the scores right, etc. However, after much thought I don't think this situation is quite as simple as many posters (especially at other FF boards) are presenting it to be.

One of my leagues dates back to the late 1980s and there has never been a scoring change made to the official source except for misprints in newspaper box scores when they were the only option back 10+ years ago. Certainly a large reason for changes never occurring is that the information on stat changes has only been readily available for the past few years.

I'm certainly not going to say that a change should be resisted "because we've never done it that way" blah blah blah. If you can get it right, you get it right. However, in the context of this season, I believe that I am being inconsistent in selectively applying only this stat change when there are literally hundreds that have occurred so far this season. LINK

Most are very small changes that very likely affected the outcome of very few FF games. And I would guess that this McNabb/Buckhalter/Brown change would easily change more outcomes than all of the other changes combined. Still... did everyone rush out and correct Antonio Bryant's totals for Week 8? He lost 14 receiving yards and one reception, which means a 2.4 point deduction in most PPR leagues. I'll admit I didn't change the results in my league. How about Ben Watson losing a catch and 12 yards in Week 3? I didn't change that either, and that one was published on Monday, not Wednesday like this one.

As a commissioner, I strive hard for accuracy and integrity, desiring to create a level playing field (i.e., promote fairness in all aspects) and be consistent in my decisions. This situation is forcing me to compromise in at least one of these areas. I find I'm stuck between choosing to knowingly ignoring a correction that has been made (not accurate and not fair) or intentionally being inconsistent in applying a statistical change in this case when I have ignored others and been ignorant of dozens of others (arguably not fair due to being clearly inconsistent). The only certainly I have is that next year's rules will very clearly state a procedure for score changes and a specific closing time at which a given week's game scores are locked.

:goodposting: Thanks for the Link -- I didn't realize how many stat corrections had occured this year. If we ignored them all to this point, very tough to apply just this one.

That is why we require owners to notify the Commish (me) of ant scoring inaccuracies by 1hour before kickoff of the following weeks games. I can't keep up with al the scoring changes myself.
