BUF pass defense not as bad as you would think? (1 Viewer)

couldn't believe it either when I looked up the stats. But Only Denarious Moore's 24.1 and Wes Welkers 35.1 points were standouts (and yes they were both huge). It does grow to three if you count Gronkowskis 22.9 pt effort. But absent that every other WR/TE has accumulated less than 30 yards against the Bills. Looking at the huge scores/#'s that the Bills have been letting up, I generally assumed that those #'s would be higher. Now they did play the chiefs week one who suck the sweat of a dead mans balls (but still put up better #'s vs SD last week), but is the Bills Pass defense decent, but just unable to cover the top guy? Or is this more a case where Campbell has leaned on Moore, in the same way that Brady has leaned on Gronk/welker. Bills homers feel free to chime in, as a Green/Simpson/Caldwell owner I am a lil more hesitant about playing them than I was 20 minutes ago, where I just assumed the bills pass d must be atrocious.

They also have let up a lot on the ground, so it may just be teams are running so well they don't need to pass that much?

TIA

The pass defense is pretty bad. McKelvin is really struggling to cover guys tightly. Although speed is their biggest Achilles. They do better against WRs without a lot of speed.

And FWIW, the Bills have actually done pretty well against the run. They held McFadden to like 2.8 YPC or something absurd. Charles did better, but it was almost all on one drive where he had two big runs at the end of the first half when the Bills were basically playing a prevent defense.

Most of their success if you can call it against the Pats had a lot to do with the fact that not even half way through the game they switched to a 7-8 DB defensive scheme and just tried to cover the entire field with DBs, Brady still picked them apart but whoever was covering Branch all game shut him down, pretty much everyone else got huge separation.

They've also been without Terrence McGee, their best corner, since the first game and he is out again this week. As long as McGee is out, opponents will keep putting up numbers, especially the way the Bills offense is putting points on the board.

not so much that the secondary is bad, it's the total lack of any kind of pass rush that really hurts them

3 games and 3 guys with huge numbers.
so 2 WR's in three games did anything. Was wondering what if any implication this had for the wr2/wr3's facing th Bills.Interesting to hear that they ran 7-8 DBs vs the pats. Prolly why gronk did so well. Tough to imagine any combo of dbs covering him.

:whoosh:This thread is NOT about celebrating the buffalo D. More about trying to figure out why the #'s are so top heavy and bottom light and possibly what type of WR is more likely to go off this weekend as both Simpson and Green are viable starters Top 50WRs this weekend. But thanks for offering nothing but condescension to yet another thread. At least you are consistent.

Hold up blowhard. First off, I contribute plenty in the SP - so there is no need for the attitude or the snarky response. You answered your own question - one that is fairly obvious. Teams kept doing what worked until the Bills could stop it (or didn't). The problem with Cincy WRs is that you don't know which one the QB trusts yet. Could be Green or Simpson, imho.Secondly - it was a free bump to your thread, so turn the tool factor way down - and if you like helpful responses swim nice in the pool. :banned:

This is much of the case. The team thought Shawne Merriman, who had an excellent preseason, would come in and get some of the juice back from being lights out, but it hasn't been the case. He did start to cause some trouble for Brady last week, but him, along with Chris Kelsay and Alex Carrington, haven't been much of a factor on the rush, giving opposing QB's enough time to find their options. All this considered, the secondary is still weak without McGee, and as a previous poster said, speed has been their main issue and achilles heel.

Totally right. I was off base here. Double G actually does post a bunch of good stuff usually.  But I had just been in 2-3 threads in a row where you mocked and added nothing.   I just unnecessarily snapped. My bad.  It's not like I haven't done that ever anyway ;)   :banned:
